The Shure VP64AL Omnidirectional Dynamic Microphonefrom Shure is a high-output omnidirectional handheld dynamic microphone designed for professional audio and video production. It combines exceptional performance and comfortable feel with a handsome on-camera appearance.

The VP64AL is well-suited to location interviews, sports broadcasting, and other situations where the 9 5/8" length is an advantage. The omnidirectional pickup pattern provides uniform pickup on or off axis, eliminating the need for critical microphone positioning. The VP64AL mic also features a tailored frequency response with an upper midrange presence rise that adds crispness and clarity to speech. The cartridge utilizes a neodymium magnet for higher output and increased signal-to-noise ratio.

The cartridge is housed in a rubber, rugged isolation mount that minimizes handling noise. It is protected by a water-resistant mesh that enables the microphone to be used during the most challenging weather conditions. For added wind and "pop" protection, use the supplied windscreen.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, would like to ask the circumference of the handle for this model? thanks

A: 3.925 circumference.

Q: 2. Will this work with the Azden 310XT UHF On-Camera Plug-In System?

A: no, the wireless transmitter doesn't supply the phantom power needed by the microphone.

Q: 3. I need an external mic for my Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder. The Canon tech support person said the mic had to have its own power supply. But this Shure VP64-AL says it needs no battery or Phantom power (whatever that is). So will this mic work with my camcorder?

A: This is a dynamic microphone, so it needs no external or battery power. What you will need is an adapter cable with attenuation to match the input on the camcorder:

Q: 4. For a Canon 70d I know I need a xlr to 3.5mm cable so the mic connects to my camera, But I was wondering which cable would I need to do that? There's so many options. Which xlr to 3.5mm cable should I get from this site. Thanks

A: The recommended cable adapter for DSLR connection is the Kopul LMT-100. This is an 18 cable adapter. To run the length from the mic to adapter would require a standard XLR mic cable. Available in lengths from 1 to 100 feet.

Q: 5. Can this mic work with the housing on a Canon XA11?

A: Yes, the handle on the Shure VP64A handheld microphone has a 19mm diameter which should fit into the microphone holder on the Canon XA11. If the mic holder is slightly larger than the mic's handle, you can use a rubber O-ring like the Sanken ROCS Rubber O-Rings for CS-1 (B&H # SAROCS) which come in a pack of 10 and will fill out the extra bit of space so the mic will fit securely. The VP64A.and Sanken CS-1 shotgun mic that the O-ring was designed for use with both have a 19mm diameter. As another option, you can try to make your own wedge using rubber bands, gaffer's tape or pieces of sponge to fill in the space and create a secure fit for the mic,

Q: 6. Will this work with an XLR terminal plug adapter using the un-terminated wires? Like with the Rolls XLM113 3-Pin XLR Male Termination Plug for Bare Wire Connection. I read it has 4 wires and not sure what the 4th wire is for.

A: It wont work as a push to talk function, however it may work as an always on.

Q: 7. What does the other end of the cable look like? Can I connect it to a laptop via USB? I want to pass voice from a classroom to a teacher on the other end of a Zoom call. Thanks.

A: There is NO connector: Unterminated Four-Conductor Cable

Q: 8. Hangup clip included??

A: No, there is no hang-up clip included with the Astatic 611L Palmheld Omnidirectional Dynamic Microphone.

Q: 9. Will this mic work with the nikon d5300?

A: Yes you can, you should not have a problem using this mic with a 1/8 in reducer and standard mic cord. Hope this helps.

Q: 10. Does this work with sennheiser ew100 g3?

A: Yes, the Shure VP64AL Omnidirectional Handheld Dynamic ENG Microphone can be used with the Sennheiser SKP 100 G3 Plug-On Transmitter for Dynamic Microphones that is included with the Sennheiser EW 100 ENG G3 Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System.

[0.84 lb] Using for news gathering in a school environment. Rugged enough for students, and economical. Light and compact; a nice addition to remote equipment package.

[Omnidirectional] I ordered this mic because it was a shure and it was the cheapest I could find. I assumed when I ordered it that it would be a good little mic that I will need to upgrade as soon as possible. I was blown away after making a few recordings and playing back the sound. I have used the mic for over a month and I am extremely satisfied. I have received a few compliments on the sound quality. I plug it directly into my handy cam and it works great for that.

[Omnidirectional] Forget your RE50/B's and get out of the '50s. Give up your hammers and get this one. Every bit as rugged, but better freq response, and contoured right at the speech points of the spectrum. Hears up to 20 KHz, +/- 3 db down to 80 Hz. No need for low cut filter. Speech is clear and fresh, like a spring brook.

[End Address] When I first used the SM63L microphone, I wasn't sure that I was using it properly... I plugged the adapter into my Canon 5D MKII and my Canon t3i and went on to record some interviews... when I played back on camera, all you hear is hissing... without wanting to research too much I will assume that the Canon won't playback stereo captured sound. BUT!!!... when I downloaded the video to my laptop for further review, I was immersed in sound... I honestly have to say that the sound over-shadowed my video without a doubt... If you are looking for a microphone that will deliver crisp, clear sound quality, even in the loudest environments (let's say Expos) this is the mic to get.

[Omnidirectional] Used this as a last minute replacement for one on one interviews in a convention center. Loud and noisy. The mic picked up everything uni-directional and even some off mic conversation which worked great when interviewing a group.
