FirstLight 100mm f/14 Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope with Nano Mountis a portable, yet powerful observation platform that can achieve high magnifications for detailed views of the Moon and planets and has the ability to reach out past our solar system to observe brighter deep-sky objects such as nebulae and galaxies.

The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical configuration is engineered with a convex meniscus lens that not only eliminates the need for periodic collimation, but by the nature of the lens requires a smaller secondary mirror that limits obstruction and increases contrast. The Maksutov optical path results in a slower focal ratio and narrower field of view versus a similar Schmidt design, but the optical benefits make this a useful scope for planetary and double-star observation.

The scope features the manual Twilight Nano alt-azimuth mount with dual-axis control cables that allows users to track objects as they move across the night sky. Its stainless steel tripod provides a stable observation platform, and several observational accessories are provided that include a 25mm eyepiece, a 90° star diagonal, a universal smartphone eyepiece adapter, and an unmagnified red-dot finderscope.

Q: 1. a) Can we use a power adapter (dc/AC/Car) with this if battery runs out ? If yes, which model ?

A: Yes, there are a couple power options for this. One can use the Celestron AC to DC Power Adapter, BH #CEACDCPA (https://bhpho.to/3yhjx6R). One can also use the Celestron Car Battery Adapter (25'/7.7 m), BH #CECBAU2000 (https://bhpho.to/3vNHf98).

Q: 2. Can you use a hand controller thru the aux connectors and not just smart phone or tablet just in case say a person's phone or tablet breaks?

A: Yes, you can use a NexStar hand controller through the aux port to control the telescope. Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

Q: 3. What is the weight of just the scope?

A: The weight of the OTA is about 4 lbs.

Q: 4. Is the dc jack that is on the telescope is of non-standard length ? I couldn't fit any of the existing 12v dc power adapters that I had. Do telescopes have a different jack length ? Is there a way I can use the standard 12v dc power supply with it (using some connectors perhaps ?) . Standard dc jack length is 10mm, while this telescope requires around 13mm. Is that correct ?

A: The Celestron AC to DC Power Adapter (BH #CEACDCPA • MFR #18778) is the correct power adapter for the Celestron Astro Fi 102mm f/13 Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope. This is a 12 volt 2A with a 5.5mm DC plug on the end. This plug has an inner diameter of 2.1mm (.08"), and a length of 10mm - 15mm (.39" - .59").

[1400mm] Beginners here, but this telescope went above and beyond our expectations on the first night! We've seen details on the moon and in planets we didn't think possible in a light polluted neighborhood. Easy set up and use, though calibration is sometimes wonky if you haven't done it before. Red dot scope make that really not needed though, just point at a dot and see what it is!

[Manual alt-az] Scope arrived in perfect condition. Collimation was dead on. No image shift when focusing. Views of Mars, Saturn and Jupiter were much better than I hoped for! With an orange filter, markings on Mars were visible. Highly recommended if you like small scopes!

[1400mm] This was a gift for my husband. He was very surprised and so excited. He has already taken it out to look at the sky. It is so easy to use and compact, but yet powerful. He is a novice but is already looking to get extras for his new scope.

[17 lb] I have wanted a telescope since middle school, but procrastinated for over 60 years. Now I have a Sky-Watcher 4 Maksutov and life is good.
This telescope is the largest size which will work with an iOptron SkyGuider mount, and altogether is portable enough to take out on a whim, or travel by air. The Sky-Watcher is made very well. The construction is solid but not too heavy. The optics are entirely enclosed, except for the opening for an eyepiece or camera. Focusing is by a small knob which moves the primary mirror. There is little or no evidence of wobble in the focusing process. The kit comes with a finder (red dot), star diagonal (mirror), and two eye pieces, 25 mm (52x) and 10 mm (130x), both reasonably good quality Ploessl lenses. The red dot finder (like a gunsight) makes it easy to find objects suitable for the magnification, and is simple to align on a bright object (e.g., Sirius or the moon). With the addition of an inexpensive camera adapter and T-mount, the Sky-Watcher becomes a 1300 mm lens, perfect fo sharing the moon and most Messier objects with friends. The FOV with a FF camera is about 1.2 arc-degrees. A 4 aperture can be used to view objects as dim as Magnitude 12 or 13. A larger scope and eyepiece (2 v 1.25) would be better for viewing or astrophotography, but much heavier and starting at 4x the cost (including mount). Im extremely happy for now, and its something to share with my grandchildren. Best of all, it arrived in time for the Blood Wolf Super Moon eclipse on 1-20-19.

[Manual alt-az] I’ve wanted one of these for quite some time, and am glad I
finally pushed the purchase button. The scope is well made. The optics are
sharp and contrasty; what one would expect from a good MCT. The collimation
seems to be very good, if not just slightly off. I added a third-party dual-speed
focuser for imaging, and the focus accuracy was much improved. I’m not fond of
the mounting plate being attached to the optical tube. It’s not a light scope,
so rings and a handle would make handling way easier. Overall, I’m happy with
it.

The attached moon image was taken at prime focus with an
APS-C sensor to give a reference to the magnification at a roughly 4300mm focal
length with the cropped sensor.

MCT’s aren’t usually used for deep sky objects, but I wanted
to see what it was capable of. So, I imaged the Orion Nebula with a narrowband
filter for approximately two hours at 30 sec. subs. I didn’t want to blow out
the core, so I pushed the levels and curves just a little to get this image of
Orion’s stellar nursery.

[100mm] The telescope took a little to learn the first night. But on the next two nights we were using it to view the moon's craters and the impact rings around them.

The whole family got to enjoy the telescope.

[1400mm] I live in Australia and received the Explore Scientific FirstLight 152mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope in good condition. The telescope is absolutely amazing and you can see sharp sky view, especially the planets. The B&H staff also was helpful and amazing throughout the purchase process up to the shipping. I would love to give the telescope and B&H 10 stars, unfortunately there are only 5 to pick from. Thank you
