The black Monologue from Korg is a monophonic all-analog synthesizer with a fully programmable single-voice architecture and 100 fully editable presets, well suited for musicians and analog enthusiasts. Building upon the success of the Minilogue Polyphonic Synthesizer, Korg reworked the knob-per-function layout, voicing, and sound-sculpting abilities to create a distinctive-sounding instrument for all types of musicians and sound designers.

The synth offers two VCOs and a redesigned filter with a powerful low-end punch. A drive circuit has been added to apply aggressive overtones and distortion to the sound for huge bass sounds and sharp lead tones. The LFO rate can be adjusted into an unprecedentedly ultra-high-speed range to generate crazy space-shattering sounds, or it can be switched to one-shot mode to act as an additional envelope. The OLED display offers parameter information and features a real-time oscilloscope, providing eye-catching visual feedback on the sound being played. A 16-step sequencer not only records notes, but motion sequences of knob movements as well.

The Monologue has a set of factory tuning as well as 12 user slots for creating custom microtunings. Aphex Twin has come onboard as an advisor for the implementation and also to offer scales, sounds, and sequences as part of the factory presets. The enclosure is crafted from a curved aluminum panel, populated by chassis-mounted metal shaft pots with rubber-coated knobs, and a solid pyinkado-wood rear panel. Programming is a breeze with a single-knob-per-function architecture that satisfies seasoned synth professionals and beginner programmers. The Monologue ships with six AA batteries and can be powered by an optional 9 VDC power supply.

[Analog] The Korg Minilogue is a SUPER fun & intuitive analog synth for everyone from beginners to seasoned synthesits. I've been programming synths for 20 years and this was just as fun as the first synth I ever used. Its analog sound is wonderful and thick. Almost everything has a knob or switch for control and, for the patches I was making, I never went into the menus for further editing beyond naming patches and setting sequencer settings. The shape control of the oscillators gives a lot of variation to your standard waveforms and the sync/ring-mod, cross modulation, & pitch envelope of oscillator two really open up the sonic possibilities. I very much enjoy the dedicated switch for velocity modulation of the filter cutoff and I like that there are only two modulation depths beyond none. My favorite feature of the Minilogue is the envelope modulation of either the rate or the intensity of the LFO. This really gives a sense of motion to what is already a sense of motion from the LFO. My only complaint is that the LFO doesn't go fast enough for analog-FM style tones. It's not nearly as fast as the LFO on the Monologue but that's more of an observation that a full drawback. I really enjoyed the different voice modes of this synth, really finding mono, which introduces a variable level sub, and chord, which creates various fixed chords, to be the most useful beyond the standard poly mode. This is by far the best poly synth I have ever found for someone who is interested in learning analog synthesis. The knobs and switches along with the actual layout of them makes programming make sense and a joy to use. The Minilogue does have mini-keys but the mini keys Korg has been using for their new synths are really great. Much better than the microKORG. With the Minilogue, Korg really show us that there will always be room for one more analog synth.

[5.1 lb] The Korg Monologue is a fantastic and fun two oscillator fully analog monosynth with selectable ring mod or sync on oscillator two. It lends itself naturally to bass tones and produces them well and with ease. Programming is fluid as almost every parameter has a knob or switch with an intuitive menu accessible through the sequencer buttons for things like tempo syncing the LFO, keytracking the filter, setting velocity control of filter and/or amplitude, assigning the bender, and naming patches. The sequencer is fun to use as well. I never recorded in real time, opting instead to step sequence, which acts as you would expect if you have used other step sequencers. I think it's a little odd that Korg opted for a 100 patch limit instead of a standard 128 but that's more of an observation than a complaint. I did not find many uses for the drive as I found it too aggressive & harsh in most applications but I don't take off pints for this. The LFO is very expressive and can even go up to audio rate in the fast setting, allowing for analog-FM style tones when assigned to any destination. Although this synth does not have full sized keys, they are not as small as say a microKORG or many controllers. They feel pretty natural to play and I wasn't hitting extra keys while using them. I would say this is an excellent first synth for anyone attempting to learn synthesis. However, even an experienced user as myself can find uses for the sound of this synth with its pure analog signal path and excellent sounding filter.

[1] I'm an electronic musician and I LOVE my Monologue! It screams, it bellows, it whispers, it grunts, it can be pretty, it can be quite ugly...well, you get the picture. There's nothing on the market quite like it! Value For Money - off the charts! Build Quality - solid Did I mention that there's nothing on the market quite like it?

[3.8 lb / 1.7 kg] The minilogue is a full fledged 4 voice polyphonic analog synth with 1 LFO. You can save patches (200) and the oscilloscope is helpful for patch building. When recalling patches, there are several options for the knobs too-- the default is to 'jump' to the value that the knob is turned to, but there is also a 'catch' option that won't change the parameter until you move the knob to where it was in the saved patch-- this is very helpful for live performance to ensure smooth parameter transitions! I have been using in both studio and live setting. Overall a surprisingly well made and feature-full analog synth... hard to believe korg packed everything in at such a low pricepoint for analog polys!

[5.1 lb] The Minilogue is a really fun to use synthesizer, with an immediate interface to tweak and a great sound, while also affordable. At first I wasn't so sure about its sound, but had a test drive and it really impressed me (all 3 times in consecutive days). Even as an affordable synth, it has its own thing and can sound amazing. Been using it mostly for pad and keyboard(ish) bell sounds, and it is great at it. Throw in an external delay pedal and you're good for days. Sound-wise, it doesn't have the aggressively low end you find on other synths, but it is very good at mid-range. I love the filter tonality, and while not the most versatile beast, it is certainly capable of doing some impressive things. The hardware is also very well made for what you pay... good metallic plate on top, mini-keys that are way better than traditional ones, all necessary tools for customizing simple and complex sounds (although limited in terms of modulations), nice knobs and switches, ideal size (love this small footprint). There's a single thing I don't enjoy much: the pitch bend lever. I'd rather have a single modulation one... this aside, an amazing little synth.

[3.8 lb / 1.7 kg] Seriously amazing synthesizer with a lot to offer. Can run the gamut from mild to wild. Sequencer/motion sequencing, microtuning, waveshaping, audio rate lfo. A combo that you wont find elsewhere. Im drowing in gear and am very glad i picked it up on the first day i found it in stock
