This 67mm Syrp Super Dark Variable ND Filter 67mm Kitfrom Syrp Super Dark Variable ND Filter 67mm Kitincludes a solid variable neutral density filter that can be directly attached to a lens with 67mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 5 to 10 stops. The 1.5 to 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. A Nano coating provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

The included solid variable neutral density filter is constructed from Asahi glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity. The filter rings are made from aluminum alloy for durability while remaining lightweight, and for easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with index numbers that indicate different exposure-reduction values.

Also provided is a microfiber cleaning cloth, a zippered, leather storage pouch and two, aluminum-alloy step-up rings that allow the filter to be used on lenses with 58mm or 52mm front filter threads.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is focusing done with this filter?

A: Prefocus with the filter on, then switch your auto focus to manual focus so that your focus doesn't shift as the ND is too dark for your camera to find focus. Then screw on the ND and your image should be in focus

Q: 2. Can I know where is the filter manufactureed ?

A: I got 82mm Super Dark VND. There is word Japan on edge.

Q: 3. I've read and heard online that this filter effectively cuts some measure of IR. How true is this?

A: Syrp does not list any specifications on IR transmittance. Without a listed specification, this is subject to product variance. It is impossible to guarantee a specific IR attenuation.

Q: 4. I am wondering- if you had two of these filters stacked, would you be able to safely shoot the coming eclipse?? Stop wise it would seem so. I already own one and love this filter.

A: Everything that I have read on Canon's website and the Eclipse 2017 website says NO! Regular ND filters will not work. The filter needs to be photographic filters for solar photography. The danger is damaging the camera sensor, your eyes, and the camera electronics. You want to get a White Light Solar Filter, such as made by StarGuy.

Q: 5. Is this VND "clear" or "off" before turning to position 2 or higher?

A: No. There is no way to turn it "off". The minimum filter factor / density would be 0.6 / 2-stops and 1.8 / 6-stops.

Q: 6. Does this have a front thread?

A: Yes this filter has a front thread.

Q: 7. Does this filter have a hard stop at both ends or does it continuously turn?

A: Continuously turn

Q: 8. What is the weight in grams of the filter itself (without magnetic lens cover)?

A: The Freewell 82mm All-day Variable ND filter weighs 71 g without the lens cap.

Q: 9. Will this fit over a 67 mm B&W ND filter on my lens or do I need to remove the ND filter first. Also, will a 67mm lens cap fit on this Syrp ND filter?

A: If your existing filter has 67mm front filter threads, you can attach a Syrp 67mm Variable Neutral Density Filter to it. It isn't recommended to use more than one ND filter at a time, however. You can attach a 67mm lens cap to this filter.

Q: 10. Does this have hard stops?

A: Yes it does.

[Aluminum] Works exceptionally well for a variable ND. It's pricey, but if you are using a quality lens, then it doesn't make sense to use anything of lesser quality.

[0.31 lb] This is better than I thought it would be. I've owned a Heliopan Variable ND and this one is sharper and has less of a color cast. The Syrp is really a 1-8 stop filter not a 1-8.5 since you get some artifacts at 8.5.

[67 mm] Ive got extraordinary results with this filter. SYRP has made my day in taking pictures.

[Aluminum] It works. Like any variable ND filter, if you go to crazy, you'll get the funky x pattern. Avoid that, and it's all good.

[0.31 lb] Being able to blur the motion of running water, ocean pictures in bright light or even the movement of clouds over an extended period all in bright daylight provides a new world of photographic and creative opporunity. The Syrp variable ND is a great value offering a full range from 1 to 8+ stops of light. Using Live View it is possible to compose the scene with the ND filter on and adding / substracting levels of ND filtration is simple. Having a single filter compared to adding cokin or lee filter into a holder avoids vigneting, and is faster.

[67 mm] I spent a lot of time doing research on which variable ND filter to get for the Samyang 12mm f/2 for my Fuji X-Pro 2. I only do time lapses so finding the right filter was important to me. I must admit I was seduced by the Syrp's marketing machine (you should check out their website) and, upon doing further reading online, I decided to go with the filter for three specific reasons: (1) There is no risk of getting the "X" mark when darkening the image (which happened to me with a cheaper variable filer) because this filter only reduces the light by 5 to 10 stops and they manufactured it in a way that you cannot turn the filter outside of this range; (2) It is made of high quality glass which doesn't alter the color of the photos; (3) it comes with two step-up rings so that I can use it on other lenses. I recently used the filter during a 10-day trip in California where I shot time lapses on the beach, city, and in national parks. It worked well. Be aware though that with a wide angle lens such as the Samyang 12mm on an ASPC camera, vignetting will appear quite often. This seems to be unavoidable and I correct it easily in Lightroom.
