The B+W XS-Pro MRC-Nano 810 ND Filter 35.5mm 10-Stopis a neutral density filter with a 1000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from SCHOTT glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and preventing jamming. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting when this filter is in use, the filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How thick is this filter?

A: I don't have this filter. Not sure why I was asked by BH to answer the question. Sorry.

Q: 2. Does it come with a lens cap?

A: No it does not. I purchased an 82mm one separately.

Q: 3. I have a 32-64mm Fuji GFX zoom lens on a GFX 50R. Can this filter be used at full wide angle without vignetting with this lens? Thanks.

A: The B+W 77mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter will not vignette the Fuji 32-64mm lens. This is because the front of the filter is 82mm. By having a larger front than the mount, it reduces the risk of vignetting on wide angle lenses.

Q: 4. I have a Batis 25mm. will this filter fit the lens, and also, will the original lens cap fit on top of this filter?

A: Yes, this will fit the 67mm filter threads of the ZEISS Batis 25mm f/2 Lens for Sony E. However, since this filter is made wider so as to avoid vignetting, you will need a 72mm lens cap. Here is a quality one to match your lens. B+W 72mm Pro Snap-On Lens Cap MFR #65-1065134 • BH #BWLC72

Q: 5. Can I use this on my Nikon wide-angle lens 10-24mm without vignette?

A: Most likely, no. The rim on this filter being the variable midel, is much wider than a standard ND would be. You definitely need to find a fixed stop ND for a wide angle. Even with that, you may still have slight vignetting at the 10mm end.

Q: 6. will this filter vignette with the Canon EF 16-35mm F4L lens?

A: I'm a Nikon shooter, so my answer is in that context. I no longer have my Nikkor 17-35, so the best other lens I could test it on is my Nikkor 12-24, which is a DX lens (also a 77mm diameter). Yours, however, is an FX lens, so I don't know how that may affect the comparison. I tested it on the D800, in full format mode. I noticed the beginning of vignetting when the focal length was 19mm. I did it a few times, and that was consistent. So, if this is in any way accurate, you can probably expect to lose a few mm of focal length at the3 wide end when you use this filter. I don't know if this filter is made in a thinner version for wide angle use. Hope this helped.

Q: 7. Does this filter come with an 82 mm front cap?

A: Received only the filter without cap

Q: 8. Has anyone used this filter with the DJI X5 camera? If so, how is the color fidelity? Is there any specific color cast? Thank you.

A: B+W make very high quality filters. This will give you a great performance when used on lens with the X5.

Q: 9. Can anyone explain the dot markings to stops on this filter?

A: I had this same question and decided to run some tests (using my Nikon D810). I did this inside with the lighting (more or less) constant. I ran three sets of tests: 1) in manual mode with auto ISO, I noted the ISO without the filter and with the filter positioned at each of the ten different dot makings; 2) In manual mode (and constant ISO) I set the aperture to zero out the meter without the filter and at each of the dot markings; and 3) In aperture priority mode, I noted the shutter speed without the filter and at each of the dot markings. The results varied somewhat depending on the test. Reported below is the average of the three methods. The first dot corresponded to 1.0 stops, second dot to 1.1 stops, third dot to 1.4 stops, fourth dot to 1.8 stops, fifth dot to 2.2 stops, sixth dot to 2.5 stops, seventh dot to 2.8 stops, eighth dot to 3.2 stops, ninth dot to 3.7 stops, and tenth dot to 4.1 stops. So, as others have said, the dots are just a guide.

Q: 10. Hi,I was wondering 2 things about this filter:* does it have hard stops ?* what is the size of the front filter ? is it 62mm ? thanks

A: This B+W 62mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC nano Filter has hard stops from +1 to +5 stops. The front thread size on this filter is 67mm; in order to avoid vignetting, the front filter thread is oversized.

[Solid ND] Long-time user of B+W filters. Worth every penny because they’re optically excellent! (Doesn’t make sense to put cheap glass over a thousand-dollar lens.) And I prefer the brass threads over the aluminum construction of other brands, and often more-expensive brands. I still have every B+W filter I ever bought, going back years! So I see this as a lifetime investment.

I bought this filter for waterfall effects with my EOS R5, and wasn’t sure which density to get. Fortunately, this one, (a number 6), was perfect for that. (Lucky guess.)

I have a B+W variable density filter that I’ve owned for years. It works perfectly on my DSLRs, so why buy a single-density filter, right? Because on my mirrorless cameras, which have electronic viewfinders, the EVFs seem to keep compensating the brightness, so it’s a little wonky to work with. (I’m sure there’s a workaround, but it’s just simpler for me to slap on a single-density filter.) Yes, I highly recommend this product!

[Multi Coated] I bought this filter used from BHPhoto.

I've used the old and cheaper uncoated B+W 110 ND 3.0 for years, and just accepted the magenta tint that came with it.

Now that I needed a 39mm filter thread, I decided to buy the MRC Nano Master 810 ND 3.0 and it's simply in another league.

No horrible magenta tint. The filter renders slightly cool, which is hardly noticeable. Also, tiny amount of magenta tint, but this is nitpicking.

I couldn't be happier. Absolutely worth it.

[Solid ND] I bought this B+W 3-stop ND filter for using when shooting outside on bright, sunny days. It allows me to use the faster apertures that I couldn't before. I shoot mostly ISO 100 B/W film using cameras that have 1/1000 as their fastest speed. Now I have access to shutter speed and aperture combinations that are more to my liking.

The quality of the B+W filters keeps me loyal to the brand. I also like the pouch that came with these filters. It takes up less space in my small bag than a hard box does.

[0.07 lb] The B+W 10-stop ND filter, is great for shooting video in the mid-day sun. I also use it for fine art long exposures photos and Timelapse short videos.

[Brass] I could be wrong, but I think B&W makes some of the finest filters. They are made in Germany and I believe you get what you pay for. Really can't see putting a $20 filter on a $2000+ lens.

[0.07 lb] I was looking for the best ND filter for my newly purchased Voightlander Nokton 50mm f1.0. I believe I found with this B&W. I can't see putting a $10 or $20 filter on a $1800.00 lens, just doesn't make sense.

[Glass] This 6 stop filter allows me to take the wide open aperture shots I want to take on bright, sunny beach days with the Canon RF 28-70 F2 lens. It does not cause any noticeable color shift or distortion at any focal range or any any aperture setting. I am very happy with this high-end filter.

[Multi Coated] This filter will live on my Canon RF 28-70 F2 lens when shooting on a sunny day! Without it I could not shoot wide open even at 1/8000th a second! No issues with color cast or stacking other filters. I have used it stacked with the 6 stop ND filter (same brand) and the
PolarPro 95mm QuartzLine CPL and am happy to report you can still install the lens hood with all 3 stacked!
