$2,346.30 $2,885.95

Designed for 4K, 6K, and 8K productions, this 7-stop, 6.6 x 6.6" Schneider RHOdium ND Filter 7-Stop 6.6x6.6"features a 128x filter factor that provides a 7-stop exposure reduction. It helps you control IR contamination within the full visible and into the near infra-red spectrum. The neutral density material is sandwiched between two layers of white water glass, which prevents subtle color shifts that can occur with regular ND filters.

With the ND material sandwiched between glass it is protected from being affected by cleaning and polishing of the outside filter glass, which makes it an excellent choice whether you are a rental house or owner/operator. RHOdium Full Spectrum ND filters are the first to be tested using a tristimulus scan, which is a more critical color measurement method than previously used.

  • 2.1 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to shoot with a wider f/stop for shallower depth of field.
  • Filter does not affect coloration of the image and is ideal for use with other filters.
  • Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased IR passing relative to visible light.
  • Constructed from Schott water-white glass for increased optical clarity.
  • Padded pouch included for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How significant is the benefit of the extra cost multicoating on the BW neutral density filter (3 stop version, 58mm) An extra expense I can avoid?

A: I think it is money well spent. As you know filters tend to get dirty fast so I'm cleaning them a lot. I've had the cheaper ones and I've noticed hair line scratches from wiping over an extended period of time.Good luck.Bart W

Q: 2. How much does the filter weigh?

A: I don't have the means to weigh the filter directly. I does not weigh more than any other of the B&W filters in this particular mount. You can go to the manufacturer website for this exact product and ask the weight question. B&W Photo does not permit inserting outside links, so do a Google Search on Schneider Optics, once on the website, copy and paste the manufacturer's part number that B&H Photo includes, that will give you the specifics on this product. Then you will have links to ask the weight question of an associate. I hope this helps.

Q: 3. The overview for this Variable ND filter states that the effect is achieved by "...stacking highly neutral gray polarizing filters..." If so, will this filter also work as a good polarizing filter? I need a polarizer + ND filter for waterfall photography, so I was wondering whether a separate polarizing filter is needed in combination with this filter.

A: The Schneider True-Match Vari-ND MKII Variable Neutral Density Filter (82mm) does not act as a Polarizing Filter. A separate Polarizing Filter is necessary to get the Polarizing effect.

Q: 4. Can the Hoya ND filters be stacked?

A: Yes. But be mindful that the following units stacked can cause vignette issues depending on lens being used.

Q: 5. How are these piece of glass shipped? I want to know how secured are they when it comes to shipping as I have never seen anyone do an unboxing video on filters like these. I'm afraid it might get broken in transit among other things.

A: The filter is stored in a Schneider's Padded Filter Pouch.

Q: 6. Does this filter have hard stops?

A: Not for the intermediary stops.

Q: 7. Does the front thread turn when adjusting the ND level or stay static?

A: Yes, the front ring rotates when adjusting ND on the Schneider True-Match Vari-ND MKII Variable Neutral Density Filter (82mm).

Q: 8. Is this recommended for digital cameras?

A: The Hoya 72mm Neutral Density (ND) 0.3 Hoya Multi-Coated (HMC) Glass Filter is recommended for both digital and film cameras. Hoya's Pro Digital line of filters are slimmer but still have threading on both sides of the filter. Ultra-thin filter frames help to avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses while the front threads mean they will also hold a lens cap. HMC filters feature a 3 layer multi-coating while their Pro Digital line's multi-coating is optimized for use with digital sensors.

Q: 9. Can two of the Hoya 49mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 be stacked for additional density?

A: Yes you could... but I would not. That is extra glass surface to catch light and cause distortion and reflection. If this was an expensive lens with perfect coatings... what I caution you on would not be an issue. I would not.

Q: 10. what is difference between this and Hoya 77mm NDx400 HMC Filter B&H # HOND400MC77 MFR # A77ND400 (https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/155266-REG/Hoya_A77ND400_77_mm_Neutral_Density.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/155266-REG/Hoya_A77ND400_77_mm_Neutral_Density.html/a) ?

A: The Hoya ND4 only loses two stops of light, while the ND400 loses around 9 stops. The ND400 is a darker density that the ND4.

[0.835 lb] I have been using a different brand of NDs for years but I am not sure I would go back. These are solid, clean, and consistent.

[Glass] for a ND without IR control is the best you can get. Almost impossible to see any magenta cast when paired with F55 internal NDs, Schneider Xenon and Leica M lenses. Im' very happy with the purchase.

[0.835 lb] I was debating which set of glass to go with and decided on Schneider rather than NiSi; I have a few friends who said Schneider was/is the industry standard.

So far I can’t disagree. The glass itself is solid and doesn’t add any noticeable color to the image when shooting.

I chose the 0.9 (3-stops) as my all-purpose glass since it allows me to consistently shoot wide open in a variety of environments with my Sigma 18-35mm on my Pocket 6K. So far so good.
