A: per documentation that came with the product:Half-press the trigger button on the Transmitter to focus the lens on the camera.Full-press the trigger button to open the shutter. Releasing the trigger button within 3 seconds, will close the shutter. If you hold the button down for more than 3 seconds, the shutter will remain open when you remove your finger from the button, and it will close only when you press the trigger again.

A: I have been very happy with this wireless trigger! It does not have a timer, but will go to timer mode and you set the time on your camera. Hope this helps. I like to use it to manually trigger the shutter and set my camera near a favorite bird perch. This way I am not disturbing the bird and have more chances of getting them on a perch.
