Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can it be used to replace the ball head on a Peak Design travel tripod?

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff BH-25 Ball Head with Lever-Release Clamp can mount onto a Peak Design Tripod as long as the tripod is attached with a 3/8"-16, which most are.

Q: 2. How is this Lever-Release Clamp vs the screw knob version?

A: Excellent alternative. First it's quicker. Second, you don't have the protruding knob. But in final function mode, either one will do the job.

Q: 3. Do you have a recommended storage bag for the Really Right Stuff MH-02 LR? My MH-01 came with a matching storage bag.

Q: 9. Has anyone compared the Kirk MPA-2, the ProMediaGear Scepter HM1, and the Really Right Stuff MH-01 LR? All three are high-end versions of the old Manfrotto 3232 tilt head swivel. The question is: are they worth the money and which of the three is the best option?

A: I can't compare the three heads, but I use the Really Right Stuff head (with the Arca Swiss plate). I use this head paired to a Gitzo monopod when shooting wildlife from the deck of of a ship. It worked very well this year shooting in both Baja and the Arctic, and easily supported a heavy telephoto lens. The Really Right Stuff head is a bit over priced (as most of their gear is), but it is well made and should last for years.

Q: 10. Will this product fit to a Manfrotto 290 xtra Tripod?

A: Yes, it will fit.

[14.4 oz / 408 g] I've owned this head 5-6 months at this point and have found it to be more advantageous than I originally thought to be able to tilt the camera independent from the monopod. It's not the lightest or least expensive option, but has that second to none RRS fit and finish. Silky smooth to use. Lever locks up the shoe with confidence.

[75 lb / 34 kg] Really Right Stuff products are built solid. I have several different monopod heads, this is my go to head for when I want to switch between landscape and portrait, as I also have the RRS L bracket on my camera.

[3/8"-16 Socket] RRS maintains its reputation for quality. Use of monopod head makes keeping monopod steady easier.

[14.4 oz / 408 g] If you're looking for a monopod head I would definitely suggest RRS. Yes, you can save some money by purchasing the head without the indexing lever-release, however, I find the time savings of not having to find and fiddle around with some tool when you want to change orientation more than make up for the extra cost. If you're already looking at RRS heads, save yourself the trouble and go with this one. You won't regret it.

[75 lb / 34 kg] This tilt-head is right for long lenses where you're chasing fast-moving stuff. Better than a ball-head, which wants to flop sideways when the action is quick.
The RRS head holds the lens solidly and comfortably.
Some worthwhile hurdles to get over - tilt-heads seem to have their own lingo, so your average monopod user lands up scratching his head. Indexing Lever Release? Vertical and horizontal action? Etc.
RRS has youtube videos. With a little searching, all the stuff becomes clear.
Result: A tilt-head that makes the big glass nimble when the birds fly, or aircraft flash by, or when one is chasing a bug that won't stay put.

[3/8"-16 Socket] What's to say on this head? It's elegantly simple in it's design. As with all other RRS gear, it is built to extremely high standards, and feels incredibly solid. I use this had with a ground pod for low bird photography at the shore.

[Aluminum] Easy to use, lightweight but very sturdy. I've mounted my Canon 5D MK IV with the battery pack and a 600mm lens on my monopod and the RRS head is flawless!
