A: Yes you can use the Vello Universal Hot Shoe Adapter for PC Connection B&H # VEHSAPCU in order to sync these monolights with a Canon EOS Rebel T3. Additionally, you may also want to purchase a light meter to help measure the output of these monolights. It can be connected with the same sync cable. Q: 2. Does dimming this using an inline dimmer cause an audible hum? I'm trying to get new lights that don't do that. I know I can use scrims too, but I'd like the flexibility if possible. Thanks!

A: You're missing the point of these lamps. If you want to dim it, the best thing is the scrims. They are very effective. In addition, if you are opposed to using scrims for some reason, you have the option of pulling the bulb back. If you need more focus than when it is flooding, you can use barn doors, which you probably want any way. Finally, you can also use a 300W bulb instead of a 650W.

Q: 3. Will this strobe work with 3rd party modifiers, or only the supplied softboxes?

A: That model strobe uses the Elinchrom mount also called EX. There are a few different manufactures that make modifiers with that mount, Elinchrom, Impact and Interfit. Note to be careful when picking it out that it is the correct mount. Impact and Interfit make different mounts not just EX.

A: Strobe lights are typically daylight-balanced. You would either use the daylight-balanced or flash-balanced white balance preset on your camera, or you would use the Custom White Balance setting to set a custom white balance. Auto White Balance is not recommended for strobe usage.

Q: 7. What gels can I clip on to the barn doors in order to play with the colors? The gels I already own started warping, so I took them off the barn doors.

A: You can use Lee or Rosco gels but don't keep the gels too close to the light.

Q: 8. I have set this up and use an on-camera flash to trip the two lights BUT I am NOT able to vary the output of the flash. I dial from full to 1/8 but only the modeling light varies in intensity. Am I doing something wrong?Lucian

A: Just to be sure - when reducing flash power, you must dump the flash first and then measure power. This means if the flash is at full power and you reduce it to an 1/8, you must first fire a flash to dump the power out of the flash capacitors and reduce their charge to an 1/8 and then measure your flash output. If the flash remains at full for a 3rd and 4th shot, then it may be faulty.

A: It is a Tungsten light 3200K.

A: 3200 Kelvin, or basic Tungsten. You can add color temperature gels to change it, which is what I did.
