The Fujinon MK50-135mm T2.9 Lens Sony E Mountis a lightweight cine-style zoom lens for E mount cameras with a Super 35mm-sized sensor. It features a mechanical design with three independent lens control rings: focus, iris, and zoom. Each ring incorporates a cine-style gear with a 0.8 MOD for interfacing with standard cine -style lens accessories. The focus ring features approximately 200° of rotation, which provides room or precise focus pulls, and the iris is clickless, enabling smooth iris pulls. The lens also incorporates a macro mode for close focusing capabilities.

The lens is color matched to other Fujinon lenses such as the HK, ZK, and XK series, which enables smooth intercutting between lenses. The 85mm front enables use with many cine-style matte boxes via use of optional step up rings (rings not included). The lens weighs only 2.16 pounds, which is fairly light for a cinema zoom that holds focus and aperture throughout the focal length range. It is designed for camera's with a Sony E mount, so it has a short flange focal distance, but the lens allows flange focal distance adjustment so you can fine tune it to the camera you are using the lens on.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is there a servo motor that works with these?

A: The Tilta Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control System would be a great option to control the these lenses, BH #TINUCLEUSM. https://bhpho.to/2vbeAxo

Q: 2. Does this lens communicate electronically with the Sony FS7m2?

A: Sorry, there is no electronic communication with the camera with these Fuji lenses.

Q: 3. Is this lens parfocal?

A: Yes, both lenses in the the Fujinon MK18-55 & MK50-135 T2.9 Cine-Style Lens Kit are parfocal. Generally speaking, cinema manual focus zoom lenses like these are parfocal whereas still auto focus zooms are not.

Q: 4. To be clear, I can switch mounts between E and MFT with the help of MTF Services but can not do so on the X version of this lens, right ?

A: correct because of the difference in Flange distances between E, MFT mount and Fuji X you can not change this to an X mount here are the flange distances for the mount systems E mount:18 mm Micro Four Thirds System: 19.25 mm Fujifilm X-mount: 17.7 mm

Q: 5. Is there a 1/4-20 mount on the bottom of the lens to use with lens support of this kind?

A: There is none. I suspect since the lens is made of composite materials and is consequently very light at only 2.16 lb / 0.98 kg, no provision was made for a rod lens support. Less gear is helpful in a one person band for speed and weight and it works hand in glove with the Sony FS7 Mark II with the stronger E mount. However, I hear you so you could always set up your 15mm rods and then support the lens with this: Tilta 15mm LWS Rod Lens Support B&H # TILST05 or this Wooden Camera Universal Lens Support (15mm LWS) B&H # WO175400.

Q: 6. Hello, I'm curious to know how these would perform on the Sony Fx6 Full Frame sensor. Anyone with insight or experience with such a setup? Thanks

A: These lenses are not designed to cover a full frame sensors (only up to Super 35) so unfortunately they will produce a very large vignette around your footage. These lenses are best used on super 35mm cameras such as the Sony FS7/FS7 mkII

Q: 7. How would these lenses perform on a Sony Alpha a7R IV, say compared to the 2 Sony video lens, ie FE PZ 28-135 F4 OSS and E PZ 18-105 F4 G OSS?

A: Both the Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9 Lens (Sony E Mount) and the Fujinon MK50-135mm T2.9 Lens (Sony E Mount) would be compatible for use with the Sony Alpha a7R IV Mirrorless Digital Cameras. While I have not seen optical performance comparison tests between the Fujinon lenses and the Sony lenses, both would be compatible for use on the a7R, and should have similar build quality and performance.

Q: 8. The listing says that it's MFT, just wanting to confirm that it will work with the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K? I'm also curious about recommended focus/zoom/iris controls for a live broadcast setup?

A: The BMD Studio Camera 4K does have an MFT mount. These lenses will work with that camera. However they are manual cinema lenses. For Focus, Zoom and Iris Control you would need to look at a system like the Tilta Nucleus-M and add a 3rd motor to it. Nucleus-M - https://bhpho.to/2IE1SLL Additional Motor - https://bhpho.to/2Q8FhLa

Q: 9. Do you need to adjust back focus at all to get the lens perfect parafocal throughout the zoom? Shims etc

A: When working with different cameras, even if the mounts are the same, it is always safe to test your back focus before your shoot to ensure the lens focus is correct. No shims are required to adjust the flange focal distance as this lens has a built-in adjustment mechanism

Q: 10. Do we keep the autofocus feature like with the original Sony lense or these are used only with manual focus?

A: Unfortunately, this lenses only offer manual focus.

[E Mount] I have had this lens for a few months now and I have not regretted purchasing it. We have been using it regularly on a BMD PCC4k as part of a six-eight camera video production routine. The images are stunning, and noticeably better than any low budget cinema glass (Rokinon/Samyang) or even mid-budget photographic lenses (Sigma ART, ZEISS ZE). You will instantly feel familiar and comfortable with the look which is not sterile, overly sharp, or video-like. Parfocal feature is fantastic, zoom and focus is very smooth, color rendition and contrast seems true. Minimal breathing and beautiful bokeh. Some reviewers seem to be put off by the use of some plastic in the manufacturing of the lens case. To me it does not feel cheap and I really appreciate the light weight that is achieved in this way. I would say that this lens (and it's 18-55mm cousin) are the perfect complement to the PCC4k. Rent it once to try it out. I think you will love it!

[9] Bought this lens to use on a blackmagic studio 4K camera. It’s being used as the main follow camera in a church broadcast. Looks stunning. The feel of the camera and quality of the glass makes this camera shine.

[4.28 lb] Generally working without an AC, these are great to run around with. These light weight zooms have a great range where I don't find myself changing between them that often and the macro capabilities on each lens are an added bonus!

[E Mount] Have had these MK’s since December of 2017 and we love them! Great glass, great value. Use them with our FS7, works perfectly. The set was a no-brainer.

[0.8] I'm a life long photographer, but I'm new to video. In the world of photography I was a firm believer in only using the best primes - Zeiss and Schneider. There's no way I'd ever consider a zoom. Having just purchased a RED Komodo, I wasn't in a place to buy a full set of cine primes. After months of agonizing over my options, I purchased this lens and the matching 18-55.
Wanting to get a feel for the quality differences, I tested all my still-primes against the pair of FUJIs. I used a Zeiss back-focus target and tested all the lenses at f5.6 under controlled lighting. I exported frames from Premier Pro after applying a standard DCI LUT.

I'm not an expert at optics and I'm still trying to get my head around R3D (RED's raw format) and LUTs, so all I can give is my subjective opinion, which is ...
Shockingly, the FUJI zooms looked as good as or better than the primes! It seems to me that the 50-135 did just a little bit better than the 18-55, but it really comes down to splitting hairs.

While I could still use by photo-primes (because I'm old-school like that), the zooms give me (obviously) more flexibility. These cine-lenses have a number of other advantages over my ZEs and Schneider PC/TS lenses:

No focus breathing. Some of my primes have a noticeable shift in focal length when when changing focus.
Then lens bodies don't move when zooming or focusing. There's no way to use a follow focus on my ZE 135 Sonnar, for example.
Marking are on the side of the lens not the top, which makes follow focus much easier.

In addition, the FUJI lenses are parfocal, which is super nice. Plus they have a facility for Macro that I haven't yet explored. Because these lenses are native RF (thanks to the smart folks at Duclos), you don't even need an adapter!
