A: We used Hubbell Cat6 Ethernet modules. You could use Cat5e - but why limit yourself.

A: The Gateway should be at the top of the chain of devices. The switches can connect to the gateway. I also recommend a Cloud Key which will have the Unifi software built in to control devices.
