Telecentric lenses are designed so that the light exiting the rear element is perpendicular to the sensor. Non-telecentric lens design allows the light to strike the sensor at an angle, which can lead to vignetting at the edge and corners of the sensor. The telecentric design minimizes vignetting.

This lens incorporates a port for a coaxial lighting device (not included). This setup enables you to illuminate the target area from the position of the lens itself, as opposed to setting up lights adjacent to your target.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I use this lens on a c300 Mark II there will be some crop correct? This lens is made for full frame camera?

A: The ZEISS CP.3 lenses - like the previous version CP.2 - are designed for full-frame cameras using 24x36mm sensor sizes. Since the camera in question uses an APS-C sensor of 13.8x24.6mm, it has an effective crop factor of 1.46x when using FF lenses.

Q: 2. I need a C-mount lens for Super 8 - requiring flange depth of 17.52mm - will these senses serve?

A: The flange depth for the Fujinon 1.5MP 9mm C Mount Lens with Anti-Shock & Anti-Vibration Technology for 2/3" Sensors is 17.52mm.

Q: 3. What’s the image stabilization like on these lenses? Is it harder to maintain a smooth shot in comparison to some other 35’s?

A: The Carl Zeiss CP.3 cinema lenses have no stabilization whatsoever.

Q: 4. Where is this lens manufactured?

A: This lens has a Country or Origin of Germany.

Q: 5. Can this lens be used in conjunction with the aida hd-100a camera body?

A: The AIDA HD-100a is a C/CS Mount camera. It should work well with this lens.

Q: 6. With a C-mount to m43 adaptor, can I use this lens on a Lumix g7? Thank you

A: While this lens could be adapted with an adapter it would not cover the sensor of a M4/3 camera and not be a desirable lens choice for a M4/3 camera. It would not really work properly with a M4/3 camera since it is designed for 1/2 inch sensor size cameras.

Q: 7. Can these be used with Bolex H16 Film Cameras?

A: The Fujinon 1.5MP 12.5mm C Mount Lens with Anti-Shock & Anti-Vibration Technology for 2/3" Sensors (B&H# FUHF12.5HA1S) is for use with standard C mount cameras. It could be used with the Bolex H16.

Q: 8. which one is better in terms of quality, this lens or Sony FE C 16-35mm T/3.1 G for vlogging ( i don't like changing lenses)?

A: A zeiss lens is superior to any Sony FE lens

Q: 9. Does this lens send metadata to bmpcc 4k?

A: The ZEISS CP.3 XD lenses transfer meta data using the Cooke /i Technology protocol. This is available only on select cameras using a PL mount. The BMPCC with MFT mount does not support the /i Technology protocol and neither does the standard ZEISS CP.3 EF mount lens. You could use the BM Ursa Mini Pro with PL mount along with the ZEISS CP.3 XD PL and then there would be a meta data exchange.

Q: 10. Can this lens be adapted for use for filmmaking on a camera like a Panasonic GH5 or BMPCC?

A: There are C-Mount to MFT Adapters available, such as BH #FOCMAMFT. However this lens does not cover an MFT sized sensor. In general this would not be recommend for use on those cameras.

[14.5 µm] I absolutely love the CP.3 lenses. The 85mm is an absolute Beauty. Having a compact, lightweight, well designed, and optically beautiful lens is a huge selling factor for me. I don't buy lenses that aren't build well and these are tanks. Zeiss did an incredible jobs redesigning these. I highly recommend. I use them on the Red Komodo and will soon try them out on the Red Raptor, although I know they will work great with it. Definitely a must buy or rent depending on your job or project. Worth every penny

[0.7" / 17mm] I've had this lens for a little over one year now and it's basically lived on my Sony FX9 and FX6 since the moment it arrived to my door. The Zeiss CP.3 35mm lens is the perfect size and weight to fit in my backpack for when I need to pack light but packs the same punch as any top of the line cinema lens.

The optics on this lens are just outstanding. Beautiful color renditions matched with a tack sharp image really help get any job done.

I couldn't recommend this lens, or any of the other CP.3 lenses, more. It will definitely always have its place in my kit.

[8.8 x 3.8 x 3"] I use these for barcode scanners in manufacturing lines and they do a great job.

[0.3x] We use these on our machine vision applications. Our customers are always concerned with reducing the cost of their fixture. The B&H price was a definite cost-savings as to purchasing a similar product through another company.

[8.8 x 3.8 x 3"] This lens is my bread and butter. For all of my client work I need something with a consistent look across the entire aperture range. Up until purchasing this lens my primary client glass was a sigma 24-70 2.8, which although beautiful, got soft when zoomed in to 50mm and under performed in other areas.

Aside from the performance of this lens, there are two things I adore: It's construction and color consistency. Despite being incredibly light, this lens is built like a tank. I travel frequently and it holds up very well. Because Zeiss improved the color rendition in the CP.3 line, I often rent the 85 or 100mm for my b-cam and have a easy time matching up cameras.

Much of my client work requires cropping in substantially (thanks Instagram) and I can comfortably shoot this at it's minimum aperture of T2.1 for a tack sharp image that can be scaled up in post.

I think this lens' greatest competition is the Canon CN-E line, which shoots warm and renders terrible onion skinning on the bokeh. For me this is unforgivable, and I'm happy to see a neutral, clean image coming from the CP.3 line. Assuming this is the look you need, I'm not sure you can get a better lens in this price bracket.
