Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What cable do I need to jam time code into my RED DMSC2 with this device?

A: All you need is a quality SDI BNC to BNC cable. Here is one suggestion. Canare 1' L-3CFW RG59 HD-SDI Coaxial Cable with Male BNCs (Black) BH #CA35HSVB01 • MFR #CA35HSVB01

Q: 2. Will this work with Convergent Design's Apollo to insert time code when ISO recording?

A: according to the manufacturers manual connect the JB-1 to LTC I/O port, as long as you are using that time-code port as the selected time-code source, the time-code that's generated by JB-1 will be read and show up on the Apollo.

Q: 3. What's the highest FPS for this timecode generator? 30 FPS?

A: This unit offers frame rates of 23.97, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30fps.

Q: 4. What happens with the timecode when I am recording at 60fps?

A: From the manufacturer; 60fps is the Video Frame Rate. The TC frame rate will be half of that. So, 60 fps Video = 30 fps TC. Please note, that many times the video frame rate is referred to as '60' when it is actually '59.94'. In this case, the timecode rate is 29.97fps. I have a strong hunch that this is the case here. 30\60 is very rarely used theses days.

Q: 5. Can I use this with the Red Komodo and Tentacle Sync Recorder and Tentacle Sync to Red Komodo timecode cable?

A: The Denecke JB-1 Syncbox Timecode Generator (B&H# DEJB1) can use the Tentacle Sync Tentacle to BNC Cable (Straight, 16") (B&H# TEC06) to provide time code for jam-syncing the Tentacle Sync TRACK E Pocket Audio Recorder with Lavalier Mic and Timecode Support (B&H# TETRACKE). And one could indeed connect the Denecke JB-1 Syncbox Timecode Generator (B&H# DEJB1) with the RED DIGITAL CINEMA EXT-to-Timecode Cable (3') (B&H# REEXTTOTC3) to the RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO 6K Digital Cinema Camera (Canon RF) (B&H# REKOMB).

Q: 6. Can it be powered with external dc input?

A: It is charged by micro USB. You can continuously power the Tentacle Sync via the USB port to an portable battery bank.

Q: 7. Does the TC-3 slate have this device built into it?

A: The Deneke TS-3 Time Code Slate reads and displays SMPTE/EBU Time Code; it utilizes an internally mounted SB-2 Syncbox Time Code Generator.

Q: 8. Will this sync a VCR and DVD recorder when copying videotapes?

A: This product will not be able to do that.

Q: 9. Is there any software involved, like the Tentacle, so I don't have to make it an issue with an editor?

A: No. Software is not involved but the unit is updatable via micro-USB for both mac and windows.

Q: 10. Can the bluetooth be used for syncing to bluetooth devices like the Zoom F2-BT?

A: Yes. But in order to do do the F2 Editor app is needed for time coding. Please review the following https://bit.ly/3LkEUr3

[:wave or :pulse] Really small, light and easy to mount on just about any camera (with a bit of velcro). Very simple device that just works. I jam it to my Zoom F8n - just plug in and away it goes. For days.

Wish it wasn't so expensive, but hey, the time it'll save me in post is worth it.

[:wave or :pulse] The pic on the website doesn't show it, but the pouch also includes a velcro flap with a belt hook style clamp that works great for mounting on the side of my audio bag (Orca OR-30). Makes for more storage room inside the bag for other gear!

The unit is held inside the pouch by a flam with magnets sown in. Seems to be quality and I trust it to hold.

The only weird thing is the velcro patch with the belt hook on it is the same rectangular shape as the whole side of the pouch, and the hook is sideways (lengthwise) instead of vertical like I would prefer to "hang" it. So when it is hung this way the rectangle shape of the velcro doesn't match up with the horizontal orientation of the pouch with unit inside. Not a big deal, but wanted to mention.

[:wave or :pulse] Deneke makes solid gear. If you want something you don't have to think about this is your TC unit. The menu is simple and straight forward. The size is incredibly small. You can hide this unit under cameras with Velcro. Did I mention I was blown away by how long the battery lasts.

[0.15 lb] The Denecke JB-1 T/C sync box is one of the best, because it is easy to use, small in size and very reliable.

[0.15 lb] If you know TC then you know Deneke. If you need the best gear then you need Deneke. This little thing holds TC and hides anywhere on the camera. With Camera's getting smaller and less places for velcro, the size of this Syncbox make's a big difference.

Side note, if you need to cross jam, this unit has the ability to cross-jam. Other TC syncboxes have dropped this functionality. Very useful for once in a blue moon.

[:wave or :pulse] This gets the job done without much effort. I shoot on a movi pro and this is the best solution for gimbal work where timecode is needed. More accurate than the tentacle sync and you dont need an app to run it. Just jam from your mixer and plug into your cams, and done!

[:wave or :pulse] This is an accurate industry standard little box that will keep your audio and cameras in sync.

Denecke has been making timecode boxes for a long time and this truly little thing can last days with it's battery life. It doesn't have all the fancy apps and functions that the other brands have, but you are sure you will have reliable sync with the rest of the crew and won't need any app functions anyways.

The only thing it doesn't have is genlock, but most of the time timecode with bnc cables is all you need.
