Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Which is better cooke s/8i ff lens or Arri signature prime lens

A: Cooke and ARRI are two of the finest cinema lens manufacturers in the world. Either would do the job they are call upon to do, and do it with exemplary panache. To decide which one to use, you need to find out what the shot or the entire production requires of its lenses. You then do tests with both lenses to determine which one works. It can be said that Cooke's exhibit a warmth that is very complimentary to people, particularly faces. Arri lenses, like Zeiss, exhibit a cooler, very color accurate tone. These two colors are very subtle and you have to look for them.

Q: 2. Is there a version with lens data? /I compatible?

A: No, the ARRI Ultra Prime 100mm T1.9 Lens (PL, Feet) does not come in another model that supports the Cooke /i Lens Data System.

Q: 3. Will this lens work with a full frame sensor? Has anybody tried it? Thanks.

A: The ARRI Alura 30-80mm lens has a 31.5mm image circle and a full frame sensor has a 43.2mm image circle (Nikon FX, Sony Alpha/Alpha FE, Canon EF). Therefore, this lens will vignette and not cover a full frame sensor.

Q: 4. What is the meaning of open gate?

A: Open Gate provides the maximum sensor area (36.70 mm x 25.54 mm) and maximum resolution (4448 x 3096 photosites) for maximum flexibility in post.

Q: 5. Does the lens data contain lens distortion information?

A: The Cooke 21mm T2.2 Panchro/i Classic Prime Lens uses /i Technology which is a metadata protocol that enables film and digital cameras to automatically record key lens data for every frame shot. /i Technology data includes focal length, focus distance, zoom position, near and far focus, hyper focal distance, T-stop, horizontal field of view, entrance pupil position, distortion and shading data.

Q: 6. will these lens cover arri mini lf sensor with out darkening circle at t1.5 or t 2?

A: Since the Canon Sumire Prime Lenses cover a full frame (36mm x 24mm) image circle, there will be a slight darkening of the corners at the wides apertures when shooting at 4.5K LF 3:2 Open Gate.

Q: 7. Lens case dimensions?

A: The outer dimensions are roughly 18x17x9.5"

Q: 8. If I get an LPL adapter for my Nikon Z6, will this lens cover the full frame and work with the camera?

A: yes if you are able to mount an LPL lens (this lens) on a Nikon Z the lens will cover the the sensor and more as the image circle for the lens is designed for the ARRI LF cameras which are significantly larger that FF photo sensors

Q: 9. Does this require a locking mechanism in the mount? I’d like to use it on the FX6

A: The ZEISS CP3 lenses incorporate a 3/8" thread support bracket at the bottom of the barrel. This can be tied into a camera support rig to isolate the lens from the camera and prevent any movement in the mount as the focus is racked.

Q: 10. How does the focal length of these lenses on a full frame body like the LF compare to master primes on super35mm?

A: This lens can cover a full frame sensor. If used on a camera that is Full Frame it will give you an 18mm view. If you use it on a camera that has a Super 35mm Sensor it will give you a 27mm field of view.

[T1.3] This lens is my bread and butter. For all of my client work I need something with a consistent look across the entire aperture range. Up until purchasing this lens my primary client glass was a sigma 24-70 2.8, which although beautiful, got soft when zoomed in to 50mm and under performed in other areas.

Aside from the performance of this lens, there are two things I adore: It's construction and color consistency. Despite being incredibly light, this lens is built like a tank. I travel frequently and it holds up very well. Because Zeiss improved the color rendition in the CP.3 line, I often rent the 85 or 100mm for my b-cam and have a easy time matching up cameras.

Much of my client work requires cropping in substantially (thanks Instagram) and I can comfortably shoot this at it's minimum aperture of T2.1 for a tack sharp image that can be scaled up in post.

I think this lens' greatest competition is the Canon CN-E line, which shoots warm and renders terrible onion skinning on the bokeh. For me this is unforgivable, and I'm happy to see a neutral, clean image coming from the CP.3 line. Assuming this is the look you need, I'm not sure you can get a better lens in this price bracket.

[ARRI PL] These are hands down the best lens on the market. These are Basically Cooke S8i Lenses crossed with Zeiss Supreme Prime lenses. Absolutely insane quality. DZOFILM could charge 35k per lense and it would sell. BEST LENSES ON MARKET.

[Yes] I film architecture and this easily replaced my Tokina 11-20 and I am more than happy to have done it. This is easily my new favorite lens. Well made and pretty rugged. There is nothing cheap about this lens.

The image is so wide and pleasing.

[ARRI PL] I already own a nice 24mm 1.4 so this lens has got some heavy lifting to do to raise my interest. And it has done just that. Now it would be unfair to say it is light years ahead of the Nikon 24mm 1.4G ED lens that I have been using. Truth is.....it just does it ALL very well. Well resolved without being scratchy sharp. Holds the corners well. No CA that I can find and creamy (almost misty) background to help throw that focused subject right in your lap. Honest colors and built like a bloody TANK!!!. So yeah.... a worthy contender at around half the price of the other lenses it beating. You won't be disappointed. Rocks well on my RS3 Pro Gimbal too. Thank you B&H for overnighting it to my shoot and making Christmas happen in August :0)

[Imperial] I needed something longer than my 55 but shorter than my 85 so this is just right for me. Amazing wide open but I recommend a large production monitor to stay on top of the focus, DoF this shallow is gorgeous but you can't take your eye off it for a second.

[T22] This lens is breathtaking. At T1.5 it gets a fantastic creamy look that is not achievable with the 85 or 135. I highly recommend.

[Yes] Love this lens. Just note that the image is flipped. You have to flip the image in camera, then AGAIN in post. An unfortunate side effect of being SO wide with this lens and the level of engineering to make it not cheap looking.

I think Arri will have a fix for it in one of their SUPs, hopefully soon.

[T22] Love everything about this lens; build quality, weight (light weight) and the optics are perfection. Elevates everything. Fantastic lens.
