The RRS BQDS Bi-Directional Plate for Quick-Detach Strap Swivelfrom RRS BQDS Bi-Directional Plate for Quick-Detach Strap Swivelmounts to the bottom of a camera via the 1/4"-20 male screw and gives the camera a quick release function. The plate is compatible with any Really Right Stuff and most Arca-type clamps or ball heads.

The bi-directional dovetail design allows the plate to mount in any direction on the ball head or clamp. On the bottom of the screw, there is a Quick-Detach (QD) socket. Therefore, the plate allows a QD Strap Swivel to attach to the 1/4"-20 screw. Since all sides of the plate are equal, it permits the anti-twist flange to mount towards the front or the back of the camera, and the anti-twist flange helps prevent any movement between the camera and the plate.

The CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum plate has an anodized Type II black finish, and an index mark is found on the side of the plate, which helps to center the camera on a ball head or clamp.

A: Yes, but you also need a QD swivel. The Black Rapid sliding carabiner hooks onto the QD swivel which then can be quickly snapped into and detached from the QD socket in this plate. I am using this same setup, but with an L-bracket that has a QD socket in the base plate portion of the L-bracket. Great setup -- fast, convenient, strong.

Q: 7. Will the screen on my Olympus EM5iii close completely if the anti-twist lip is at the back?

A: Regarding the Really Right Stuff BQDS Bi-Directional Plate for Quick-Detach Strap Swivel, the anti-twist lip is meant to be placed in the front of the camera. It will not fit properly if placed on the back.

Q: 8. Will this work on the Nikkor 200-500 VR Lens. Can I attach it to the tripod mount on the lens?

A: You can use this plate on the tripod collar of a Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6.

A: Yes, move the screw to the side that is slightly ovesized, then unscrew the stud.

[0.15 lb] I have several of these plates but this one was destined for my RRS monopod. Now the monopod is truly multipurpose as I use this plate on a cane handle. Camera/Lens support and walking stick/cane support (with a sand spike, it's a legal defensive weapon). 5

[0.15 lb] Compact and allows positioning for two orientations. Works in a gimbal head and and ball head. The stainless steel quick-detach socket is very secure when using a MagPul sling. I wish they made an adjustable L bracket with these clocking options for the base and side of the camera though. 5

[0.15 lb] I have a couple of these and they work great on old medium format folders, AS LONG AS you cut a piece of rubber to cushion this and keep it from sliding around. Have the quick detachable strap lug that goes into this works great too. Very secure!!! 5

[0.15 lb] I use these with the matching clamps on my Quantum T5d lights for quick attachment to light stands. Trying to screw them on light stands with the cord wrapping around the stand as you make the turn is a pain. A secure fast mount to the stands is preferred. 5

[1.6 oz (44 g)] I wasn't entirely sure about this purchase when I made it, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It's machined metal and is deceptively heavy for its size. It was a toss up between the item with a QD socket, or a small arca clamp, in order to speed up taking my camera on and off my shoulder strap. I also purchased the RRS QD swivel to use with this, and it is equally well made. The two items work perfectly and are exactly what I was looking for - a faster way to swap between my shoulder strap and tripod without having to screw or unscrew something from the base of my camera. 5
