Normal prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an 80mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also affords great control over depth of field for isolating subjects and using selective focus techniques.

Gaussian optics design, which includes two high refractive index elements, notably reduces distortion and spherical aberrations for high sharpness and accurate rendering.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

A micro Ultrasonic Motor (USM) is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Q: 4. How does this lens compare with similar products from Sigma? I noticed that a similar lens from Sigma (50mm f1.4) is significantly more expensive.

A: Both are great lenses, but the Sigma is sharper, heavier, and pricier due to more optical elements in the lens.

Q: 5. I bought the M3 mirrorless and waiting on the M mount adapter... I also picked up the 1.4 canon 50mm...I will use it mostly for people and nature object portraits... The focal length is multiplied by 1.6x.... what if any does the adapter have as an effect on the focal length....? I think I depends a lot of the type of photography and professional development you are at to determine which to seek.

A: The adapter itself will not have any effect on focal length, just the sensor size of the camera will affect the focal length.

Q: 7. Does this lens zoom ?

A: No, this lens does NOT zoom. It's called a prime lens which means it doesn't change focal lengths....in this case it's only a 50mm. You can still focus on elements in the foreground or background. I have several of these lenses for work and they are great quality.

Q: 8. Is there a EF 50mm f/1.4 with image stabilization?

A: Unfortunately, no, there are no 50mm image stabilized lenses compatible for use with Canon DSLR cameras.

Q: 9. I have the older digital camera Cannon EOS 450 D. I currently own a cannon 50 mm 1.4 lens that was made to go with the cannon eos rebel k2 film camera which I purchased in the early 2000's. The quality is not as good with the digital camera as with the film camera. I suspect the lens is not completely compatible -- it thread on correctly and I can take shots, but is there some type of conversion going on that is responsible for the lower quality? Or is the problem that it's a 2008 camera and digital just wasn't as good back then? If I want higher quality do I need a lens like this one, created specifically for digital, or do I need a new camera body? Or do I need a 50mm 1.2 lens?

A: Send to Mxico?

[f/22] As an enthusiast this is my first 50 mm lense, and I can't get my hands off of it. I am enjoying how it is easy to capture depth of field as well as detail. It is well built, sturdy and ready for action! Every photographer serious or not should have one.

[46°] I bought this lens to use for video on a Canon 5D, needing something that worked in low light. My other lens is the Canon 24-105, which really introduces a lot of grain in low light as the iso gets ramped up. (I plan to pick up a Tokina wide angle lens down the road for additional low light video work.) The low light footage I've shot so far has turned out great. I love how the lens treats bokeh. The soft elements are amazing. It can be tricky to focus in low light, but that's all part of the fun.

[50mm] I'm a beginner video director, and photographer, I use the Canon 5D Mark ii with this lens.. It is sharper at 50mm than the 24-105mm the camera comes with... It has awesome bokeh for portraits, and I can't wait to use it in my next music video shoot... Glad I bought it!!!

[58 mm (Front)] Exactly like all the reviews said. Sharp where it need to be and the out of focus bits a creamy and delicious. Bokeh is fantastic. And this thing is a bargAin. Only thing is the focus is a little slow for being a USM lens.
