The U5 is a Pure Class A instrument DI and preamplifier. Designed to optimize signal integrity and musical performance, the U5 is ideal for bass guitar and acoustic instruments, electric guitars, keyboards, synthesizers and low output pickups.

The U5 combines a unique passive tone selector with a variable gain preamplifier and filter. The high input impedance accepts a wide variety of signal levels. Features include a state-of-the-art, high input impedance input stage for zero load effect on sensitive pickups and keyboards, 100% discrete and Pure Class A signal amplifiers. Six passive tone-EQ curves are also included to enhance a variety of acoustic and electric instruments.

A high-cut switch eliminates unwanted acoustic pickup and high frequency noise, while a headphone monitor amp has been included on the U5 for personal listening. Twin DC coupled Class A output amplifiers drive both low level microphone preamplifier inputs and high level +4dB inputs for direct to tape recording or processing. The "active-to-thru" switch selects either the instrument input directly or sends the boosted-equalized signal to the amplifier via the front panel jack. A ground isolation switch eliminates any possible earth loop or AC buzz problems with complete safety.

A: This will accept 100v to 240v, 50-60Hz (selectable). You will need the proper adapter for the cable, but you will not need a power converter.

A: The KE-144 has a collapsed length of 3'3 (99 cm) and an extended length of 12' ( 366 cm).

Q: 5. Are the locking rings made of graphite or some sort of metal. Is it wipe-able with Isopropyl alcohol?

A: The tube sections are made of graphite, but the collars, which you twist to lock/unlock the individual sections are made of aluminum and then anodized.And the collars can be cleaned with alcohol.Hope this helps,Your friends at K-Tek

[Active] I know that the Avalon 737 has been around for quite some time now, but it is still Number one for me. yesterday somebody tried to offer me something else, something new and we did an A/B head to head compare session, and the 737 stood out by miles... If you're a good sound engineer, you'll know how to tame this wild horse. The pre-amp and EQ sections are out of this world. Colored ? Maybe, but I just love this colour 5

[+24 dBu] I'm a jazz guitarist playing an 8-string classical guitar that goes higher and lower than a regular guitar. It has a K & K pickup and I my amp is a JBL EON powered speaker, which, for this instrument sounds better than any jazz guitar amp. I have used the Zoom A-3 preamp as well as an L.R. Baggs Venue DI. They are both very good but I'd say the Grace Alix is the best I've found. It has great features you can read about but I must say that the sound of my guitar with the EQ set flat is strong, clear and simply amazing! It's very well thought out. Worth the price. 5

[Active] I use it with vocals an acoustic guitars, usually with a Neumann TLM49 or Rode NTK.I love the warmth of the tubes in the preamp. The eq is outstanding. The compressor section is very nice, but a little tricky because the attack and release times are a little bit slow and tends to sound too transparent. I compress a lot the vocals and bass and I really like the sound of the optical compressors. If you are good sound engineer an musician, Youll love it. 5

[Yes] Let's say 1200.00 it's not inexpensive, but worth each penny. The voice of the singer of my band Madame R, Rossana Torres, became better, clear excellent quality of sound. I tried to put my Taylor acoustic guitar. I never had a sound like this, passing thru pedals, di, etc. I recommend this Avalon. 5
