[0.04 lb] High-quality metal assembly. I didn't realize these were metal when I ordered them, so I was pleasantly surprised. They're about as compact as you can get, so if you're putting together something for a small recorder (like the Zoom F3 or any device with closely-spaced XLRs), they're a good choice.

The end caps secure with two set screws. If you're building some kind of custom assembly, you can discard the end caps and secure your assembly into the barrel by shaping it (or 3-D printing it) to fit in the barrel and be gripped by the screws.

The one concern I'd have is that the exit hole for a cable (which is a notch in the edge of the end cap, so it comes out sideways), is quite small. You couldn't fit a typical XLR cable through it. Pic attached.

Final note: When you open the ziploc these things come in, be careful: The tiny set screws are loose in there, and if they fall out, you WILL lose them.
