Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a safety on the lever-release?

A: No, you do not need a safety lock on the RRS lever release. The release plate should have safety pins to prevent the plate from quickly sliding off if you release the lever by mistake.

Q: 2. will this ballhead hold a niko d800 and 80-400 lens?

A: That lens and camera weigh nearly 6 lbs, which is too close to the load capacity of 8.8 lbs. You can never have too much capacity. This RRS ballhead would be a much better option: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1301053-REG/really_right_stuff_bh_30_pro_bh_30_ballhead_with_mini.html

Q: 3. Will this fit a vanguard 265 CB?

A: Yes it is compatible with the Vanguard 265CB.

Q: 4. Does this truly pan 360 degrees or is panning achieved only by movement of the ball?

A: The BH-25 will pan by the movement of the ball head. The BH-30 will have a seperate panning lever. See: https://bhpho.to/2yDP42r.

Q: 5. How is this screw know compared to the lever clamp?

A: The screw and the lever are personal preferences, beyond that some users like the lever when they are shooting in cold weather and wearing gloves. The lever is much easier to use with gloves and is also quicker.

Q: 6. Will this be okay to use with an a7Riii and a Fe 24-70mm f4? Seem to be under the 8lbs weight requirement, just not sure how it is in real-world use for traveling.

A: Yes it will be. This head has an 8.8 pound load capacity, the combination of A7RIII and FE 24-70 F/4 lens are well under that load capacity.

Q: 7. How to mount this head on the RRS TVC series?

A: I just made a quick trip to Home Depot and purchased a 1/4-20 threaded coupling, similar to what you would use to join threaded rod. 2 pack was $.98. Works great!

Q: 8. Will this support a Sony a7riii and a 24-70 f4 lens?

A: Yes, but a bigger head with a bit higher load capacity would be a better fit.

Q: 9. Does this order come with quick release plate?

A: This ball head does not come with a quick release plate.

Q: 10. How is this Lever-Release Clamp vs the screw knob version?

A: Excellent alternative. First it's quicker. Second, you don't have the protruding knob. But in final function mode, either one will do the job.

[Screw Knob] Not used much yet but definitly surprizingly sturdy and solid clamp for it's size. I screw it on a DIY aluminum plate strapped around a tree trunk and rigged to fit on top of my Sherlock walking staff. Light and simple. Canon 5D and small zoom totally safe with barely any vibration.

[Arca-Type] This clamp is really expensive, however it is also really high quality. As with all RRS Stuff you buy it once and generally have it for life, at least that has been my experience.

[Arca-Type] I use this along with the RRS Pocket Pod.   Ive hung my Nikon D850 with a heavy wide angle lens on it...rock solid.  I have come to expect nothing less from RRS.

[Arca-Type] Great design and construction and reliable. The best ball bead for your compact gear.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] THE best micro ball on the market. Very well designed, 101 uses and locks with zero slop/sag.

It's also shockingly strong. I've used it holding a Hassy H5D with zero issues and it locks instantly with none of that minute sag at tightening so common in ball heads.

It also can only drop 45 deg in any given direction so if you make a mistake, it can only drop 45.

RRS should market scaled-up versions of the design.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] Made by RRS so the quality is superb as always. I screw the 1/4-20 end into my Shinobi monitor. The clamp then mounts to an RRS rail on the top of my camera cage (so the ball-clamp is actually upside-down). I can then position the clamp where I want on the rail, and tilt it as needed. Note it is not a true ballhead, so the tilt-angle is limited to +/- 45 degrees - but that is just fine for my monitor use. I have not needed to adjust the ball tension, it holds very securely right out of the box.

[Arca-Type] I use these to mount small monitors, and audio recorders to the top and bottom rails of my video camera (BMMCC). The camera cage has RRS rails installed on the top and bottom, so I can mount lights, recorders, monitors, microphones.

The Arca-Swiss clamp tightening knob works flawlessly and is silky-smooth. The QR-style lever for the ball is a bit awkward - it is hard to find the right tension - not too tight, not too loose to make adjustments... But once you get the position set, and tighten the clamp, it is incredibly sturdy.

I am not aware of any competitive option, this small, this flexible, this sturdy, this high-quality, at any price. Yes it is really expensive, but the build quality is unsurpassed. Once you have it, you won't regret the price. I only have 2 of these but wish I had 10. Made in USA.

[0.375 lb] Purchased with RRS pocket tripod makes a great combination. Small ,light weight, and sturdy. Tried to make it sag with large lens, but it didnt.
