Featuring a hand-tuned capsule and quiet Class-A discrete circuitry, the Blue Baby Bottle SL Large-Diaphragm Condenser Micis a studio condenser microphone which builds upon its predecessor to provide a warm and classic sound as well as switchable filter and pad settings, ensuring great versatility for varied studio recording applications. It utilizes a large, gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm, replete with a machined brass backplate to yield its signature sound—supple highs, rich midrange, and honest bass. Further elevating its professional nature is the custom shockmount, which absorbs vibrations to inhibit handling and stand noise.

Use the 100 Hz low-cut filter to attenuate bass buildup and increase intelligibility, which is especially important when the mic is close to the source. When miking drum kits or guitar amps, the -20 dB pad is perfect for keeping the sound clear and free of distortion. The mic's cardioid polar pattern rejects a good deal of sound behind the mic, allowing it to pick up less room ambience and background noise than many other polar responses. The Baby Bottle SL can be connected to any XLR mic input that is capable of sending 48V phantom power.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. i have an mv51 for i phone can i get cable to use on android?

A: The MV51 would connect to Android devices using the supplied USB cable and a MicroUSB to USB Female adapter.

Q: 2. Hello, would this fit on a Neumann 89i respectively over a Neumann WS89?

A: This windscreen is designed to fit over the Rycote 45/100, which is a foam shield for 2.17" diameter mics. Since the Neumann U89i is 1.8" in diameter, this windscreen will be too large for the WS89.

Q: 3. Does this mice support phantom power? Can I connect the mice to my ZOOM H4n audio recorder? It has to xlr outlets.

A: The Rode NT2-A does require phantom power to operate. It can be connected to a recorder like the Zoom H4n which offers XLR inputs and phantom power.

Q: 4. No headphone jack? If recording with a modern iPhone, no way to monitor except maybe high latency bluetooth headphones.

A: The MK4 is a large diaphragm condenser mic which requires 48V phantom power. It can not be connected directly to an iPhone. However, you can connect it to an audio interface that is compatible with the iPhone and one that supplies phantom power such as the IK Multimedia iRig Pro I/O Audio and MIDI Interface for Mac, Windows & iOS (B&H # IKIPIRIGPROI). The MK4 will connect to the input on the interface and then the interface will connect to your iPhone's Lightning port. The interface has a built-in 3.5mm stereo headphone jack with its own level control to monitor the audio.

Q: 5. Hello, would this fit to a Neumann 89i respectively over the Neumann WS89? Alternatively do Rycote 45/100 Foam and Neumann WS89 have the same dimensions?

A: Yes, the Rycote Windjammer for 45/100 Foam for Large Diaphragm Condenser should, in theory, fit over the Neumann WS89 Foam Windscreen for U89. The Rycote 45/100 and Neumann WS89 appear quite similar in size.

Q: 6. Would you recommend this microphone over the AT2050? I have the AT2050, but I want a better overall mic, I am also planning on getting a better preamp or to get a mixer instead.

A: The AT2050 is a fine microphone but I'll give RODE the edge here. 10 year warranty too!

Q: 7. Does it come in a plastic case like I am seeing on YouTube?

A: Yes, the CAD M179 Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone comes with a plastic carrying case.

Q: 8. Connected with XLR jack? Have a cable if so how long?

A: This mic uses an XLR cable which is not included.

Q: 9. What is the difference between the 103 vs 103MT vs 103D?

A: The TLM103 is the microphone only, the TLM103MT is the kit (stand, reflection filter, etc.) and the TLM103-D is the digital version, which is no longer available.

Q: 10. Hello, would this fit a Lewitt LCT 440 Pure microphone?

A: The Rycote Windjammer for 45/100 Foam for Large Diaphragm Condenser may fit on the Lewitt LCT 440 Pure, but we are not able to test it on the mic to be able to confirm this since the Windjammer is only available by special order (we don't have it in stock). The Windjammer is designed to fit over the Rycote 45/100 Large Diaphragm Mic Foam (B&H # RYLDM4510001).

[Mono] At least with my voice it sounds amazing. Both for recording voice overs and singing.

Be extremely careful with the switches, they WILL break if you apply too much pressure to them. I have seen this happen in many reviews, so I am handling this little guy very carefully.

Other than that, build quality is great, it feels solid and as I have mentioned, the sound is just nonsense for a $200 microphone.

I guess a professional singer or voice actor would need a much expensive one to get specific jobs done, but for the vast majority of us this microphone is more than perfect.

BTW, I am using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

[Side Address] I've used this microphone for close to 20 years now, and decided to write a review, because I feel it needs more love and attention on this site. I actually bought mine in Europe all that time ago, and paid almost twice of what it costs today at B&H. Still I have no regrets. Over the years, I have used it mostly for vocals and acoustic guitar. I am a singer-songwriter with a project studio, so the astronomical prices of big boy mics are out of my reach, but I have accumulated some really nice equipment over the years. Not sure that a 5000$ condenser would be a quantum leap, but it's possible. That said, in the 500-1200$ range, I have used nothing that rivals this one. It has great, crisp clarity on vocals and a solid, firm bottom end. I have noticed that the intelligibility of lyrics is very good with this mic. It never seems to be harsh or shrill sounding, yet there is always a reservoir of extra high end available through EQ. I'm usually using the low-cut filter to manage any rumble and floor resonance. In conjunction with a nice pencil mic (I'm using the affordable Octava 012), it's great for guitar. It's solidly built and comes with a sturdy shock mount, as well as the simpler mic clip for quick setup or tight corners. Today, I'd get the black one; other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

[Mono] I'm a full time audiobook narrator. I have tried several mics, including a Neumann TLM 103, a TLM 102, a Sennheiser MK4, a Sennheiser 416 and a Shure SM7B. For my voice, the KSM32 beats them all. It's very warm sounding and very versatile. It's an excellent buy.

[Side Address] I wanted a good mic for talking while recording a video or streaming as I play my Theremini, and this is perfect. The sound is clear and the off center noise rejection is amazing. I have a tower fan about 6 feet behind the mic that is usually on the highest setting and this mic doesn't pick it up. Now I'm trying to figure out where I could put another one for my game streaming setup.

[Mono] The Blue Baby Bottle SL is one of the best microphones under $500, it produces a wonderful, warm sound that sounds great on vocals. I can't speak personally for instruments because I use it for voiceovers, but I've heard that it works well for both acoustic and electric guitar.

The sound this mic produces has lots of presence in the high and mids, but still has solid bass. This mic isn't 'crunchy' in the high ends like its little brother, the Bluebird SL, so I would without a doubt recommend this over the Bluebird.

The build quality on this mic is also outstanding, it has a nice heft to it, and it's all made out of metal so it's very sturdy. The shockmount included also is made of metal and is very effective at nullifying rumbles and shakes.

As per usual with condenser mics, make sure you have a full 48v of phantom power when you use it so that it can get a signal, and make sure you use it with a pop filter or windscreen of some sort. Blue's "The Pop" windscreen looks really nice with it and works well. And on the subject of looks, this mic has a vintage sort of look to it, and it's really pleasing to look at. The shockmount ties in very well with the whole look of the mic, that is if looks are important to you in a microphone.

Overall, if you purchase this mic, you will receive a nice package that produces an amazing vocal sound, looks very aesthetically pleasing, and is constructed very well. In my opinion, it is more than worth the $400 price tag.

[Mono] I run a municipal TV station and do most of the V/O work. Bang for the buck this is a great mic. i use it in conjunction with the Shure XLR to USB adapter straight into Adobe Audition.
