The ATEN Portable USB Console Laptop Adapterlets you directly connect your laptop to servers, desktops, kiosks, ATMs, and other systems, so you can perform system upgrades or repairs. The adapter connects to a laptop via an included USB cable and has integrated VGA and USB 2.0 Type-A cables for the host system. The adapter offers BIOS-level access, bi-directional file transfers, hotkey macros, video recording, and onscreen capturing. In addition, it supports resolutions of up to 1920 x 1200 and draws power from a bus-powered USB port.

For easy operation and quick remote access, the adapter comes with useful functions that provide file applications, OS patching, diagnostic testing, and software installations through an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI). To view the target computer's desktop without using a scroll bar, you can automatically or manually resize the GUI console's window to the resolution of the remote computer. There's also a built-in cable clip for managing cables while in-use or during transport.

The 40AY0090US can support up to 3 external displays, 2 x 4K @60Hz and 1 x 4K @ 60 Hz. The "quality" is similar but the 40AY0090US will not work with systems that do not have USB Type C like the 40AF0135US which can work with both USB A and Type C systems.

[0.54 lb] We purchased these because we often need to console a system in the field and console using the lights out management interface isn't reliable. With this KVM Console we can use our laptops to access the console on our systems in the field instead of configuring remote console over Ethernet and relying on out of band management to access our system consoles. 5

[0.54 lb] This is plug-and-play: it worked right out of the box on my Mac, and also on a Windows-based laptop I use for another job, connecting to my Sony FX6. I had to figure out, through trial and error, that the frame rate I send out of the camera must be 29.97 in order for the computer to understand the signal. But once I had that sorted, I wound up with an image far superior to my webcam. 5

[Yes] This device is one of the best gadgets I've ever bought. I used to connect to servers using standard monitor, mouse and keyboard. No more messing with vga/power cables to get monitor working. This device saved me already lots of time that I would otherwise waste on finding, connecting and moving monitor. 5

[Yes] This is a great tool. You do want to be sure to get the correct drivers; notecons01 and notecons02 are different. Also, a note to Startech: it's hard to find this in the list of KVM switches. This really could use its own category. 5
