Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone received one of these with the black button for phantom / line / mic not there? Mine has a hole where you insert a pointy object to press to engage. Is this a QC issue or did shure remove to insure it’s not pressed by accident? Thx for your time in advance.

A: This unit has recessed switches for line/mic level and also for phantom power on/off. Perhaps the rubber covers for those switches are missing on your mixer.

Q: 2. My mics need 48v phantom power. I dont see that in the specs? Can it supply or not?

A: I use this mixer with an Audio Technica condensor mic. The mic's specs say it requires 48 volt phantom power, but it works fine on the 12 volts from this mixer. I even got an external 48 volt phantom power supply, thinking the mic would sound even better with the full 48V, but it sounds the same with 12 or 48 volts.

Q: 3. Wha is this mexer used for is used for live music?

A: It is being used in a church. For voice and music reinforcement.

Q: 4. Will this work with four Shure CVB-B/O Boundary Condenser Microphones?

A: The CVB/O operating voltage is 11V - 52V of phantom power. The SCM268 will give you 12V of phantom power so this will work with 4 - CVB/O microphones.

Q: 5. Will the mixer automatically set the microphone sensitivity? And does it have a limiter?

A: You will have to initially set the mic levels. Then it will open the mic when someone speaks. Yes it has a limiter. A Multi-pin Logic connection provides Mute, Gate and Override remote control options.

Q: 6. Is the bottom mount 1/4-20 ?

A: Yes, the SmartRig+ does provide a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting point on the bottom to attach to a tripod, mic stand, camera, or other device.

Q: 7. Does this include the power cord to the mixer?

A: The Shure SCM268 utilizes a 3 pin IEC power connection with power cord included.

Q: 8. Can this fit on a 4U standard rack mount carrying case. The width fits the standard measurement?

A: Yes it can.

Q: 9. can this convert mic level to line level?

A: There is a button in the back that will let you change line/mic.

Q: 10. Does this require a separate amplifier to power the microphone?

A: If you are using a condenser microphone, this mixer will provide 12V phantom power to power that microphone.

[Stereo Output ] We've used and trusted this equipment for years. Out of a dozen or so that we have had in uses on a daily basis for years, only two have failed. We are so pleased with the performance and reliability that we chose to replace the failed units with exactly the same models. They have lastest well past their warranty periods.

[50Hz to 20kHz ] We had a different mixer which had a large amount of issues with the ports and connections. This new mixer is fantastic and is working out amazing.

[48V DC] We use this mixer in a stack as part of a public address system for a meeting room. The ability to link multiple units and have either global or distinct output is a great feature to have. We use a combination of wired and wireless microphones so having the ability to enable phantom power, or line input is a huge advantage.

[13.5 lb] Since many live video shoots are mission critical, with no option to monitor the output with phones, you're going to have to monitor the audio at the camera to be sure you're not clipping, or deponents are not causing overload with their couphing or shouting. Those who use this mixer without monitoring are taking a chance their audio could be ruined, even though you have LED level indicators. You never want to rely on level meters alone for audio levels.

Also, this model doesn't have limiters to provide a safety zone for unexpected audio spikes, which are, again, a way to ruin a deposition video, because you're prohibited from sweetening in post, if that would rarely fix a distortion problem in the first place.

I'd recommend an automatic mixer for depo's to cut interference, provide source monitoring and allow engaging limiters for extra safety. EVen the used vintage Shure FP410's would be an excellent choice. Gang two together for 8 channel capability. Or, the new Shure FP810s also.

However, this is a nice solution for audio reinforcement use where real time monitoring is not an issue and where a baby Mackie would be an overkill. This would be great for a small corporate event, a personal house party, outdoor backyard event where you might want to incorporate both a mic and a line-level or consumer audio source in the mix. Send the signal to powered speakers and you're home free.

I'm still not convinced that the omission of the power switch is a benefit. I kinda miss it. Seems odd.

Rugged construction, like all Shure products, make this a durable purchase.

[None] I really Love this mixer. Simple, compact and reliable. I use this for legal video in tabletop mode and I could not  be happier with it. I realize  there are smaller un it now, but for me and my application the size is ideal. The sound is clear, controls are sensitive and has all the feature I need.
