The US‑16‑XG offers the forwarding capacity to simultaneously process traffic on all ports at line rate without any packet loss. The total non-blocking throughput is up to 160 Gbps.

The US‑16‑XG offers maximum performance and low latency as an aggregation switch.

For fiber connectivity, it features 12 SFP+ ports. For copper connectivity, the US‑16‑XG offers four RJ-45 ports that support 10GBASE-T, the standard for 10 Gbps connections using Cat6 (or higher) cabling and RJ-45 connectors.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How many of the 16-port switch's ports support PoE+?

A: All ports *support* PoE+ but I suspect that's not what you're asking. The max per-port power is 34.2W and the max *shared* power is 150W so you could in theory be limited to 4 usable ports if your individual devices were drawing 34W. In the real world you'll need to account for the actual peak power draw of each PoE+ device. PoE+ is 15W+ (otherwise it's just PoE) so with the most *minimal* PoE+ devices drawing 15W+ you might be able to use 9 or 10. If you want to fully load the switch with power hungry devices then you probably want one of the 24-port switches with more available power.

Q: 2. Can anyone comment on the fan noise? My last 10 GbE D-Link switch sounded like a 747! Thanks...

A: As a whole all the Ubiquiti switches are quiet.

Q: 3. Can we aggregate several devices with 2x 10GBe each?

A: This is what we use this for. We have three USW-48P-500W with both of their SPF+ ports LAG uplinked to the ES-16-XG.

Q: 4. Will this switch permit backwards operation to 2.5g and 1g on each port like some of the newer switches?

A: This switch is specific to the SFP+ standard which is not backward compatible.

Q: 5. Will this device power 8 POE+ ports at 15w each? Or only 3 b/c it’s 45w power budget? If 3, which device will power 8 x 15w?

A: That is correct, the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 16-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch (BH #UBSLITE16POE) supports three RJ45 ports at 15W simultaneously. For your use case, the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch Enterprise 8 8-Port 2.5Gb PoE+ Compliant Managed Network Switch with SFP+ (BH #UBUSWENPRS8P) would be a good alternative to consider, as it can output 15W of power from 8 of it's RJ45 ports simultaneously.

Q: 6. Will this work with 1.25/1.063 Gbps Bi-Directional transceivers ?

A: The USW-AGGREGATION is recommended for use with 10Gbps SFP+ transceivers. Support for 1.25 Gbps SFP transceivers has been reported by some users, but not officially recommended by Ubiquiti.

Q: 7. Is secondary power supply available?

A: No, the Ubiquiti Networks Switch Enterprise XG 24 24-Port 10G Managed Network Switch with 25G SFP28 does not support the option for a secondary internal power supply.

Q: 8. Can I get/use this switch out of USA? Is there any limitations/Restrictions? Voltage and cord type ??

A: As others have said it is,100-240VAC/50-60 Hz with a universal power cord input.

Q: 9. What is the difference between the us-16-xg and the es-16-xg? I've read that the hardware is the same, just different software (unifi controller?)? If that is case and I'm running a UDM Pro, the software is already there, right? Which in that case, this switch would be the better bang for buck of the ES model?

A: The ES model is the EdgeSwitch, which does not come with Unifi software built in.

Q: 10. How noisy is this switch?

A: This switch is super quiet.

[238.1 Mpps] I wanted to upgrade my home network to include 10gig connections between a couple computers and a server. The server is where I store 4K footage, photos, backups and media for a local media server. Since I recently purchased the UDM Pro, this switch seemed to be the best suited device.

Managing this switch through UniFi Controller in the UDMP made setting it up a breeze. I don't really have a lot to mention on this switch, it does what it's supposed to do. I used a UniFi DAC cable to connect the switch to the UDMP. I'm getting full throttle speeds between my computers and the server now! Seeing files transfer to and from the server as fast as they do is an amazing feeling.

[238.1 Mpps] I love the switch, it's working great, unbelievable low price. I have seen reports of bad build/shipping package, my switch arrived in perfect condition. I had a few issues getting it setup with LACP on the 20gb up-link. Turns out you need to configure LACP on the down-stream device and then on the up-stream or you lose connectivity (duh). Instructions on how to configure an initial IP address over serial are non-existent in the package, but google had instructions that worked great, wish the serial console interface was nicer. I haven't got enough gear to do real performance testing of the switch, but the price was cheaper than a single 10gb transciever (with 4 SFP+ modules included), for 10GB SFP+ to 10GB-baseT. I am able to use it as a 2-port LACP transceiver between my FreeBSD server (Intel XeonD SOC 10gb-baseT) and my EdgeSwitch PoE+, and I get additional 10G SFP+ and BaseT ports for any future 10G gear.

[Yes] I bought this to add more core switching capacity to my home network to support several iMac Pros and aggregate other switches. Works great with the iMac Pros built-in 10Gbit copper ports and it passes traffic at full 10Gbit line rate between two Macs and to/from a Synology NAS when using jumbo frames. In addition to inexpensive fiber transceivers the open SFP+ ports can also support NBase-T copper (2.5/5/10Gbit) by adding $50 SFP+ modules (the S+RJ10) from Mikrotik.

[Internal] Fiber, DAC, or Ethernet 10 G connections makes internal large transfers a snap. Multi-gigabyte 4K video files transfer to backup so fast now it's almost unbelievable.

[238.1 Mpps] Ubnt offers a great 10 Gbps switch cheap compared to the RJ45 Netgear which easily stats around $1,500 for the same amount of ports. So far the switch has been great and I would recommend this switch to anyone looking for a great 10 Gbps switch.

[Yes] This is the cheapest SFP+ switch (but reliable) I could find for my homelab. Many others are more expensive. After reading reviews on the Mikrotik SFP+ options I decided to stay with Unifi since I already had many Ubiquiti Ethernet switches and a controller in place. I am also connecting this to a Unifi 24-port via 1-Gb SFP as a link and connecting to my core switch via 10GbE over CAT6. Core switch is an FS.COM unit with a 10GbE Ethernet transceiver. No issues negotiating to 10GbE. The CAT6 cable run is probably under 50 feet. I am also using old Finisar transceivers without issue, but have not tried DAC cables yet.

However, if you do not have a Unifi Controller in place perhaps wait for the new QNAP managed combo switches coming out. It will be a lot simpler. Or you can get the more expensive EdgeSwitch ES-16-XG.

[Yes] This is the 'hub' to our hub-and-spoke network configuration, with our servers connected via copper to the 10GB ports, and 10 of the 48-port Unifi POE switches connected throughout out building using Multimode fiber. Love the management software and the easy configuration. Don't think you can go wrong for the price.
