Designed for 4K, 6K, and 8K productions, this 4-stop, 6.6 x 6.6" Schneider RHOdium ND Filter 6.6x6.6" 4-Stopfeatures a 16x filter factor that provides a 4-stop exposure reduction. It helps you control IR contamination within the full visible and into the near infra-red spectrum. The neutral density material is sandwiched between two layers of white water glass, which prevents subtle color shifts that can occur with regular ND filters.

With the ND material sandwiched between glass it is protected from being affected by cleaning and polishing of the outside filter glass, which makes it an excellent choice whether you are a rental house or owner/operator. RHOdium Full Spectrum ND filters are the first to be tested using a tristimulus scan, which is a more critical color measurement method than previously used.

  • 1.2 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to shoot with a wider f/stop for shallower depth of field.
  • Filter does not affect coloration of the image and is ideal for use with other filters.
  • Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased IR passing relative to visible light.
  • Constructed from Schott water-white glass for increased optical clarity.
  • Padded pouch included for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What material is it made out of?

A: The ring is made of brass.

Q: 2. Will the lens hood of the Sony 70-200 GMII fit with this filter installed?

A: The Schneider True-Match Vari-ND MKII Variable Neutral Density Filter (77mm) front threads are 77mm. Since the filter does not expand in the front ring, you can keep the lens hood on the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Lens attached.

Q: 3. Is this filter fit with fujinon 35mm lense?

A: There are several Fujinon 35mm lenses listed here on B&H and none of them seem to have a 43mm filter size. However, it could simply be that your lens isn't for sale here. Without more information on the lens this question cannot be answered. Can you provide more information about exactly which model of 35mm Fujinon lens you have?

Q: 4. Hi there! Does this filter have hard stops or does it rotate full 360? Thanks!

A: The B+W Tru-Match Vari-ND MK III Variable Neutral Density Filter does not have hard stops. The markings on the ring are merely reference points of how light or dark the filter will become when turning the ring.

Q: 5. Does this filter have hard stops?

A: Not for the intermediary stops.

Q: 6. Can two of the Hoya 49mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 be stacked for additional density?

A: Yes you could... but I would not. That is extra glass surface to catch light and cause distortion and reflection. If this was an expensive lens with perfect coatings... what I caution you on would not be an issue. I would not.

Q: 7. How does it compare to B+W Vario ND 1-5? What is the front size? B+W's front size is designed at 86mm for less vignette. Even so, I did find vigenette at 24mm on my 24-105 lens. How about the color shifting? B+W is shifting green on 1-3 stops.

A: The front filter thread of this filter is 82mm. Most filters will begin to vignette to some degree at 24mm. Color shift is nearly always present when using variable ND filters, but how much varies between filters.

Q: 8. What Filter Thickness is? 2 or 4 mm?

A: The Schneider 4 x 5.65" RHOdium Full Spectrum Neutral Density filters are 4mm thick.

Q: 9. What's the weight of the filter Could it be used instead of the balancing ring needed for the X5S?(drone proposes).

A: Unfortunately we cannot weight any products here and the manufacturers do not provide the weight of lens filters. It may be best to ask your question on the drone Q&A itself, but we would guess that it is the same weight and could be used as a balancing ring if necessary--though it is not an exact measurement.

Q: 10. The overview for this Variable ND filter states that the effect is achieved by "...stacking highly neutral gray polarizing filters..." If so, will this filter also work as a good polarizing filter? I need a polarizer + ND filter for waterfall photography, so I was wondering whether a separate polarizing filter is needed in combination with this filter.

A: The Schneider True-Match Vari-ND MKII Variable Neutral Density Filter (82mm) does not act as a Polarizing Filter. A separate Polarizing Filter is necessary to get the Polarizing effect.

[0.835 lb] Pros: There isn't any color shift with RHOdium ND filters.

Cons: Very expensive

Outcome: I will never use another type of ND again. Doesn't matter the grade. Also, I never thought I would be a neutral density fan boy. Now I am because these are just way too good.

[0.835 lb] BMPCC 4K, Tilta Cage, Speedbooster 0.64, Sigma 18-35, Tilta Mini Matte Box, Schneider Neutral Density (ND) 1.2 Filter (4 x 5.65), PortKeys BM5 Monitor. Rode NTG, Tilta Mini Follow Focus, ProRes HQ, FCPX, Resolve 16. The results have been stunning. Your mileage may vary. Depending on your skill set.

[0.835 lb] I’m building my kit up and went back and forth about buying the 7 stop filter. I’m currently shooting a lot of buildings for a project and need to cut a lot of light. Previously Ive used Tiffens, and there’s nothing wrong with them, but blacks in the image are a lot cleaner. After using this filter for few weeks I’m glad it’s in my kit

[0.835 lb] Use these amazing Full spectrum NDs with my RED GEMINI and you can see the difference when compared to cheaper ND, variable NDs and other premium NDs. Build quality is amazing. These are not dyed NDs so the colour cast is non existent. Invest in the best and you will save time and money in the long run.
