The stainless steel DDS-BN31 4 x 4 Wall-Mounted Bi-Directional Mic/Line Dante Interface from RDL is a complete wall-mounted Dante audio network interface. It features two XLR mic or line inputs, one stereo mini-jack line input and one stereo mini-jack line output on the front panels, plus two line outputs on a rear panel detachable terminal block. Special software is not required to configure the DDS-BN31. Each XLR input provides three switches that may be set from the front of the unit when the cover plate is not installed. The first switch enables or disables P48 phantom for that input, second switch selects the mic or line gain range, and the third switch sets the gain. The mini-jack input provides a switch to configure the input for stereo or summed mono. The mini-jack output provides a switch to configure the output for stereo or left-channel mono. Each rear panel output provides a switch to set the output to balanced professional or unbalanced consumer level.

The DDS-BN31 fits a standard US dual-gang electrical box or an RDL WB-2 back box for installations in thinner European or equivalent walls. It is PoE powered and is available with optional customized graphics.

The two XLR inputs are each converted to a separate Dante network transmit channel. Three gain settings are switch-selectable for both the mic and line input ranges to match condenser or dynamic mic levels and standard line levels.  The mini-jack left and right inputs are each converted to a separate Dante network transmit channel. Each input provides a network digital audio level of -20 dBFS for an unbalanced -10 dBV input. The input is equipped with a selector to sum the left and right mini-jack inputs. The summed signal feeds both Dante transmit channels.

The two Dante audio channels are converted to unbalanced line level to feed the front panel mini-jack. Each channel provides -10 dBV unbalanced for a network digital audio level of -20 dBFS. The left and right mini-jack channels are normally fed from Dante receive channels 3 and 4 (stereo). The mini-jack output is equipped with a selector to feed both output channels from Dante receive channel 3 (mono). This selector may be set from the front of the unit when the cover plate is not installed.

The two Dante audio channels are converted to balanced line level on the rear panel detachable terminal block. Each output provides +4 dBu balanced for a network digital audio level of -20 dBFS. Each output is equipped with a selector to unbalance the audio and attenuate the level to -10 dBV. These switches are located on the top of the chassis and are set by the installer prior to mounting the unit.

The rear panel outputs are intended for connection to RDL AMS connectors mounted in Decora-style plates that match the DDS-BN31. AMS audio connectors include RCA, mini, and XLR jacks. The output plate may be located together with the DDS-BN31 in a triple gang box or may be mounted remotely in a single box.

The valid PoE power and synchronization to the Dante network are indicated by green LEDs visible from the front of the unit. The DDS-BN31 features discrete mic preamplifiers for studio-quality fidelity and low-noise performance, coupled through metal XLR jacks housed in a stainless-steel chassis with stainless steel Decora front plates.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How large is the mounting plate to the wall?

A: The wall plate is 3.2". x 6.0"

Q: 2. Hi there, my question is, how to connect these to speakers? Jeffri

A: The Audix DN4 Dante AES67 Integrated Microphone System Interface BH #AUDN4 will connect to an amplifier/DSP with AES67 Dante connections.

Q: 3. Is this a typical light stand mount? Like, could I used this to mount some video lights to some exposed ceiling joists?

A: The ALZO Wall-Mounted Camera Support with Ball Head has a 1/4"-20 mount which many lights are able to mount on to. ALZO Digital lists the maximum load capacity as 6 lb but recommends using this setup with a payload up to 2 lb, so the light that is mounted would be recommended to be under this weight.

Q: 4. is this for a home studio use?

A: not a home studio, but a distributed network in a church. they sent audio from their main mixing console to other rooms/locations

Q: 5. does it fold flat to the wall for storage?

A: Yes.

Q: 6. What is the round latency spec for each sample rate?

A: Roundtrip latency would be calculated by having an analog conversion and back again. The Focusrite RedNet PCIeNX Dante PCIe Dante Interface Card does not have any analog IO, so to measure roundtrip, it would need to be paired with another device to measure, which would also add to the latency time. Being that all analog IO has slightly different latency specs, Focusrite did not want to release a spec based on a specific analog IO’s latency spec along with the cards. This is why Focusrite uses the terminology 'ultra-low roundtrip latency'.

Q: 7. What are the dimensions of the wall mounting bracket?

A: The Impact 7 ft HD Wall-Mounted Boom Arm is 46.18 x 8.78 x 4.78 inches.

Q: 8. I have a set of Impact 600 lights with the octagon shadow boxes. do I need any other accessories in order to have my light suspended from this bar? Julia

A: No, the light will fit straight on the arm

Q: 9. can a ring light be attached to this mount?

A: If your ring light has the standard 5/8" light stand receptacle on the bottom of the light fixture, then yes, it would be able to connect to the Impact 7 ft HD Wall-Mounted Boom Arm. If the ring light you own does not have a 5/8" receptacle, then you would need an adapter that converts the standard 5/8" baby stud on the boom arm to the connection used by your ring light.

Q: 10. Is it not advisable to mount this outdoors?

A: The Impact 7' HD Wall-Mounted Boom Arm can be mounted outside but it is not designed for that purpose. This product is not weather resistant.

[> 50 kOhms] If you are looking for a high quality build with powerful headphone amp, which can plug in anywhere on the Dante network, look no further. I love this thing! Another valuable feature is having both 1/8in & 1/4in jacks built in.

[24 bits] I found these because I needed a more affordable Dante interface for Webex Room Kit integrations with Ceiling Conference Microphones using Dante. For Webex Room kits, they only accept Mic Level inputs so the switchable line level to mic level worked perfectly.
It only needed a $11 of parts with a TRRS 4 pin Phoenix adapter and a female XLR pigtail.
Works perfectly, sounds great, much cheaper than the alternative.

[20¿dB] I am using this interface primarily to record 2 stereo pairs from my Elektron Octatrack and multitracking with Ableton Live and Adobe Audition. I'm monitoring on JBL LSR205s & KRK KNS8400s.

The build quality of the interface is very nice and the knobs feel durable with no wobble and a good amount of rotation pressure that feels precise and smooth. I have am experiencing very low latency on OSX El Capitan and successfully multitracked into my iPad using Beatmaker.

The compressors sounds nice, especially for the price range. I find them to be perfectly subtle; there to enhance your audio recording rather than act as an effect. I think that's a smart decision for an onboard compressor since you could get more dramatic, pumping, compression in your DAW if that's what you're going for.

Overall I'm really happy with this interface. I could hardly find reviews of this line so hopefully this is helpful for anyone else looking at these.

[20¿dB] As I am upgrading my production machines to apple silicon, I was in need of a new high channel count Dante interface for my virtual soundcheck machine. This installed and configured with zero issues, recording 128 channels at 96k, also using prodcom for speech to text for talkback mics on an M1 Mac mini. Flawless. Highly recommend. The fact that Dante Controller is also able to utilize this as a NIC is a huge plus over the now obsolete Dante accelerator card.
