Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this tone? Say selenium for tinting?

A: Toning of this paper is just a light touch of warm (I like very much). This is not Linda greenish like the package shows.

Q: 2. Can anyone venture to guess what toning was used for the image on the package of Bergger Prestige Variable CM Semi-Matte?

A: It is a sepia tone image. I would recommend this Photographer's Formulary toner: https://bhpho.to/3BGm6AR

Q: 3. is this epson 3880 compatible?

A: You can use the Baryta FB 17 x 22 Paper with the Epson 3880 printer, yes. You can get the ICC profile from Hahnemuhles site.

Q: 4. Which LR print settings do you use to avoid white borders? (I've tried various settings but always get a sliver of a white border on one or two sides.) Thanks!

A: We recommend that you contact Adobe support. https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html?promoid=RGJ8NLP8&mv=other

Q: 5. How does this surface compare with Ilford Gold Fiber Silk? Thanks

A: Both surfaces are similar in sheen and texture. The Metallic Satin paper yields the kind of stunning results that previously could only be achieved in the darkroom. Featuring a high-gloss surface thats compatible with dye-based and pigment-based inks, Metallic Satin creates prints that are sharp, vibrant, and exceptionally rich looking, The Gold Fiber Silk will yield slightly less vibrant results.

Q: 6. Is this paper difficult to flatten after development? Can it be used with Ilford filters and developer?

A: Once dried, pressing them between 2 heavy books should take care of the curl for the most part.

Q: 7. Where can one find printer profiles for this paper for the Epson Surecolor P800. There are no profiles for this paper / printer combination on the Inkpress website?

A: Please see attached link for the inkPress page for profile info: http://www.inkpresspaper.com/profiles.asp?PaperID=53

Q: 8. Is curling and then flattening required when using this paper as rolls instead of cut sheets?

A: The Canson Infinity Baryta Prestige II Glossy Paper (17" x 50' Roll) does not have excessive curling after printing so flattening is usually not required.

Q: 9. How does the archival quality of Hahnemuhle Baryta FB compare to Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta?

A: Not sure how to answer that, but the non FB is a better paper for me. The FB has a slight magenta cast. The Fine Art Baryta is very very nice. I havd always used Canson or Ilford for Baryta until I tried these 2 papers. The Hahnamuhle Fina Art Baryta is slightly more expensive than the FB, but the surface is slightly textured and the color rendition is fantastic. I would be confident that both papers are as archival as the manufacturer can make them. Don't worry. Just make great prints.

Q: 10. Does anyone know the archival life of this paper?

A: Display Permanence ratings on this paper using pigment inks and framed under glass with 20% UV exposure can last around 110 years. Framed under glass filtered with UV protection can last 200 years. Album/Dark storage rating at 73 degrees and constant 50% RH (relative humidity) can last 300 years.

[Luster] I've printed B/W for over forty seven years and with many papers. The Bergger Prestige Variable CB Warmtone is my current favorite for both contact printing and projection printing. With Moersch ECO 4812 print developer the image warmth is subtle. The characteristic I love is the paper's ability to tonally separate delicate highlights. At the other end, the blacks are very rich, especially with selenium toning at a 1 to 15 concentration.

[Luster] This paper is excellent. I have used fomabrom in the past, which is obviously a slightly cooler tone. I wouldn't say that any of the images I have printed are warm tone by any means (I have not toned any of them), but they do look great. blacks are full black with great tonality across the mid range.

[Fiber Base] I use this paper for all my fine art work. I'll use something cheaper for proof prints that will be archived in my files only to be veiwed be me. However, when it comes to making the final piece, the buck stops here.

[R200] Bergger variable CB Warmtone glossy lives up to its manufacturers claims for Dmax and weight. It produces lovely neutral greys with the right amount of gloss in the dark tones. It is a slower working paper requiring more exposure to achieve max black, and needs longer development times. It tones nicely in Thiourea becoming a deep rich brown if one's mix leans toward darker sepia. Dries nearly flat with minimum curl. As others have stated it needs to come down in price and be offered in larger quantities. To my eye, it has no distinguishing difference other than weight to similar Ilford warm tone products.

[Multigrade] There isn't probably a better all around paper than this. Heavy weight, nice glossy finish. Great tonality, and mild warm tone. If you've got the cash, try it. You won't regret it.

[Luster] Beautiful warm tone paper, I was sceptical at first at the quality, no more. I plan on using 16x20 if available.

[Multigrade] I've spent the last year searching for a solid warm-tone paper to use in my work. I shoot all of my black-and-white landscapes on Ilford FP4 developed in PMK Pyro, which extends the tonal range of the highlights. I wanted a paper that would complement that with its own rich tonality, particularly within the darker values. This paper does it, and it lacks the sometimes distracting color caste of similar warm-tone papers. Its main downfall is its cost, but I find I haven't regretted spending the extra cash on this. It also, like other warm-tone papers, has a very slow ISO, which means the aperture on the enlarger needs to be pretty open, and the exposure time will still be rather long. This can be compensated for in the negative.

[25x Sheet Paper] The Bergger VC-CB is a paper of high quality. It has a bright surface, the image impression is brilliant. The differentiation of tonal values is wonderful. The use of a cool tone developer can change an image's tones from warm to cool.
