Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could this hold an Alexa Mini with batteries, monitor, cage and a follow focus?

A: Yes, the VariZoom VZQUICKJIB QuickJib can hold camera builds up to 50 lb, such as a fully built ARRI ALEXA Mini when using the proper counterbalance of weight. Please note that you will need either a compatible fluid head or motorized pan and tilt head to mount a camera to the jib. These items will need to be included when determining your max weight.

Q: 2. Would this kit handle a small camera (Sony PXW-X200) and teleprompter assuming the combined weight is below stated limit. Will it be able to balance with the prompter on? Thanks!

A: We must admit not hearing about using a teleprompter on a crane before. But that is not to say it cannot work. In certain situations it may be the perfect or only solution. That being said, we have the opinion that since the Sony PXW-X200 weighs 10 lbs and the payload of the VariZoom QuickJib Kit is 50 lbs, as long as the teleprompter is less than 40 lbs, you will be good. There may be an outside chance the baseplate cannot go back far enough to balance. In that case, a longer base plate would solve the problem.

Q: 3. Can I use the befree video head directly with the window mount?

A: Yes, the Manfrotto 243 Car Window Pod in the Manfrotto Car Window Pod Mount and Micro Ball Head can accept Manfrotto Befree heads like the Manfrotto Befree Live Video Head since they interface through a 3/8"-16 screw.

Q: 4. What size tripod head works on this jib? 75mm?

A: Unfortunately, that specification is not explicitly defined by manufacturer at this time.

Q: 5. "Except for full motion control capability, the Jibstick Jr manual kit has all of the electromechanical performance of other kits." What does this mean? Does it come with the ability to pan and tilt? The line "except for full motion control" gives me the impression that pan and tilt ability are limited in some way?

A: According to VariZoom, full motion control means repeatability, being able to stop and start in the same programmed position, know where the head is, or repeat actions over and over. This kit has the same pan and tilt capability as the others, but the controller has no positional data, so it is a live manual controller only with speed and smoothing control. Also does not have built-in lens control.

Q: 6. Is a Swarovski ATM 80 spotting scope too heavy to mount onto this micro-head and window pod mount?

A: Hi,I'm using this kit with a weight of 4 kgAnd it's perfect.Amir

Q: 7. How long does it take to go from in the case to operational with this Jib? Does it come with/ have a recommended case?

A: This kit includes a Crane Case along with cases and bags for the various components included. As far as how long it will take to set up, there will certainly be some learning curve with the set up to start. I would imagine it will take a sometime once you first start using it and as you get more familiar with the product you'll be able to have it up in a matter of minutes down the line.

Q: 8. Will this work on a 100mm Miller tripod?

A: Yes the Acebil CH4 Fluid Head (100mm Ball) will fit on other 100mm tripods.

Q: 9. Can a DJI ronin 2 be mounted to this? If so, can it be mounted in an upright position? Thanks in advance.

A: Yes, the DJI Ronin 2 3-Axis Handheld/Aerial Stabilizer can mount to the VariZoom QuickJib with Extension and operate upright when using the Ronin 2 universal mount.

Q: 10. Can the motorized head be underslung? The intention is to use it pointed straight down, which doesn't work in the upright position.

A: Yes, you most certainly can mount the VariZoom VZ-MC50 Pan and Tilt Head in an underslung position.

[7 lb (3.2 kg)] This was purchased with a MC-100 remote head, which I would deem a neccesity given the length and reach of the jib. Out of the box, it is very smooth in all axes and feels solidly constructed. The included dolly and tripod are of similar quality, and the entire package goes together smoothly. One surprise, indicated in the directions, was that the jib isn't desinged to be built at the shorter length. As the pivot section has the requisite holes (but no end plate, as on the extension), I plan to try building it in the short configuration anyway. Our first shoot with the jib was liberating - we had it up and running quickly and were able to make use of it indoors and out. Instant production value! I had considered purchasing the more expensive jib from VariZoom, but am quite content with this one - an excellent value for the money. The supplied bags are nice but don't feel like they will stand up to a lot of abuse (one of the rubber feet has already detached).

[300' (91.4 m)] I agree with all of the other reviews and ratings. Extremely well made and a bargain at the price. I looked at others and nothing really comes close to the quality build with very well made brake, and boom and super smooth heavy duty pivoting base.

[130°/sec] I used this ball head on a monopod to steady my shots, seems to work very well!

[12 lb (5.4 kg)] I mounted the Elvid Micro Shoe Mount Ball Head on my 10 Elvid FieldVision 10.1 LCD Monitor, which I use it all the time for my Youtube reviews. It's a large, lightweight monitor and helps a lot to ensure I can see everything at a distance.

Now, to mount the monitor ON CAMERA, I need something as LOW profile as possible so I won't look like I'm looking slightly up from the lens as I need my eyes looking straight at my audience. And this ball mount does the job!

The Elvid Field Vision weighs exactly 19.4 oz / 550 g and I think I can load slightly heavier things on this ball head.

Very impressive!

One thing to observe is, if you are planning to mount this ball mount on a light stand, keep in mind that you will need a set of small 1/4-20 hole washers because the bottom female threads from this ball head are a tad shallow for that purpose. If you don't, you'll damage the ball mount itself since the light stands threads will reach and scuff the ball. Happened to me but it is ok because I didn't force it.

Comes also with a double sided male thread if you need to mount this ball mount head on a cheese plate of similar.

Now... This will seem like a no brainer on how to use a product like this, BUT, I have the best way to mount it so you won't risk wobble when tightening it then adding your monitor as an example...Please see the attached images I posted as they are instructional images with text in it. Mount the bottom first, the add the rest. Again, see pictures (blue background).

Very impressed with this item.

[130°/sec] I'm very impressed with the strength of this little shoe mount. The amount of weight it can handle (3.3 lbs) is very impressive, especially considering its small form factor. I mounted my Elvid FieldVision 10.1 LCD Monitor to my camera with this micro mount, and it held it in place with ease. The all-metal materials this mount is made of is top notch. It feels expensive and works like a quality product. The tilt mechanism locks well and I had no problems with my 10 inch monitor attached. Even with the monitor tilted, this mount kept it solidly in place, which is impressive. The ultralow profile design is appreciated because it keeps everything tight and compact. It also comes with a 1/4-20 grub screw so you can attach it to a camera cage instead of a shoe mount. This is a nice addition and adds to its versatility. I like that it has a rubberized base on the top mount. This helps you tighten it down securely and prevents any scratches. And having a 90 degree notch makes it easy to switch between portrait and landscape orientation quickly. The notch also adds to security and stability. I am very impressed with this micro shoe mount. The build quality is fantastic and it works perfectly for my needs. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

[7 lb (3.2 kg)] I bought this small ball head to hold some of my small speed light flashes to my stands. It allows me to have a little easier wiggel to point or aim the smaller flashes when just a little light is needed somewhere.
It has a cold shoe mount on the bottom that can be unscrewed and put onto a 1/4-20 thread. So, it gives you a choice of mounting like a hot shoe flash or on a mono pod for light compact cameras.

[130°/sec] We use this ball mount to attach our Kessler Revolution P&T head to our Kessler crane. It gives us that extra bit of flexibility in leveling the head. The 100mm ball locks solidly once you tighten the handle.
