The Dot Line Acrylic Slate Soft Case Kitis a , 3mm acrylic production slate designed to be used with dry-erase markers. The board measures approximately 11 x 9" and features engraved text and lines. The clapper sticks are made of solid wood for a strong audio spike, and they feature a magnetic lock to keep them closed when not in use.

Q: 1. are the colours stickers or paint?

A: the colors on the front is in one piece of plastic with the different colors. the black and white on the back side are made with white stickers.

A: The Alan Gordon Enterprises 11x9" Scene Slate with Marker & Soft Case Kit (B&H# ALCCSPSCK) and Elvid 9-Section Acrylic Production Slate with Color Clapper Sticks (B&H# ELPS911C) both feature engraved markings on the white portion of the slate. The Elvid product offers one additional gray band on the clapper bar itself, and its total height is 0.05 inches (1mm) more than that of the Alan Gordon Enterprises product. The color bars on the clapper sticks of both products are a permently adhered sticker.

Q: 5. what are the sticks made out of?

A: Not sure if I got a defective slate but the arm is so tight that you cant clap the board. Sticks are wood.

Q: 6. Is the button metal or plastic?

A: Button is metal. It also unscrewed itself even though I frequently tightened. The original Abrasom button I had also unscrewed itself. They work great but I cannot keep them on. I am not willing to use lock tight on my Leica.

Q: 7. What type/size of allen key screws and washers to replace if need to?

A: 1/8" bolts, washers, and holding nuts would do fine with the Elvid 7-Section Acrylic Production Slate with Soft Case Kit.

Q: 8. Is it easy to erase? I’ve encountered many slates that get smudged when I erase markings off them and the printed text gets rubbed off easily.

A: This slate wipes clean and easily when used with the recommennded dry-erase markers.

Q: 9. Don't these snag on other items such as straps, clothing, etc., or when the camera is put into a case or camera bag?

A: No. The shutter button does not cause any protrusions.

Q: 10. The picture shows only one spigot, but the review says it comes with 2. Which is correct?

A: The Dot Line FlexiArm (11.8 ) includes two (2) 5/8 spigots, one for each end.

[Dry Erase] The thickness of the sticks os large enough to get an easy good one-handed grip. The tension is easy to adjust. The engraving is well done and doesn't like it's whipping away any time soon. The case quality is great, and the zipper is high quality, not looking like it could get stuck. 5

[Color] Nothing much to say. I've always wanted one. Dry erase works great and the slate isn't too loud when clapped. Did my first tail slate yesterday! 5

[1.255 lb] I have owned a few slates, but this is my first from Birns & Sawyer, and I was quite impressed by the quality. The biggest difference is the wood, which is actual hardwood, and attractive wood at that. My other slates were made of MDF, and that's why they have work out or broken. I expect this to stand up to much abuse for a long time. The metal that hinges the two sticks together is in the center, in slots cut into the sticks. There is no wobble, and the tension can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the hinge screw. The color stripes are made of individual stripes of solid color plastic. My color is simply printed on my other slates, and that eventually wears off. One of the reviews for the stand-alone slate complains that this is a toy because it is so small. This size is called an insert slate, and it is intentionally small so it can be used for close-up insert shots. One would normally also own a full-size slate. The Elvid soft case holds the slate loosely. It has soft lining, is padded, and the exterior fabric and zipper both seem tough. There is a loop on the outside to hold a dry erase marker. 5

[1.255 lb] I continue to purchase the Elvid Production Slates, as they are durable and easy to handle. Plus, the three screws stay in place, which is a big plus. Students in my Film Clubs use them, and I eventually end up giving them to the Slate operators as gifts, with my autograph, of course. 5

[Color] The product was purchased for my daughter who is in film school now. It was exactly as explained and she was excited that there was a magnet to help the closure snap. The white board portion has large enough boxes to write clearly. I thought the bag was a little high priced, but it protects the board perfectly, so I guess the quality is perfect. 5
