The Manfrotto XPRO Fluid Base Tripod Headfrom Manfrotto XPRO Fluid Base Tripod Headis a FLUIDTECH-cartridge-equipped panning base designed to convert many of Manfrotto's photo monopods into video supports.

The base is constructed of a durable trio of materials consisting of aluminum, steel, and rubber, which support professional use while restricting its weight to a negligible 15.8 oz. The center of the base consists of a 1/4"-20 attachment thread that is designed specifically to connect to the bottom section of select Manfrotto monopods. This thread is directly connected to a "3D" fluid cartridge that facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single axis. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

The three feet which extend from the center of the base feature a simple folding mechanism that allows them to retract up and around the base when not in use. This design allows the base to remain compact and portable while still attached to the monopod and allows for easy travel and storage of your gear.

A: We could not find any significant difference between the two. It appears to be a difference known only to Manfrotto. We therefore suggest buying the cheaper one while you can.

A: No it will not. The male thread on this base is not long enough to reach the recessed female threads on the Gitzo monopods.

Q: 5. what monopods are Manfrotrto xpro fluid base compatible with? Would it work with Sirui P-326 6-Section Carbon Fiber Monopod?

A: The XPRO Pluid Base is only compatible with select Manfrotto Monopods. Those monopods are the MPMXPROA3US, MPMMXPROA4US, MPMXPROC4US, MPMXPROA5US and MPMXPROC5US. It is not compatible with Monopods from Sirui I'm afraid.

Q: 6. Does the Fluid Base make the monopod more stable for still photography (I'm not doing video)?

A: The fluid base offers the additional capability of smooth movements during video shooting, it may also help in tracking moving subjects for bursts of high frame rate still shots as well.

Q: 7. If I attached a head (any compatible head), would this base allow for smooth panning?

A: There is no designed way to attach a head directly to this monopod base.

Q: 8. What is the inside diameter of the top where the 1/4-20 screw thread is located? I want to adapt it to a different brand of monopod.

A: The inside diameter is almost exactly 1/2

If you are looking for a carrying case compatible for the above setup, the Manfrotto 3279BLK (AW-3279B) 25" Tripod Bag, B&H # MA3279B, or the Ruggard Padded Tripod / Light Stand Case (27"), B&H # RUBP20272, would be compatible for your usage needs.

Q: 10. I have a Manfrotto MMCOMPACTADV-BK; no other model number. Will this base work with it?

A: Unfortunately, the XPRO Fluid Base is not compatible with the Manfrotto MMCOMPACTADV-BK.

[15.8 oz (450 g)] I bought this monopod for (I guess) the same reason as many customers: good stability, reasonable price, and easy to carry compared to my tripod. I have always been happy with Manfrotto equipment and this monopod is no exception. Looking at specs, I preferred the aluminium version and carbon fibers were not worth the extra cost. Added to the tripod, the base kit is a great add-on (but does not make miracles). My aim is to use it with the thick-and-heavy Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 zoom, which should be perfect. Only drawback: Manfrotto ballhead and base kit makes the whole set already heavy. Moreover, this model of monopod is tall (this is what I wanted) and not compact at all. I would definitely highly recommend this monopod and rate it 5*. 5

[15.8 oz (450 g)] I use the Xpro base with my Zhiyun Crane gimbal. I am able to set the gimbal down without turning it off and can fully trust it will not fall or tip over. This helps so much when run and gun film-making as a one man band. I love this product, you can lock and unlock for fluid pan and rotate motions. I also use the product on my monopods for wedding film-making. 5

[1.2 lb] The Manfrotto aluminum MonoPod is a well built, well designed and easy to use monopod.......add the fluid base and it makes a great monopod even better. I've use this extensively with a Nikon D5oo w/ 200-500 lens and have to say I'm impressed. 5

[15.8 oz (450 g)] It was kind of tricky to assemble this but once I followed the directions, it went fast. I love how it can lock off and give me a tripod feel. I have it attached to my Ronin SC2 and it works great. 5
