Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does this ink expire?

A: Most ink packaging is dated, but a good rule of thumb that we propose is up to 2 years when stored in a cool, dry, and dark environment

Q: 2. Will T6069 cartridge work in the Epson 7800 9800?

A: No that cartridge will only fit the Epson 4800/4880

Q: 3. does this ink work with stylus pro 9800?

A: No, the Epson UltraChrome K3 Light Light Black Ink Cartridge (80 ml) is designed for the Epson Stylus Pro 3880. For the Stylus Pro 9800, you will need the Epson T603900 Light Light Black UltraChrome K3 Ink Cartridge (220 ml), B&H # EPLLBCU22788.

Q: 4. How do I calculate ink cost per print -- using epson SP 4900?For instance how many ml of ink for a full color 8X10 print?

A: Epson printers come with a built in feature that allows you to figure out exactly what each print job costs. Through the Job History feature, you can see exactly how much ink was used on a print job. The Job History stores the last ten jobs printed by the printer.

Q: 5. Do you8 have a recycle program for ink and toner cartridges?

A: Even though I usually buy these cartridges from B&H, I take my used ones to Staples for recycling. I get credit for them in the same way I do for ink cartridges I've bought from Staples. I find it easier to just take them in when I go for office supplies than to pack them up and ship them somewhere (like back to B&H). My guess is that other stores that take cartridges for recycling (e.g., Best Buy) would also take them.

Q: 6. Can the ink expire in the printer before a replacement is needed?

A: Technically, it is my understanding that you should not used expired inks. However, I have had some inks that had expired and I used them until they ran out. I would not start with expired inks however, it is not the best thing for the printer, clogging etc. The inks have a mind of their own.

Q: 7. This sounds dumb but I have heard that B&W printing uses some color inks in the mix. What inks should I keep in stock for B&W printing besides the obvious 4 blacks?

A: I would recommend to keep all 9 ink cartridges in stock. Just to be safe. Depending on the printer model, some printers will not print if a cartridge is empty.

Q: 8. How many prints can this set have?

A: That depends on a number of variables, not the least of which is the size of prints being produced. Unless you're frequently doing very large prints, the shelf life of the cartridge will be exceeded before you run out of ink. I've been very impressed with the number of prints possible with a set of cartridges, although I did have to replace the black cartridge earlier.

Q: 9. How long can the ink sit on the shelf before installing? Shorter question can the ink go bad or dry up before going into the printer and how long before it does so?

A: Shelf life is approximately 2 years. But I have used ink that has been outdated 4-5 years without any drying issues or degradation of quality. Once the cartridge has been opened, you should have at least a year before any type of quality issues start to occur.

Q: 10. I own an Epson Stylus Pro 4880, which has been working well since I bought it approximately 5 years ago. I am considering purchasing a new printer, and am considering the Epson p800. I also looked over the Epson 4900, which hasn't received very good reviews. I like the ability to print 17 x20, which both printers can do, and the print resolution is advertised as being the same on both models. I guess my question is why would I buy the more expensive 4900? What advantage does the 4900 offer that the P800 lacks?

A: Congratulations on making the 4880 work for you; I never could, but mine was used, and I never knew if it was really working correctly or not. But my P800 has worked better than I expected.I previously had a Chinese version of the 3880, which suited me well, but the P800 with the roll-paper feature is better for me and what I do. It's easier to set up and use than the 4880. Can't speak for the 4900.

[Light Black] Ultrachrome inks on the Epson Stylus Pro 4900 bring out the best in this extraordinary printer. I print large photographs for commercial sale, and I would never use anything but Epson professional papers and Ultrachrome inks.

[Light Black] I only buy OEM ink for my Epson printer. Buying from any other source makes no sense to me, when I am printing large prints. The supposed savings isn't worth it.
