The Cokin P Series 85A Balancing Filteris designed for use with a Cokin P Series Filter Holder. It is uniform in color and with a mired shift value of +112, can be applied to purposely create a warm cast over an entire image. This effect can be obtained under daylight when this filter is used on a film camera system with daylight film installed, or on a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected. The Cokin P Series 85A Light Balancing Filter is also useful for balancing light sources with a color temperature of 5500K for type A tungsten film, which is designed to accurately reproduce colors under 3400K light sources.

This filter is made of durable, optical resin (CR39). When used, the Cokin P Series 85A Light Balancing Filter's 0.2 density darkens the entire image by 0.6 stops. This reduction in exposure can be compensated for by adjusting the aperture setting of the lens it is placed on, or the shutter speed of the camera being used.

The greater the difference between the color temperatures they are designed to correct for over 3400K, light balancing filters for type A tungsten film are considered to be progressively stronger in their effect when used to add warmth to a daylight image.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with a 77mm Singh Ray LB Warming CPL?

A: The Cokin Z-Pro Filter Holder is meant for 4x6 and 4x4 filters and will not work with a 77mm filter.

Q: 2. It is MADE IN FRANCE?

A: As per our records, this product is made in France. Please note that this is subject to change at any time.

Q: 3. I am interested in purchasing good quality graduated ND and reverse grad ND filters for landscape photography, perhaps Singh-Ray or equivalent. I use a Canon 5D Mk III with EF 24-70, f/2.8 (82mm) and EF 70-200, f/2.8 (77mm) lenses. In the future, I may also purchase a wider angle prime lens (say 12-14mm) for landscape work. I would like to be able to mount the grad ND filters on these lenses but am not familiar at all with Cokin or any other holders. What would you advise about the type of adapters and holders I should be researching? Thank you.

A: I highly recommend Cokin filters. I have been using them for a long time. You need an adapter ring for your77mm lens. I have a 77mm lens and a 67mm lens. I also have a 67mm adapter for my 67mm lens. Cokinfilters are much cheaper then Sing-Ray and Lee filters. Good shooting.

Q: 4. What is the outside physical dimensions of the holder (D x W x H)? I plan to put it in a smallish camera bag for travel and want to know if it will fit.

A: 1 inch (D) x 4 and 3/4 inches (W) x 4 and 7/8 inches (H)

Q: 5. Can i use any 4 x 4 filter with this?

A: Filters 4x4 inches should work fine. I actually use it for filters that are 100mm x 150mm in size.

Q: 6. Well this be able to fit on Tamron 11-16mm without vignetting on a nikon d7000?

A: You would have to purchase the Cokin 77mm Z-PRO Adapter Ring (0.75mm Pitch Thread) B&H # COARZP77 to connect the Cokin Z-PRO Filter Holder to your Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens. With the above adapter ring, the holder would connect to your lens and you should not get vignetting with this setup.

Q: 7. I am trying to figure out how to add a polarizer to it. Do I need a special polarizer or additional adapter ring?

A: You would nee the Cokin polarizer for this filter holder, you can find it using this B&H part number: BH #COP164

Q: 8. I have a 24mm lens that and uses a 52mm ring. Do I need an adapter ring to attach this cokin filter holder to my lens?

A: This Cokin P series filter holder does not come with an adapter ring. You would need to purchase a 52mm adapter ring (B&H# COARP52) to use this filter holder on a lens that has a 52mm filter thread.

Q: 9. Will this holder produce vignetting with a Canon 17-40 lens on a full frame body?

A: No, you should not have an issue with using the Canon 17-40mm lens with the Cokin Z-PRO Filter Holder. The Canon 17-40mm uses 77mm filters, and would need the Cokin 77mm Z-PRO Adapter Ring (0.75mm Pitch Thread), B&H # COARZP77, to connect the adapter ring to the filter holder. The Cokin Z-PRO filter holder is large enough for lenses with 95mm filter threads, and would be large enough to prevent vignetting on the 17-40mm lens.

Q: 10. Will these hold the 85mm Format-Hitech filters? just curious since i have the Format hitech filters.

A: Yes this holder will work with the Formatt-Hitech 85mm filters which are the same size as the Cokin P filters.

[85A] Be sure to get the correct size, I needed medium holder, Cokin also has large filters, which, obviously will not fit in a medium holder

[85A] Rather than buy separate filters for all my lenses I decided to try the Cokin filter holder. It has three slots so you can easily stack filters. The adapter ring slides snugly into place(you must get a ring for each size lens). It is very well made and quite sturdy, I was somewhat skeptical at inexpensive price, but its perfect. Easy to use. Due to low cost I may just buy separate holder for all lens adapters so I can easily and quickly change lenses in the field rather than futz around with removing rings and filters, can just change lenses and slot in filters to new holder. I am very happy with my purchase.

[0.1 lb] My first p series holder I ordered from China. All my sq filters just slid out of the holder. I ordered a Coken holder from B&H now every thing fits great.

[0.1 lb] Had purchased a filter holder knock off of this product.I'll just say but the cokin holder and don't mess with anything else. I purchased a look alike at local camera store in a pinch. The plastic was deformed and hard to get filters in. But the real Cokin is straight and true.

[85A] Been using Cokin since the 80'sor 90's and they still work really well. Light weight, strong and work well. Only reason I got another one of these babies, is because my last one broke after badly packing them. Having said that it mended just fine with some Gorilla Super Glue! So now I have two and can use on both cameras!
