AJA 12GM 12G-SDI Muxer/DeMuxeris an SDI standard converter. Resolutions up to DCI 4K are supported, so Quad 3G-SDI can be converted into 12G and vice-versa. Multi-link signals can now be combined to run over fewer cables, and newer standards can now be backward compatible with legacy SDI gear. All signals are re-clocked and amplified to ensure signal integrity over long cable runs.

A: For monitoring you can connect this to a network and from there use an HTTP web browswer for control and monitoring.

A: Normally, 12G-SDI gear is backwards compatible with 3G-SDI & 6G-SDI, but AJA specifically designed other matrix switchers for that purpose, as follows: For 12G-SDI, look to KUMO 6464-12G for 64x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs, KUMO 3232-12G for 32x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs or KUMO 1616-12G for 16x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs. For 3G-SDI, KUMO 6464 offers 64x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs, KUMO 3232 has 32x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs, KUMO 1616 has 16x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs and KUMO 1604 provides 16x 3G-SDI inputs and 4x 3G-SDI outputs.

Q: 3. Will this pass BMD camera control data?

A: Yes, the AJA KUMO 6464-12G Compact 12G-SDI Router (4 RU) will carry camera control data.

A: This unit does not have scaling built in. All Resolutions and Frame Rates need to match before it reaches the Kumo 3232 Router.

A: Yes, the AJA 12GM 12G-SDI to/from SDI Muxer/DeMuxer can be configured as a 1x4 distribution amplifier.

Q: 6. Does the AJA Kumo 1616 support 1080i50 input & output?

A: No, this does not support 1080i50. It gets close but no cigar.

Q: 7. Disregarding price, why would you get this vs a BMD Videohub or visa versa? Thanks!

A: How many inputs and outputs you need would be a big factor. This is a 32x32 12G-SDI option. BH #BLSVH12G4040 is a 40x40 12G-SDI option.

Q: 8. Does this unit switch between salvos without a glitch?

A: It does not. This is not a clean switch.

Q: 9. Does AJA Hi5-12G 12G-SDI to HDIMI 2.0 Mini Converter support Dolby Vision?

A: AJA does have plans to release a future firmware update supporting Dolby Vision for the AJA Hi5-12G 12G-SDI to HDMI 2.0 Mini-Converter, but unfortunately it hasn't been released yet.

Q: 10. In a studio situation where we may be using a Blackmagic switcher on some days, and a Convergent Design Apollo on others...would this make swapping cameras between switchers easier?

[1 x USB mini-B] Basically in this price range it comes down to AJA or BlackMagic, I've worked with both & knowing that AJA tends to be a bit pricier, I 100% prefer the KUMO over the BMD 20x20 or 40x40 Physically the SDI connectors are spaced well versus BlackMagic, even with all connections loaded up I can quickly adjust by hand without the need of a trompeter if the situation arises. The Kumo is also way thinner & operates at a much lower temp, giving me a little peace of mind if I need to spec a quick fly pack that has less than optimal ventilation. The web UI is great & the unit saves all your settings independently of what computer you are using over the network. I know I can prep the KUMO for a gig, send it out & all my button mapping & labels will not change no matter who is looking at it or what computer they are using (unlike the BMD which is a session based setting via saved XML file). Basically its a solid router, if you can afford it & it has the # of ins/outs ya need. You can't go wrong. 5

[1 x USB mini-B] great compact switcher, the web gui is fantastic- it's not needed to be rebooted or have I had a loss of control in any way. very clean switching with an option for redundant power. If I need another, I'd chose this again without hesitation. 5

[8/10-bit] We use this to convert a presentation podium DisplayPort output to SDI. The SDI signal is routed to a video switcher. Love the high resolution, really an improvement to have all SDI, rather than good old composite video. Had to download the AJA mini-config software to set up the way we wanted, but that went well. 5

[8/10-bit] The signal quality out of the T-Tap pro is outstanding -- nice to not worry about Quicktime playback gamma issues anymore. And Aja tech support is second to none. Just like a pro device should be. One thing to note is that playback through the T-Tap pro must be via compatible software e.g, Adobe Premier, or by using the Aja Control Room player software. This is not like having a another monitor on your Mac -- you can not stream videos from Safari through it or simply use the Quicktime player app with it. 5
