Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is anyone using this lens for wildlife and/or birds?

A: I am a birder and use this lens with my Panasonic micro four-thirds camera! Great clarity and sharp image. Lightweight as well. This is my second round of Panasonic micro four-thirds camera and lenses. Camera has enough options for ISO that this lens works most of the time. It is not a low light lens but still pretty versatile.

Q: 2. Is this lens too big for the lumix gx85?

A: Depends on what you think is big. Compared to the kit lens that is super tiny or the collapsible 35-100 f4-5.6, yes, it is huge. But compared to any 200-600 equivalent on other systems, it is small. Any super telephoto lens tends to be bigger.

Q: 3. Does this lens zoom out externally, like the previous model? I cannot find an image anywhere of the lens at 300mm, so I have to assume so unless told differently.

A: Yes, the zooming still zooms out externally as previous models

Q: 4. Is anyone using a teleconverter with this lens? If so, which one? Thanks.

A: Unfortunately, B&H does not carry a teleconverter that would be compatible with the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm f/4-5.6 II POWER O.I.S. Lens. Im not aware of one on the market.

Q: 5. Any new firmware for this lens?

A: There is no firmware for this lens.

Q: 6. I am using a MeFoto backpacker tripod for my Olympus 10 Mark ii camera for which a tripod collar is needed with the 40-150mm pro lens (wt. 1.7lbs). Will I need a tripod collar for this lens (wt. 1.15lb)? If so, is one available?

A: There is no tripod collar accessory for 100-300, You should will fine using it without one.

Q: 7. Can this be used on the BMPCC 4K camera?

A: This lens utilizes the Four Thirds Mounting/Connectivity System. If the Black Magic Pocket camera you're interested in is a 4/3 format it should work well. Otherwise an adaptor would be required and probably not your best choice. This lens is not considered a cinematographic lens although it is an excellent performing lens at a very reasonable price. I use it on a Panasonic 4/3 mirrorless camera with wonderful results. Good luck!

Q: 8. Is this lens compatible with the Panasonic GH5?

A: Yes, it works with the GH5.

Q: 9. does this lens offer stabilization on a panasonic g7 in both stills AND video?

A: I use mine on a GX7 and it works fine on stills. I do not do motion so don't know how it works with that.

Q: 10. I want to buy some MFT lenses for my JVC LS300. Are all the Panasonic MFT lenses parfocal and will they all work with the LS300 rocker zoom?

A: The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens B&H # PA451754XB and the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens B&H # PA144235XS can be used with the LS300 and be zoomed by the rocker switch. These lenses are not parfocal and rely on Auto Focus to maintain focus. Also note, the LS300 must crop the sensor to work with these MFT format lenses.

[Autofocus] I finally got a pretty good deal on the Lumix 100-300mm lens for my MFT Panasonic G85. M next lenses down are 14-150mm, 30mm and 10mm. This long lens will allow me to shoot the wildlife and landscapes I like.

The lens was smaller and lighter than I expected. It may not even be necessary to use the Power Optical Image Stabilization, especially since my camera body will stabilize as well. At f4-5.6 it's not the fastest lens but plenty fast for my needs.

I am particularly fond of the lens being able to focus down to about 5 feet. This allows me to shoot subjects close up with actually getting in their face.

[Autofocus] This sense has some serious power. The zoom is clear and the stabilization is very helpful. Looking forward to getting a lot of great shots this summer out on the baseball field.

[1.69 lb] The lens is pretty sharp and works well with my G9. The Dual IS is great for hand held shots.

[f/22] The lens is a good choice. Small and light for its range, and very good image quality. Offers in lens stabilization that mates with Lumix in body stabilization for Dual I.S. Got this for birding, and very happy. Light enough to take on hikes and handhold. There is a group on Flickr for this lens; you can see photos that used it.

[67 mm (Front)] I recently bought this lens to go with my new Lumix DC G9. Until now, I haveused the Lumix Vario 45-150mm, which is a good buy and met some, but not all, of my distance needs. I was hesitant to order the 100-300mm, but am very pleased with the clarity. I was surprised at how quickly it can focus on small objects, even at 300mm even on a not so bright day.

The weight and size are not an issue, something I always want to keep to a minimum.

As always with B & H, the delivery time was almost zero.

[0.21x] I’ll preface this review with the fact that all my other m43 lenses are top tier including pana/Leica 15mm, Panasonic 35-100 2.8, Olympus 12-45 pro, Olympus 25mm and 45mm 1.8 and Oly 75mm 1.8. Thus I had to temper expectations with this 100-300 since I was used to amazing sharpness wide open in all my other lens. With this in mind, Ihave been very happy with the 100-300. I wanted an affordable lens to play around with casual wild life shots in decent light and any other need for a super telephoto that arises. For these uses this lens rocks. Yes, as other reviewers noted this lens is great wide open from 100-200mm then drops off. Wide open at 300mm is somewhat soft but only upon close inspection. If you stop down to f/7.1 then it’s awesome up to 200 and really good at 300mm. If you don’t pixel peep you wouldn’t even notice the softness wide open at 300mm. It takes good technique when shooting at 300mm as expected. Overall, if you aren’t a professional and demand the highest critical sharpness then you can’t go wrong with this lens. I considered the oly 75-300 but that lens isn’t weather sealed to go with my sealed em5 mark iii. I also like that this panny lens is a bit larger than the Oly since I find a little heft in the lens helps with telephoto lenses by stabilizing it a bit due to the weight.

[Yes] This lens is very easy to use, currently on the Pen F. Shooting mainly at 300 mm and f 5.6, the images are pretty good, but depth of focus is very narrow.

[f/22] I am using this lens in my Lumix G9 and wow! love it! stabilizes nicely and as long as I have enough light, I am covered.

[1.69 lb] I am enjoying this lens. I have been using it on the birds in the backyard. I bought the G9 and they work well together. I have DSLRs and the weight to carry is just getting tiresome. The new set up is a nice change for what I need.
