The 4-stop, 100 x 100mm NiSi Nano IRND Filter 100x100mm 4-Stopis an ND filter with a 16x filter factor that provides a 4-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.2 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. To provide a high level of neutrality across the visible and infrared spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks when using the NiSi 100 x 100mm Nano IRND 1.2 Filter, one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating is applied to each of this filter's surfaces. The Nano coating associated with this filter also results in an improved beading effect when in contact with water or oil for greater cleaning efficiency.

This NiSi 100 x 100mm Nano IRND 1.2 Filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity, and measures 2mm thick.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this filter fit on Lee filter holder ?

A: Yes.

Q: 2. Does this fits Tilta 4 x 5.65" Stackable Filter Tray Holder (BH #TIMBT16SFH)?

A: According to Tilta, the Mirage-system supports 2mm and 4mm filters like this Nano IRND 2.1 filter. The issue with your question, however, is that the stackable filter tray holder is not the device you need to hold the filter. You need TIMBT16SFT (stackable filter tray) AND TIMBT16SFH (stackable filter tray HOLDER) to work with the Mirage matte box.

Q: 3. Does this filter fit inside Tilta Mini Matte Box 82mm adapter ring?

A: Yes.

Q: 4. will this fit the tilta mini matte box?

A: Yes the NiSi 4 x 5.65" Nano IRND 0.3 Filter (1-Stop) BH #NIRND034X565 • MFR #NIC-4565-ND0.3 will fit the Tiltaing Mini Matte Box BH #TIMBT15 • MFR #MB-T15.

Q: 5. Which side should be facing away from the camera? I realize this sounds like a silly question, but since these filters appear to have identical coating on both sides, I'm curious if it should make a difference? Should I assume that the side with the engraved writing be facing AWAY from the camera? I just received 3 of these (3, 5, and 7 stop filters) and a bit dumbfounded! BTW, the quality looks fantastic, along with the packaging.

A: Since both sides have identical coating, it doesn't matter which way the filter is facing. We've taken them out on several shoots without noticing a difference either way.

Q: 6. Schneider sells IR cut filters rated for 750nm and 680nm respectively. Do we know at what infrared wavelength this filter begins to cut light?

A: This filter does not cut light at specific nm, but cots down the light by 6 stops compared to what is available at the time of shooting.

Q: 7. Are these the same glass as that found on their cine versions?

A: I contacted NiSi concerning your inquiry. According to the manufacturer, yes, the NiSi 77mm HUC PRO Nano IRND 1.8 Filter (6-Stop) uses the same optical grade glass as used in their standard square filters and their Cinema line filters. They state the only filters in their inventory that use B270 Schott glass would be the filters in their 100mm wide Explorer line, which are not available in the circular format.

Q: 8. Would this pair well with the Nisi ND-Vario Pro Nano 1-5 stops, to create a variable 4-8 stops ND?

A: While the NiSi 72mm PRO Nano IRND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop) does have a front thread, it is not advisable to use two variable ND filters at the same time as it would create undesirable results.

Q: 9. What is the difference between this and the Nisi 4x4? (I read one is 2mm and the other is 4mm) what difference does that make?

A: 2mm filters are primarily used in slide-in filter holders, whereas 4mm filters would not fit them and are primarily used in matte boxes.

Q: 10. I have a mirrorless camera that I had converted for IR photography; regular ND filter do not have any effects on exposure; I want to shoot IR with long exposure, will this NiSi IRND do the job?

A: No, the NiSi 82mm PRO Nano IRND 3.0 Filter (10-Stop) would not be compatible for your usage needs. It does the opposite of what you are looking for; it is designed to block IR to the extent that there will not be infrared pollution when taking a long exposure. As an alternative, the filters in the NiSi Swift FS ND Filter Kit (82mm), B&H # NIRFSNDSWK82, are designed to pass all wavelengths of light evenly, so this would also be an alternative for your usage needs. Also, as standard neutral density filters pass along infrared light unless it specifically indicates it has IR reduction, a filter such as the Hoya ProND EX 1000 Filter (82mm, 10-Stop), B&H # HOPNDEX1T82, should also work for your usage needs. https://bhpho.to/3ieQ30o https://bhpho.to/3LZm8bn

[0.565 lb] Nisi filters have been the best system I have used thus far. I use to get color cast from previous brands. Nisi is the only brand I will stick with.

[0.565 lb] I have used these NiSi filters several times and have always had great results. I recently purchased a Tamron 15-30 f/2.8, and needed to purchase the larger mount...so now I am building up a new collection of NiSi filters in the 150 x 150mm size. This filter will definitely help me produce some great long exposure pictures.
