Q: 2. I have attached an 82 mm Peter McKinnon Variable ND filter to this 77-82 step up ring and cannot detach the ring from the filter to use with an 82 lens. Any suggestions or help?

A: These Sensei 72-82mm Rubberized Filter Wrench (2-Pack) BH #SEFWM7282 are useful if you are having difficulty removing a filter from your lens or the ring from your filter. https://bhpho.to/3L9PT6f

A: Yes, the Haida 77-82mm Magnetic Step-Up Ring is compatible with the Haida 82mm NanoPro Magnetic Interchangeable Variable ND 2-Filter Kit. Please note that the lens being used must have a filter size of 77mm in order to fit the Haida 77-82mm Magnetic Step-Up Ring.

Q: 4. How much does this product weight?

Q: 5. What is the height protrusion of the ring above the lens?

A: Sensei PRO 72-67mm Aluminum Step-Down Ring is 3.5mm tall above the threads.

Q: 6. How can I use an 82mm filter on a 77mm lens?

A: A step down ring can be used but will cause vignette issues. We do not suggest doing so.

Q: 7. Are there any side effects (vignetting, i think is the term used) when using the smaller 77mm filters on the larger 82mm lens?

A: Hi again Steve, just received your reply. I did not consider going to a full frame camera. Throwing that into the mix especially with a 24-70 lens I think pretty much would cause vignetting. Going from an 82mm down to a 77mm equals about one-quarter inch that would equal a one-eighth inch reduction on each side of the filter's rim. I would expect you'll get a lot of vignetting. One consideration is that the Sensei 82-77 step-down ring is not really expensive and if it caused too much vignetting you're not out a lot of money for the ring itself. I buy that brand, as they work very well and at a low cost. I would say to start saving for 82mm filters; I think you'll fine more vignetting than you'll want to deal with, especially going to a full frame camera and that lens.

Q: 8. Is the description backwards? This looks like it allows one to use a 72mm filter on a 67mm lens. Why would you use a filter that is smaller than the lens?

A: The description is correct; a step-down ring allows you to use smaller filters on larger-diameter lenses. There are a few reasons as to why, for example, to save on the cost of buying filters again if you already own a lot of them in the smaller size. Also, if the lenses have a very narrow field-of-view, the visible vignette might not be significant and not influence the photo that much.

Q: 9. The two answers to the third question say the opposite. Can I use this step-down adaptor to put an 82 VND filter on a 95 lens?

A: Yes, the Cavision 95mm to 82mm Step-Down Adapter Ring for Wide Angle Attachments will allow you to mount an 82mm filter on a lens with a 95mm filter thread.

Q: 10. Any vignetting? I would be using 37mm macro filters on 46mm lenses. Thanks!

A: Regarding the Sensei PRO 46-37mm Aluminum Step-Down Ring, yes, using 37mm on a lens with a 46mm diameter may cause vignetting.

[77 mm to 52 mm] The ridges are important to have in case a filter gets stuck!

[Aluminum] The ring screws on very nicely.

[0.07 lb] Typical Sensei high quality with both male and female snug but easy to thread mounting.  The plating is first rate ensuring reasonable release if you dont over tighten so be careful.  Im using the 77-67 on a Fuji GF 110 mm lens to add close up lenses along with the Fuji extension tube. Works well for extreme close focus.

[Aluminum] I purchased this step-down ring to use the 52mm ND and polarizing filters that I already own on a Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 lens. The ring is beautifully constructed and I've had no issues with it.

[Aluminum] The Sensei Pro step-down rings are a great alternative to brass rings. They fit perfectly without snags or binding and do exactly what they're supposed to do without any hassle. A much better value compared to the lower end versions of step-down rings. Fit perfectly without binding or getting stuck.

[0.07 lb] Threads on both sides are machined accurately. Reasonable price for a brass stepdown ring.

[77 mm to 52 mm] You need to be very clear why you are buying a Step DOWN filter adaptor ring; but this product is well made and sold at a good price. I bought my 77 down to 72 mm ring to fit a Yougnou macro lash onto the 72 mm front of my Canon 100-400 L II lens. At f19 I cannot see any vignetting.

[Aluminum] Works great on my Nikon D750 with Nikon 28-300 lens (normal 77mm filter mount). Can use all my smaller 52mm filters. No vignetting as long as you use the DX in-camera crop option, found on the D750 menu. You should not use these filters in FX Full-Frame mode.

[0.07 lb] Very solid for a simple accessory, but the ridged edge makes a difference in removing tight filters.
