The column may be installed by removing the tripod's base plate, inserting the center column, and locking the column in place.

The primary feature of the GS5513XLS is its telescoping design which utilizes four G-Lock Ultra equipped sections to extend from a minimum height of 26.4" to a maximum height of 81.9". The column's base may also be adjusted vertically via a disc-lock equipped collar which may be secured anywhere within its 16.1" range of travel.

[16.1" (41 cm)] Typically Gitzo, this is a sturdy add-on. I bought this to work with the right angle bracket to easily get accurate horizontal camera movement. It is a bit awkward to attach to the Series 5 tripod. 5

[Yes] There's noting earth shattering about this Rapid center Column, but I love that it fits perfectly in my ancient series 5 stuff and that it utilizes carbon fiber to weigh considerably less than the metal equivalents. Functions as desired; light, stiff, and smooth. 5

[Aluminum] Do not usually use any tripods with a center column due to rigidity concerns, but this one coupled with the series 5 tripod is as solid as a rock. However, have not used it raised to its full extend. mainly used to tweak that final height adjustment a few inches. 5

[2.1 lb (0.9 kg)] I purchased this to go with my GT5543LS tripod and GH4383LR ball head. The build quality is exceptional. It is incredibly light. The Gitzo ball head mounts perfectly on it and there is a set screw to keep it in place. Truly a must have for Series 5 tripods. 5

[81.9" (208 cm)] I added this center column to my Gitzo series 5 tripod for added vertical camera adjustment, my only regret is not buying it with the tripod. I cheeped out and didn't buy it originally but ended up purchasing it later anyway. This geared column is as finely crafted as is the tripod, checks all boxes for fit, finish, and function.
