A: I think the knob on the side is adjustable but may not fit snug onto the flash. However, I think that Sony sometimes may or may not conform to all standard hot shoe mount brackets. A: I easily fit my Nikon SB800 and SB900 within the hole. The assembly comes with a round mount that slips into the back. That round mount has a rectangular hole for the flash head. The round mount is 5 3/4 inches and the rectangular cutout is 4 1/2 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches tall. I have used this setup quite a bit and it really works well as long as your flash head fits within those dimensions.
