The Shure Beta 98H/C Miniature Clip-On Microphoneis a miniature condenser instrument microphone with an in-line preamplifier designed to clearly capture the sounds of today's professional horn and woodwind players. The mic features a clamping mechanism that attaches to the bell of a wind instrument or the rim of a percussion instrument, while an integrated gooseneck and ratcheting swivel joint ensure secure, optimal positioning. Once the position is determined, the gooseneck angle brace ensures that the Beta 98H/C will stay in place during even the most active performances.

The cardioid pickup pattern of the Beta 98H/C provides high gain-before-feedback and excellent rejection of unwanted noise. With a high maximum sound pressure level (SPL) up to 132 dB, the Beta 98H/C is ready to handle the demands of brass and woodwind instruments and is a strong performer for percussion applications. The 10' XLR cable features a wired, in-line, transformerless preamplifier circuit designed to deliver a linear response across the mic's full frequency range. The microphone requires 11 to 52V phantom power for operation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you verify that the cable length on this microphone is indeed 13.1' long? I purchased a few of these 3 or 4 years ago and the cable was shorter on those. I prefer the longer cable.

A: 13.1' (4m) cable permanently attached to mic, TA3F connector at power module

Q: 2. Will this work with a Countryman E6 to convert from Shure wireless to XLR wired?

A: Although designed by Shure for use with their Twinplex microphones, the Shure Wired TwinPlex Microphone Preamp with Belt Clip (TA4F to XLR) should work with other microphones such as the Countryman E6 that are wired with a TA4F connector.

Q: 3. Does it come with the standard three pin xlr connector or is it a mini xlr connector with an adaptor plug?

A: The Beta-98H/C features a 3 m (10 ft.) high-flex cable with attached preamplifier (XLR connection).If you are looking for a Beta98H/C to use with a wireless transmitter you should look at the WB98H/C. The WB98H/C features a 1.6 m (5.3ft) high-flex cable terminating in a 4-pin mini-connector.

Q: 4. will this fit a shure mxl clip on mic?

A: I'm guessing you might either have one of two models, the MX150 or the Motiv MVL, and this is not compatible with either. For MX150 the recommended clip is RPM150TC (3-pack Multi-position Tie Clip) and recommended windscreen is the RPM150WS (package of 3). If you have a Motiv MVL, the recommended snap-in clip is the AMVL-CLIP (1pc), and the windscreen is the AMVL-WS (1pc).

Q: 5. Is this compatible with AXT wireless system?

A: Yes, these are compatible with every Shure handheld transmitter with the exception of the BLX and GLX-D Series.

Q: 6. Where is it made? ( made in )

A: This item is made in Mexico.

Q: 7. For grand piano, does this sound better with one or two Beta 91A microphones?

A: One Shure Beta 91A Boundary Microphone is all you need to mic a grand piano.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with the Shure ULXD/2 handhelds?

A: The Shure RPW122 is compatible with the ULXD/2 handheld transmitter.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with the BLX wireless system ?.

A: This capsule is not compatible with the Shure BLX system. If you would like a system with the Beta 87C Capsule, I would recommend the Shure SLX Series Wireless Microphone System (H19 / 542 - 572 MHz), B&H # SHSLX2487C19.

Q: 10. Do I need to run phantom power to this device in order to make it work?

A: Yes, it would need phantom power to power the lavaliers.

[Cardioid] I was looking for a microphone with a bit more low end and a bit more high end then the Beta 58A. The Beta 57 did it. Both are great microphones.

[10' / 3 m] The Shure SM 57 has been a workhorse go to instrumental mic for many years. The Beta 57A makes incremental improvements while retaining the things that made the 57 so great.

[Phantom Power] I mainly use this mike on the drum toms. For this application, it really shines. It's small enough to get out of the way of the drummer's sticks. It has such a good frequency response that I don't have to do as much EQing. It's SPL level is high enough to keep the toms clean. I really like this mike!

[Cardioid] Until now I have used various mics on short mic stands as pickups for my acoustic cello. I had tried various contact mics which tend to give an electronic instrument sound and require attachments which are not convenient. A friend recommended the Shure and I used it first time in performance - straight out of the box. Super satisfied with it. Attaches easily in 5 seconds to the tail piece and with the mic super close to the f hole it was the first time I could actually hear the cello from the speaker system - in fact I had to limit the gain. As a result very low pickup of ambient sounds. Plus no tripod to lug. Less lugging is always better.

[Cardioid] We have an announcer on our show who is a Metal singer and because he lacks a certain amount of finesse when doing voice over no broadcast mic seemed to do the trick. This one did.

[Black] generally use it to mic the top of a snare drum with no worries of it being hit by a drumstick
