The Really Right Stuff PC-LR Panning Clamp Lever-Releasefrom Really Right Stuff PC-LR Panning Clamp Lever-Releaseis an Arca-type compatible, dovetail-equipped, 360° panning base that features an Arca-type clamp equipped with a lever-release.

A useful accessory for panoramic and landscape photographers, the PC-LR base allows the user to rotate their camera 360° on top of a tripod, ball head, or other support. The base may be attached to a support or Arca-type ball head via the integrated Arca-type dovetail, a 3/8"-16 threaded socket, or a 1/4"-20 threaded socket. The base also features a rosette design for secure mounting to compatible ball head and other device, and will prevent twisting at the coupling point between the clamp and head over time. A legacy tongue-and-groove adapter is available separately.

When in use, the rotation of the mounted camera may be accurately monitored via a laser engraved degree scale which features markings in 2.5° increments. When the photographer decides on a stopping point the rotation may be locked by an integrated screw knob. The clamp also features a diameter of 2.9", a total height of 1.4", and includes a single bull's-eye bubble level for accurate leveling.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The box includes any screw?

A: RRS includes a screw with any clamp with a non-threaded center hole, but this clamp has a 3/8" threaded hole, so no screw is included.

Q: 2. I have an RRS BH-40 ballhead and RRS TV24L tripod. is this clamp better than adding a leveling base?

A: The Really Right Stuff PC-LR Round Panning Clamp with Lever-Release Release is solely a panning clamp to go on top of a head or the like. This does not offer any leveling. However if your goal is to easily pan on a level plain, this can easily do that. This would go on top of your ball head, and your ball head would effectively be your leveling base.

Q: 3. Does this have detents, or click stops at 10, 15, 20 etc degree markings similar to the Novoflex or Nodal Ninja rotators?

A: There are no detents or click stops at the 10, 15, or 20 degree markings on the PC-LR Round Panning Clamp with Lever-Release.

Q: 4. Can this clamp be mounted on a Sirui K-20x ballhead?

A: The Sirui K-10X, K-20X, K-30X & K-40X ball heads all have non-removable clamps, so the answer to your question is "no".

Q: 5. Can this be used for vertical single-row panoramas? I'll be picking up a RRS 3-series tripod and BH-55 head. I have a 5D IV with at most an EF 135mm f/2 L lens. I already have the RSS L-bracket. So wondering if I could drop the ball head into one of the 90-degree slots and then be able to do a vertical pano with this item along with the MPR-CL-II nodal slide. Or, is this only designed for single-row horizontal panos?

A: It can work for how you intend to use it.

Q: 6. How to select?...screw knob or lever clamp type?

A: The screw knob would last longer and is less likely to break.

Q: 7. can i use this on the BH30?

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff PC-LR-40 Compact Panning Clamp features a built-in, patent-pending R-Mount, allowing you to rigidly mount it onto any Really Right Stuff ball head stem including the Really Right Stuff BH-30 Ball Head. Alternatively one can mount the Really Right Stuff TH-DVTL-40 Round Dovetail Plate to the bottom of the Panning Clamp to quickly attach and detach to the existing clamp.

Q: 8. I'd like to attach the PC-LR to the top of a Nodal Ninja RD-16 II which has a 3/8"-16 center and two 1/4"-20 holes. Are those 1/4"-20 holes on the bottom of the PC-LR and would I need matching studs or do they come with the PC-LR?

A: One of the threaded holes on the Really Right Stuff PC-LR Round Panning Clamp is 1/4"-20 and one is a metric M6 size thread. A cap-head screw is included for each one.

Q: 9. Does this accommodate the 38mm Arca-Swiss camera plates?

A: Yes it is compatible with standard Arca Swiss compatible plates.

Q: 10. Im switching over to Ara-Swiss from manfrotto and im still uneasy about not having a plate that automatically clmps shut automatically. How secure is the clamp arm? does it click into place or is it fairly easy to accidentally open up?

A: While it opens easily its not particularly vulnerable to accidental opening. Theres an intermediate position (90 degrees) that allows the plate to slide but still prevents lifting out. If you install the little stopper screws on the plate its still captured in this position.

[11.8 oz (336 g)] The panning clamp is very well built. You can clamp it in your existing arca ball head clamp or replace your existing clamp with it. It works great for pano shots but a little sticky for video. You really should be using a fluid head for video anyway but it works in a pinch.

[1.4" (3.5 cm)] This RRS panoramic lever clamp is the only one clamp having both panoramic function and lever clamping function in the market. The USA made quality of this RRS clamp is undoubtedly firm and reliable and precisely manufactured. I use this product on my electronic filming slider so the camera thereon can be securely fitted without sway or play and be oriented to parallel to the sliding direction precisely. The panoramic locking knob of this clamp performs a very strong lock function so I don't need to worry about inadvertent rotation of the camera even it's is tilted or vertical. The only one shortage is the very high price.

[Arca-type] This clamp is like all their products, Very well made! It pairs perfectly with the TA-2U Leveling base. I love the lever release clamp. It's super smooth and just a little pressure with the locking knob, locks everything down. With the integrated dovetail, it mounts right on their leveling base. To be honest, I haven't tried any other manufacturers panning clamp. I bought this one because, like all the other products I have from RRS, I knew the quality would be second to none. It may cost a little more than other clamps, but you won't be disappointed.
