[0.75 lb] After being told by B&H I couldn't change the video head on my new tripod I was so pleased that this item would indeed allow me to do that very thing.

[0.75 lb] I needed a way to securely attach a slider to a video tripod (Manfrotto 546B). When I tried mounting the slider on top of a video head, the torque caused by a heavy camera (Panasonic DVX200) extended out on a slider was too much for the video head to hold steady, thereby causing the slider to droop (beyond any bending of the slider itself). Using the 520BALL solved the issue! It allows you to fine-tune the level, just like a regular ball-mount video head, but once locked in place it's solid! It attaches very securely to my slider. Of course, physics is physics, so you need to be realistic when putting a heavy load on a slider and moving to off-center positions. The slider may flex, the tripod legs may flex, the whole rig may become unbalanced and tip, so use caution and common sense. That said, the one thing you won't need to worry about is the connection between the slider and the tripod. Just make sure you tighten the ball lock well. Of course, this also allows me to attach a regular photo head to my video tripod. Great added bonus. You can't raise/lower the center column, like with most photo tripods, but you do gain the ability to easily fine-tune the base level without adjusting the legs. Granted, you'll need a bubble level on top of this half ball to measure that. Bubble levels on video heads do this, but the ones on photo heads measure the level of the top of the head, not the base. If the base isn't level, it's harder to get clean, horizontal panoramic shots. But this is true with all photo tripods as well - it's not a shortcoming of this product. If anything, this makes it easier to get right.

[0.75 lb] Not sure why, but when purchasing a Sachtler Flowtech tripod, B&H recommends the Short Half Ball (shorter version of this Half Ball). However the Flowtech legs are so thick you won't be able to turn the shorter post. You will absolutely need this version with the longer post.

Meanwhile it works great. Just what a Half Ball should do.
