A: Use The VXLR from Rode Microphones. It is an adapter that converts a 3.5mm mini jack input to a male XLR output. The adapter is useful for connecting a microphone with a mini jack connect to an XLR input. A: Yes, it is compatible with the T3i and 70D. While connected, the camera's internal audio is cancelled. So be careful...if the mic is plugged in but it's power is turned off, the only audio you'll get is a low hiss. Upon recordings, the audio is automatically synced with the video into a single .MOV file.

Q: 10. Would this work with a smartphone? I have a nexus 6p.

A: The Rode VideoMic can be used with a smartphone, however would require an adapter such as the Rode SC4.

[Faux Fur] I recently purchased this VideoMic and the Rode micro boom pole to shoot some testimonials. Beyond being lightweight and easy to use, I was loving the 80Hz setting on the mic. My testimonials were shot in a working manufacturing facility, so the hum of automated lathes and water drills would eat any voice recording alive. The 80Hz setting cut down on this background hum and delivered some pretty clear audio. The shoe mount gives you the added option for a camera mounted approach in case you decide to forgo the boom pole. I tend to shoot with a BMCC, so I kept the boom pole and picked up a 1/4 adapter so I could plug right into the camera and skip any syncing later on. Worked perfectly and kept my production moving along. 5

[Faux Fur] This is the best mic I've used thus far. Does a good job picking up sound when attached to the top of my camera. I have yet to use the boom pole but it looks great. Though it's still in the box. TBH I didn't realize I was purchasing a boom pole and dead cat or I wouldn't have got the 3rd dead cat. Still glad I got it for future use purposes. Never know when you'll need one I guess. 5
