Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the bottom connection hole 5/8 or 3/8? To connect it to another stand underneath

A: The boom has a 5/8" receiver and is an ideal match for heavy duty wheeled stands like Impact's LSP-SW10 9.5' Steel Roller.

Q: 2. Can I change the spigot on this boom?

A: Its not user replaceable

Q: 3. Does this boom come with counter weight ? If so, what type ?

A: The LATCH LAKE RB2200 micKing RetroBoom Telescoping Boom Arm features a 7 LBS counterweight.

Q: 4. Can you attach a camera to the end of this boom arm?

A: Not as it comes, but there might be adapters for that.

Q: 5. Does the baby pin receiver fit into a junior receiver on a combo stand? It looks like it should but isn’t mentioned in the specs.

A: Yes the outer portion of the receiver on this boom will fit a junior receiver.

Q: 6. Need some help. What is the diameter of this boom shaft. Can this boom be used with the Manfrotto 123 Pivoting Boom Clamp as it holds if the boom shaft diameter is more than 35mm? Thanks

A: According to Impact, the main tube has a diameter of 30.5mm and the inner riser would measure 25mm in diameter. Unfortunately, the boom clamp is not removable on this arm so not other clamp can be used with it.

Q: 7. Regarding load capacity at maximum extension - Does that include the weight of a counterweight? Can I put on an 8lbs light fixture plus the needed counterweight?

A: The following unit will support 8lbs at max extension. The unit does not come enclosed with a counter weight Please look into one of the following counterweights that will adapt to the system https://bhpho.to/3nwM5ns

Q: 8. How much weight can this boom arm support with some extension and inclination? I would like to lift an Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 light and a light modifier above my subject's head and would like to know if this boom arm can support the light whilst inclined and extended. Thanks!

A: If you ad a weight to the back of the boom arm, it should hold the light.

Q: 9. Can or how can I attach a DSLR on this?

A: Not directly. You'll need some kind of adapter from the 5/8 fitting to perhaps some kind of quick release adapter like Arca-swiss. Talk to the folks at Hejnar Photo they make a lot of fit-this-to-that type of adapters.

Q: 10. What is the smallest possible length this boom arm can be broken down into, including is pieces if necessary?

A: The Boom Arms minimum length is 48 from the post to the counter weight hook at the rear. This is a very heavy unit and I would recommend that it be supported by a very sturdy stand.

[Chrome ] This is a very good boom arm that I have screwed on top of my light stand for podcasts. Super high quality with loads of good features.

Pros:
+ Pretty solid friction force. So good that I didn't even have to put a counter-weight on my stand.
+ Easy to use knobs for rotation and extension.
+ Clip for holding xlr cables
+ High-quality build

Cons
- Definitely a shorter arm

I've been using this for a few months at this point and it has not disappointed. I highly recommend this product.

[5/8"-27 Male] I use a mic stand with a boom for performing folk/country music with a band and solo. I have used many cheap stands in the past, and there are always issues with them. This stand and boom are very high quality and appear to be built to last. The boom is the perfect size and telescopes in to a very short length for transport. So far, I have not seen anything negative about this boom.

[5/8"-27 Male] I tend to make films on the go, so I attach this to a small backpack or in a suitcase. It is lightweight and does the trick. No, it is not indestructible and has plastic knobs...but it also weighs nothing and can hold a Sennheiser Mkh-416 (for example) with no problem.

[Chrome ] Industry standard. Who am I to argue with that?

[Steel] As a studio owner I already own a lot of boom mic stands. Over time some of the booms go bad while the main shaft remains fine. Why replace the entire stand when you can just get a high quality boom replacement for less than half the price. Love it! These are really great. I was embarrassed a few times by my old mic stands drooping with a heavy condenser mic during a session. Now I don't have to worry that. This model boom arm holds firm. I'm happy and will be getting some more.

[Chrome ] This is a quality boom arm you can depend on. Other lower priced boom arms tend to droop over time with heavier mics like the RE20, Stam SA87, or Rode K2. This one won't. There is a competing On-Stage all steel boom arm that seems just as good for a lower price but the long term durability remains to be seen. This one I trust with my most expensive mics (Neumann and Brauner) for now.

[1.6 lb] Latch Lake is simply the best. You should be aware however that if you order this arm to be mounted on a non-Latch Lake stand, you will need to also purchase the "thread extender." It will be useless without it.
