It has a high-efficiency, self-stabilizing, active-cooling system for thermal regulation and a durable carbon steel housing to protect the electronics. Rugged carbon steel housing with low glare black epoxy powder coating, interior double walls, and reinforcement.

High-efficiency, self-stabilizing, automatic active cooling. Thermal stabilization of the LED operating temperature is managed by an internal thermal sensor and CPU, variable speed fan, and heat sink to maintain the LED array's constant temperature at a maximum of 149°F. The hydrodynamic bearing fan operates silently with a very low RPM.

Special patented optics for LED technology

Helix screw driven focus mechanism guides Teflon bushings supported LED ENGINE along 2 rods. This ensures smooth operation during focusing at any tilting position of the fixture. The Teflon bushings also provide a wiping action, which cleans the steel guide rails during focus.

The unit is equipped with a hinged lens door and wire guard. One of the 4 accessory brackets has a spring-loaded locking knob to safely secure external accessories.

A: Lamps are not included.

Q: 5. How do I attach a soft box to the Arri L-7 and what soft box components are recommended?

A: Easy. Chimera makes the speed ring that fits the L7. I have one but I rarely use it. Even at full flood, the beam vignettes on a medium quartzbsnk. So I baffle the soft box with a billowing piece of opal pinned to the spines to help spread the light corner to corner. Truthfully, I never use the L series heads for keys. They are better suited for edges and background. But there are no hard and fast rules.

[490 W Maximum] Very versatile little light. Heats up but thats generally not a factor. Good for subtle background lighting or highlighting hair. Can use it for product shots too, a little more predictable than flash. Quality item, as always from Arri. No matter how enamored you are of your strobe equipment, you need at least one of these. 5

[3200K] This is my first excursion into the world of serious studio lighting. For my simple home studio for selling my glass art on ETSY, this was the perfect investment. The size and weight are suitable to a lightweight stand & arm. The small lens keeps glare to a minimum, working in a confined area. The focusing action by itself makes a noticeable difference - the barn door and snoot are well-made and indispensable for my needs. More power would have been nice, but with my setup, I do not think it would be worth the extra size, weight and heat with the 300 watt model - maybe for larger subjects and/or more general purpose applications, but that's not what I currently do. I am very impressed with the construction, glad I didn't skimp on some flimsy cheaper unit. 5

[Fresnel] Great addition for a lightweight travel interview lighting kit. I use this primarily as a hair light or to add interest to a background. You can't beat the light quality from a fresnel lens. You always need at LEAST one hard light in your interview kit. 150w isn't that bright but perfect for talking heads interviews. The ability to spot and flood the light as well as shape it with barn-doors is essential to having a hard light. If you can't afford the Dedolight 150 (which is brighter than this light but roughly the same size) this is the light for you. 5

[IP20] We bought this light to round out our set up of some soft boxes and higher wattage fresnel's. It worked fantastically and provided a great small source of light for providing additional accents into a scene. 150 watts is perfect for small room lighting and when paired with a silk in front can be a great compact main light. 5

[490 W Maximum] I always wanted one of these... 20 yrs ago in film school I did a lot of stop motion work and always wanted a smaller light than little tweenies... Now, I wanted it as a hair light...basically power didn't matter too much, it was just that the lighter and smaller the light, the quicker it is to give dark haired people that little kick (especially if the background is dark)---this is for anything, I work on features, music videos, and docs...) Well, sensors are so much more powerful than the film stocks from back in the day, wow! This is so much more powerful now. In a pinch, I could use it as a key (with lots of diffusion) for an interview. It cools really well, and the flood/spot control is really smooth (as to be expected from Arri), and this is just one of the little, but hugely important differences between this light and cheapie redheads. 5

[3200K] This is the perfect hairlight. Of course it works for lots of other things as well, but I got it specifially as a hairlight because it works so well. Also, it's incredibly well made. 5

[Fan] I needed a small, easy utility light. Arri gear, in general, is quality, and this light is no exception. It's perfect for a back kicker, an overhead pool to draw attention to a certain part of the frame, or to use as a source for a practical lamp. The 150s are the scalpels of the industry. They can't dim on their own, but with the Impact D1000 dimmer it's unbeatable. I brought this on an independent shoot and it saved many shots. Also, skin loves tungsten light. 5
