Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How many Lumen does the Arri 650 put out? I most often use the Arri 650 but I'm switching to LED's and want to find out which LED's put out a similar amout of lumen.

A: This Mole Richardson https://bhpho.to/2MY1xbC measures on a light meter very similarly to a 650w tungsten fresnel. Overall the ratio from LED to tungsten is about 5:1 when comparing similar fixtures. Fresnel to fresnel or softbox to softbox. 100w LED is about 500w tungsten.

Q: 2. Do you recommend a particular size or size limitation for a softbox over the arri 650? I'd also like to get boom arm setup for the light. I'm currently using the lightweight Arri AS-1 Tripod. Any basic considerations I should consider, and perhaps a recommendation? Thank You.

A: Without taking away from the output too much, a 16 x 22 softbox would be an ideal size to use with the Arri 650 Fresnel. One in particular that works well is the Chimera Video Pro Plus 1 Small. This softbox will accept fabric grids for directing the beam of light and has a user replaceable front diffuser. You would also need a speed ring to attach this to the head. Please see the links for those two products:a href= http://bhpho.to/1MBW8h0, target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1MBW8h0,/a a href= http://bhpho.to/1JZsj5Y. target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1JZsj5Y./aAs for the boom, the Avenger A4041B Alu Boom Stand 41 would be sturdy and tall enough to hold the set up I mentioned above. Q: 3. Does this Model ARRI 650 Plus (Black Model L1.79405.A) come with an Edison 3 prong ground plug?

A: Yes. US, 3 pronged. It is exactly what you would expect

Q: 4. What gels can I clip on to the barn doors in order to play with the colors? The gels I already own started warping, so I took them off the barn doors.

A: You can use Lee or Rosco gels but don't keep the gels too close to the light.

Q: 5. can i upgrade my bulbs to 220v on these units?

A: These lights can accept bulbs for use in a 220v environment which can be purchased separately. For the 650 Fresnel, you can use the Sylvania/Osram FRL (650W/230V). The 300 Fresnel can use the GE FSL Lamp (300W/230V). Lastly, the 150 Fresnel can use the Ushio JCV Lamp (200W/230V). Please see the images below for reference.

Q: 6. Can these be use for stage lights?

A: This fresnels could be used for lighting a stage if used in close proximity.

Q: 7. Does the case come with wheels?

A: Yes the case comes with wheels.

Q: 8. Does dimming this using an inline dimmer cause an audible hum? I'm trying to get new lights that don't do that. I know I can use scrims too, but I'd like the flexibility if possible. Thanks!

A: You're missing the point of these lamps. If you want to dim it, the best thing is the scrims. They are very effective. In addition, if you are opposed to using scrims for some reason, you have the option of pulling the bulb back. If you need more focus than when it is flooding, you can use barn doors, which you probably want any way. Finally, you can also use a 300W bulb instead of a 650W.

Q: 9. Does this unit ship with barn doors?

A: No barn doors are sold separately

Q: 10. Can somebody recommend a case that will fit this?

A: The BH #PEIM3075B would be large enough to hold the ARRI Orbiter Fresnel Lens (15-65°) BH #AROFL1565.

[0.06 lb] This 650 by Arri is fantastic. Working in the industry since 1998, I have come to depend of the reliability of their lights. Easy to use and reliable every time.

[0.06 lb] At Univ. of Florida, in the production program, we work with the 2x650w, 2x300w kit and I have fallen in love with ARRI lights. The 650w is definitely my go-to light. The build is SOLID. You can use it to light the subject or the background (with a cucoloris ex.). It wont punch through gels and diffusions like the T1, but if you need to do that then get a T1. This is a must for filmmakers whether you rent it or buy it; you can never go wrong with a 650w fresnel on set. You'll need it for something sooner or later!

[2.0" (50 mm)] I use this light for still photographs, video and even some 8mm and 16mm film production. It has the famous German made Arriflex quality. It's very sturdy and heavy. The focusing fresnel lens turns smoothly and you can focus from pinpoint to flood light. The Arri lenses have that rich warm old school Hollywood glow. THe power cord is included and long enough for most sets and studios. This light gets HOT! Not just warm but VERY HOT! Bring a pair of gloves to adjust the barn doors on front and be careful where you touch the housing. It's not well known but you CAN put a lower watt lamp in here, like a 350 watt to cut down on heat, power consumption and light intensity. The warm light output can be an advantage if working with nudes as it's about as warm as an average space heater! Be sure to get a very good and sturdy set of legs or light stand for this. It's heavy and a cheap stand will topple over and destroy your light or worse, land on a model. There are cheaper fresnel lights out there but build quality is lacking and you will be frustrated in the long run. Old school tungsten lights have a look that cannot be duplicated by LED lights or strobes. Make certain that's the look you want before buying this.

[5.5 x 4 x 0.5"] My employer is a small sports media production house, he had a box of these things suffering from various issues (they must have been at the very least 10 years old) and I was charged with repairing all of them. The construction on the inside takes Keep it Simple Stupid to a whole new level. For someone who knows nothing about electricity I was able to repair all of them and they work like new despite their age.
