A: No current tripod should have legs that freely move; not only is it awkward, it can be dangerous to your fingers. This tripod has legs that stay in place and you need to move them. Twist or clamp; that is the external question. In the end it is a matter of personal preference. I find that pros tend to go with the twist. Today's twist locks are very quick, usually 1/2 turn or so and are not significantly slower than clamp locks. I also find that clamp levers get caught on every strap within a 10' radius.
