The Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9 Lens Sony E Mountis a lightweight cine-style zoom lens for E-mount cameras with a Super 35mm-sized sensor. It features a mechanical design with three independent lens control rings: focus, iris, and zoom. Each ring incorporates a cine-style gear with a 0.8 MOD for interfacing with standard cine -style lens accessories. The focus ring features approximately 200° of rotation, which provides room or precise focus pulls, and the iris is clickless, enabling smooth iris pulls. The lens also incorporates a macro mode for close focusing capabilities.

The lens is color matched to other Fujinon lenses such as the HK, ZK, and XK series, which enables smooth intercutting between lenses. The 85mm front enables use with many cine-style matte boxes via use of optional step up rings (rings not included). The lens weighs only 2.16 pounds, which is fairly light for a cinema zoom that holds focus and aperture throughout the focal length range. It is designed for camera's with a Sony E mount, so it has a short flange focal distance, but the lens allows for flange focal distance adjustment so you can fine tune it to the camera you are using the lens on.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the mount on the MK lenses interchangeable? Say, if I have the E-Mount version. How could I change it to MFT mount?

A: MTF Services Ltd offers B&H # MTFUJIM43 , which is a Micro 4/3 Mount for Fuji MK Lens. This allows you to convert this lens to MFT mount. https://bhpho.to/2sqfi60

Q: 2. I have hunted far and wide for an answer to a rather basic feature: What is the magnification ratio for the Macro function? Does this do full 1:1 Macro? At what focal length(s)?

A: Unfortunately, Fujinon has not published magnification numbers. We can say the back focus ring also functions as the macro focus ring by pressing a small button. Then the lens can focus on objects 1'2.9 / 0.38m. When not using macro function, the minimum focus distance is 2'9/85cm.

Q: 3. Does this support Fujinon FMM-6A - allow manual focus from the rear ?

A: No. it does not support any

Q: 4. Will this work well with EoeR5?

A: This lens is meant to cover a Super35 sensor but the R5 is a Full Frame camera, so you will be able to use the lens, just in a cropped mode.

Q: 5. The M4/3 version with a passive adapter could allow this lens to work on a Sony E Mount too?

A: This could work with a Micro four thirds to E-mount adapter, though it may present issues with maintaining infinity focus.

Q: 6. is a lens collar/support neededif on Sony FS7ii?

A: The FS7 Mark II does have a locking E-Mount, as you can see from this photo on our website it is possible to use it without the collar and lens support. https://bit.ly/2B5OfkR However it may still be a good idea to use it for further stability and protection to both the lens and e-mount on the FS7II.

Q: 7. What prime lenses will color match this zoom? The overview states, The lens is color matched to other Fujinon lenses such as the HK, ZK, and XK series. But those are all zooms, it seems.

A: Yes, those are all zooms and at this time Fujinon is not making cine primes. My take on Fujinon lens color is that it is very, very neutral. Angenieux zooms are as well in my experience. Zeiss or Schneider primes are neutral with a blue tint whereas I find Cooke and Canon to be, pleasingly, on the red/yellow tint side. In the end, it will come down to the movie to be made and what it's look is going to be. Extensive testing will be used to determine this. If you are building a personal set, I would say that since the Fujinons are so neutral, all lenses would work with them with minor mis-match.

Q: 8. So , this Fuji lens is native 18MM at it's widest point , and the field of view is 69.2 degrees , which would equal 104.25 degrees if full frame , which would also be many 15mm full frame leneses feild of view , So what lens in Cine format would be the next step wider than this one in E mount ?

A: This is the widest Sony E-Mount Cinema Zoom Lens that we offer from Fujinon. They do have a Fujinon 14.5-45mm options, B&H # FUHK31X14F, however it is for PL Mount.

Q: 9. Is there a 1/4-20 mount on the bottom of the lens to use with lens support of this kind?

A: There is none. I suspect since the lens is made of composite materials and is consequently very light at only 2.16 lb / 0.98 kg, no provision was made for a rod lens support. Less gear is helpful in a one person band for speed and weight and it works hand in glove with the Sony FS7 Mark II with the stronger E mount. However, I hear you so you could always set up your 15mm rods and then support the lens with this: Tilta 15mm LWS Rod Lens Support B&H # TILST05 or this Wooden Camera Universal Lens Support (15mm LWS) B&H # WO175400.

Q: 10. The sony E version weights 2.1 pounds but the RF version weights 4.4lbs? Is that an error ?

A: The lens weighs 2.2 Pounds. Our apologies for any confusion our web team will update the website shortly.

[9] still lenses are very frustrating to go back to after using this lenses

[E Mount] Ive had this lens for a couple weeks and so far so good!  Its gearing is a bit torque heavy than expected but I guess I prefer this to no torque since the focus pulls and zooms will be less whip lash fast on the types of projects I will be using this lens on.  Otherwise, I love the feel of the barrel, the 2 lbs / 1kg is light and even wide open at t2.9 the images are perfectly usable. I will mostly ride this at T4 though.  Love having the clickless aperture and its parfocal ability. I can confirm that the breathing is minimal, specially compared to still lenses.  A winner through and through. If your an owner operator using the Sony ecosystem, then invest in this lens!

[200°] Went ahead and grabbed this plus the 50-135 shortly after they were both released and all don't regret it at all. I saved this review until I got at least 100 hours out of the lenses and here I am- and have not been disappointed. Incredibly sharp, hits critical focus points and holds them, the ease of swapping lenses without moving gears around is beautiful, the macro is amazing and incredibly useful, and being par focal is something that really takes these over the top.

Obviously, they aren't going to compare to some other high-end zoom lenses, but when they're 1/3 of the price, with 2 lenses covering focal lengths of 3-4 other lenses, worth every penny.

[4.205 lb] I've used this lens on a variety of shoots, and it's incredible. Very lightweight. Relatively low profile. Very smooth focusing with zero breathing. Some people have bashed it for being a T2.9. If there's a person in the world who can run-and-gun a doc shoot at T1.4 without a focus puller, AC, etc., then I want to meet that person post-haste and get some tips. For the rest of us mortals, T2.9 will do just fine. Especially if you're filming with an Fs5 or 7, which are already great in low light as it is. I always love the question in Q&A's, How did you make it so both people are in focus at the same time. Try stopping down to 4.5 or 5.6. That's where this lens gets awesomely sharp, and pulling focus is a total breeze as a one-man-band.

It's not for everyone. It's definitely a lower-contrast lens, a look that I happen to like, but looks different than Zeiss CP glass (or the 21-100 Zeiss zoom). The bokeh is beautiful on the MK. Even though having to change lenses (and buy the other) is a bit inconvenient, they're par focal, which makes things easier, and they're extremely light-weight, but seem to have good build quality. I rented, didn't purchase, so it's hard for me to comment on long-term durability. For what I do, higher-end documentary features and shorts, this lens is perfect.

[Available] I prefer manual lens and do not us SLR glass since it is not parfocal. This lens is parfocal, low cost, sharp, smooth, light, 2.9, and 18-55 is perfect for a lot of my shooting.
Just used on a two day job and with FS7 using SLOG which I always use. The results are stunning.
If you own a FS7 buy it you won't be disappointed.
Next for me is the 50-135 and the 18-110 for handheld work. Match those with my Dulcos 11-16PL and I have a great set.

[200°] I have two of these as I purchased a second for a second Komodo. The look is very cinematic with a very nice balance of sharpness. Not overly sharp and not overly soft. Just a good balance between the two. The macro function and back focus ring are absolute bonuses. This lens is very fast to dial in and not overly heavy. The best thing about using this with the 50-135 is that they are both identical weight and size which makes switching between them a breeze.
