Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the smallest possible length this boom arm can be broken down into, including is pieces if necessary?

A: The Boom Arms minimum length is 48 from the post to the counter weight hook at the rear. This is a very heavy unit and I would recommend that it be supported by a very sturdy stand.

Q: 2. does this stand up straight as well?

A: Yes, the Impact 86" Boom Arm is able to be pointed straight up.

Q: 3. Is the bottom connection hole 5/8 or 3/8? To connect it to another stand underneath

A: The boom has a 5/8" receiver and is an ideal match for heavy duty wheeled stands like Impact's LSP-SW10 9.5' Steel Roller.

Q: 4. Will this support an Aputure 600x?

A: Yes. The following boom arm will support a payload of 8lbs fully extended at 86 inches.

Q: 5. Regarding load capacity at maximum extension - Does that include the weight of a counterweight? Can I put on an 8lbs light fixture plus the needed counterweight?

A: The following unit will support 8lbs at max extension. The unit does not come enclosed with a counter weight Please look into one of the following counterweights that will adapt to the system https://bhpho.to/3nwM5ns

Q: 6. Suggested use shows this being used at only a short distance. When using at longer distances, would this be better used in a combo stand? Can you recommend one?

A: A combo stand such as the Matthews Hollywood Combo Double Riser Stand (Silver, 11.3'), BH # MALSCHWD would work well with this boom at longer distances. https://bhpho.to/3agUns6

Q: 7. How much weight can this boom arm support with some extension and inclination? I would like to lift an Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 light and a light modifier above my subject's head and would like to know if this boom arm can support the light whilst inclined and extended. Thanks!

A: If you ad a weight to the back of the boom arm, it should hold the light.

Q: 8. Can I change the spigot on this boom?

A: Its not user replaceable

Q: 9. Will this boom work with a Impact Heavy-Duty Air-Cushioned Light Stand (Black, 9.5')?

A: You shouldn't have have any issues.. Given the stand has a max weight of 22lbs, I would absolutely have a couple of sandbags on the legs..

Q: 10. Does the baby pin receiver fit into a junior receiver on a combo stand? It looks like it should but isn’t mentioned in the specs.

A: Yes the outer portion of the receiver on this boom will fit a junior receiver.

[Chrome ] It's just the right length for my application. I have a tight working area for audio. I have the boom on a microphone stand behind the rack and it comes through from the back, so that the microphone is positioned directly over the mixer. Plenty of adjustments make it fit almost any application.

[3/8"-16 Male] Working as gaffer, I often need to boom out lights overhead to be able to get wide shots. I had a shoot where I needed to boom an Aputure 120dII with lantern attachment over a kitchen table and this thing worked great. I paired it with a Kupo Master Combo Stand and a number of sandbags and it got the job done. If needing to boom something really far away this won't cut it, you'll need to a Menace Arm, but for small to medium size spaces where you need wide shots and lights out of frame, definitely pick this up. All connections are sturdy too, well built steel, get it.

[34 x 3 x 2"] This is a very good boom arm that I have screwed on top of my light stand for podcasts. Super high quality with loads of good features.

Pros:
+ Pretty solid friction force. So good that I didn't even have to put a counter-weight on my stand.
+ Easy to use knobs for rotation and extension.
+ Clip for holding xlr cables
+ High-quality build

Cons
- Definitely a shorter arm

I've been using this for a few months at this point and it has not disappointed. I highly recommend this product.

[34 x 3 x 2"] As a studio owner I already own a lot of boom mic stands. Over time some of the booms go bad while the main shaft remains fine. Why replace the entire stand when you can just get a high quality boom replacement for less than half the price. Love it! These are really great. I was embarrassed a few times by my old mic stands drooping with a heavy condenser mic during a session. Now I don't have to worry that. This model boom arm holds firm. I'm happy and will be getting some more.

[3/8"-16 Male] This replaced a boom arm, made by another company, that failed when the threads stripped that secure the telescope arms. This one has considerably more thread surface and better knobs to turn so I expect it will last much longer. This is a very high quality product.

[Steel] I use these on tall stands, short stands, round base stands (Atlas bases lol) and I love it on all of them. The extra leverage from the bar for the tilt adjustment allows for very tight holds on larger microphones. looks very professional and no complaints from musicians about impotent stands! Get this...

[Chrome ] This is a fantastic telescoping boom arm, suitable for all needs. Made in Germany, built to last. Replaces Onstage arms that just aren't anywhere near as nice. The nickel version of this K&M arm is ridiculously hard to find, though! So props to B&H for carrying this item. I use these short telescoping arms for my Atlas round base stands, and I was afraid that I would have to get black arms for my chrome stand. Atlas chrome and K&M nickel aren't exactly a match, but they match enough. Very happy with this product.
