Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What kind of capsul comes with this mic? Its not shown in the In the Box tab in BH.

A: This version of the Audix SCX1 ships with a Hyper Cardioid capsule. A cardioid and omni directional capsule is also available, making this mix a great modular solution.

Q: 2. is there a warranty with this mic or do I need to purchase additional insurance with Allstate?

A: The manufacturer includes a Limited 2-Year Warranty.

Q: 3. Does it require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires 48V phantom power.

Q: 4. Does it require battery power or phantom power or it works without any power supply?

A: It requires phantom power.

Q: 6. Would this mic work ok for streaming? I'd like to not have the mic on screen and be able to move my head a little. Also would it pick up a lot of the speaker audio? I don't want to use headphones if I can get away with it.

A: I can't imagine a problem with streaming. As for picking up your monitor audio, that's a bit tricky to answer without seeing your recording space. I'm guessing that some noise reduction to reduce your monitor audio bouncing back and having the monitors behind the mic should result in a clean sound without picking up the monitors... but this would be true for any mic that's not omnidirectional. We use this mic at about 3 feet from two people talking and it's awesome... we don't use the monitor. If money's not a limiting factor, this mic also has different heads that support different patterns..

Q: 7. What is the difference between this M1250B microphone and the M1255B microphone?

A: The Audix M1250B and M1255B are effectively the same however the M1255B is more sensitive for distant miking purposes, whereas the M1250B is intended for close mic positions.

Q: 8. To keep out of my shot, how far away can this be placed from the subject? For a one person indoor interview.

A: The Audix SCX1-HC can be placed at around 5 feet away from the person talking, at the very most.

Q: 9. To synch sound to footage shot on a Canon DSLR would this mic work via a zoom recorder?

A: The Audix SCX1/HC Studio Condenser Microphone Kit is a good option for recording audio separately into a Zoom recorder. Sync will likely have to be done manually in editing as most DSLR cameras and some Zoom models do not offer timecode onboard. It is possible to record timecode as an audio track on each device, which can be decoded by certain editing softwares for sync, if you use a device such as the Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 to feed both the camera and recorder the same timecode: https://bhpho.to/3Lj6m8W

Q: 10. We have had two M1250B's for four years. Purchased to record the choir. Recently, the Music Director wants to amplify the choir a bit during Praise and Worship songs. However, the M1250Bs pick up a bunch of drums which sit 12 feet from the left mic and the drums are actually more predominate than the choir. Request advice? gev at Kirkmont Church

A: Move the drum kit if possible. If these mics are not ceiling mounted - you might try a few of these panels: ClearSonic S5-2 - 66 x 48 x 1.5 Double Section SORBER Baffle (Light Grey) with Handle. a href= http://bhpho.to/1AeFdcw target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1AeFdcw/a

[Mono] I am using this for an interior audio set-up on a boompole. The quality of the mic is great with a warm tone. I recommend purchasing with the kit to save money. The wood case is nice but I would've preferred a more durable Pelican style case which I ended up purchasing separately and leaving the wood case in storage.

[Solid-State] After doing a lot of research and really fretting over what the right solution would be for miking (mic'ing?) our small choir, I was convinced to give these mics a try after reading a couple of positive blogs and reviews. Was not disappointed - definitely a good solution when it comes to miking a choir.

[Black] Coming from using a Rode NTG2 as a dialog mic for short films, the Audix SCX1/HC is an amazing upgrade. Compared to the NTG2, it's night and day. This mic captures clear, almost noise-free dialog. Really all I can say is Wow! It is the real deal for professional quality voice recording. I can't imagine that I'd ever need to replace this with anything else. This is the first piece of video or audio hardware that's ever truly exceeded my high expectations!

[Phantom Power] I saw many reviews on YouTube and ended up with this. I'm pleased. I now use it for many indoor interview shoots. Indoors they're definitely better than lav or shotgun. The mic is so tiny I can easier carry it around. Quality wise, of course it can be better but at this price I'm not complaining.

[Hypercardioid] Compared to my Schoeps CMC-MK41, Audix sounds warmer (good for adding body to thin voice), signal is slightly stronger (less preamp needed = less noise), shorter (more ceiling room for boom work), 3 times cheaper, all good attributes.

[End Address] Just picked one up for our documentary work. Can't go wrong with this mic, fantastic for indoor dialogue. Excellent quality. Audix has great customer service too! Always nice to buy a local, US product too :)

[Solid-State] After reading about how some audio techs prefer a hypercardioid mic to a shotgun mic for interior audio, I did a bunch of research and decided to try out this mic. I have been using Rode NTG-2 mics for years and they have worked well. I tested out the SCX1 against the NTG-2 in a small room with a refrigerator running. I had the mics facing the fridge, parallel to the front and facing away from the fridge, etc. What I found was that even though the SCX1 was recording the background noise at a slightly higher level, because it was recording it at a lower range, it didn't sound as loud. Compared to the SCX1 the NTG was slightly tinny. I think overall it is a better mic and I will use is as my main mic, but if you are starting out, the NTG-2 isn't a bad one to start with, especially due to the cost. The SCX1 is portably the best value of the hypercardioids out there

[Phantom Power] I bought this after purchasing a Schoeps Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set and feeling underwhelmed for the sound to cost ratio. But the SCX1 really sounds fantastic for the price, as good as the Schoeps in my estimation for recording interviews.

[Mono] I needed a microphone when conducting indoor interviews. I researched many mics, and this Audix was mentioned several times in several forums. It may not be as popular as others, but it is a hidden gem. This mic does a great job indoors with it on a boom. Don't hesitate in buying this mic.

[Hypercardioid] I purchased this mic as an indoor dialog capture mic, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's sound is detailed, there's no problem with noise, and it captures voice in an honest and accurate way. My previous experience with voice mics is with large diaphragm condensers in vocal booths. This mic will pair well with world-class mics.
