Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work with Canon G50 or similar LANC style remote controlled cameras?

A: You most certainly will be able to use a camcorder like the G50 on this jib. However the remote included will not control the zoom on the camera. You would just need to add an additional LANC controller and extension cable for that. Varizoom Controller - https://bhpho.to/2l5fHGu Extension cable - https://bhpho.to/2Jc1iDl

Q: 2. Does this come with the weights for the crane?

A: No it does not.

Q: 3. Can a DJI ronin 2 be mounted to this? If so, can it be mounted in an upright position? Thanks in advance.

A: Yes, the DJI Ronin 2 3-Axis Handheld/Aerial Stabilizer can mount to the VariZoom QuickJib with Extension and operate upright when using the Ronin 2 universal mount.

Q: 4. Would this kit handle a small camera (Sony PXW-X200) and teleprompter assuming the combined weight is below stated limit. Will it be able to balance with the prompter on? Thanks!

A: We must admit not hearing about using a teleprompter on a crane before. But that is not to say it cannot work. In certain situations it may be the perfect or only solution. That being said, we have the opinion that since the Sony PXW-X200 weighs 10 lbs and the payload of the VariZoom QuickJib Kit is 50 lbs, as long as the teleprompter is less than 40 lbs, you will be good. There may be an outside chance the baseplate cannot go back far enough to balance. In that case, a longer base plate would solve the problem.

Q: 5. What size tripod head works on this jib? 75mm?

A: Unfortunately, that specification is not explicitly defined by manufacturer at this time.

Q: 6. How much ground (floor space) and operational space around the Jib does this need?

A: According to Varizoom the center of the included dolly to the dolly leg is 22 inches. The jib itself will go up 10 feet, you would want to have at least that much clearance around it. To be safe you may even want to be in the 15-20 foot range.

Q: 7. How long does it take to go from in the case to operational with this Jib? Does it come with/ have a recommended case?

A: This kit includes a Crane Case along with cases and bags for the various components included. As far as how long it will take to set up, there will certainly be some learning curve with the set up to start. I would imagine it will take a sometime once you first start using it and as you get more familiar with the product you'll be able to have it up in a matter of minutes down the line.

Q: 8. What is the horizontal reach of this crane?

A: 9'6" - 13'9" (2.9 - 4.2m)

Q: 9. What sort of tripod can this be mounted on? Is there a specific Varizoom product that it has to be mounted on or will it work with a general Manfrotto or Sachtler?

A: Hi I use an older manfrotto that has pins that lock the legs. Don't know the model off hand. You DO NOT want to put on any tripod with collapsible legs with legs extended. It would be a hazard. Also the tripod has a 75mm bowl that the jib base fastens to. Very sturdy once assembled. Varizoom makes a solid leg tripod/ stand for ap. $900.00 You will need a heavy duty tipod for sure. It's a lot of weight with jib, camera, hot head and counter-weights. You will be happy with this jib. Set up is very quick. I just made an extension for mine it gets powder coated in 2 weeks! Can't wait to try it. Best of luck

Q: 10. What size tripod bowl does this fit into? Standard 100mm?

A: The VZQUICKJIB QuickJib is meant to accept flat and ball tripod heads. If ball, it should be a 100mm head.

[300' (91.4 m)] This was purchased with a MC-100 remote head, which I would deem a neccesity given the length and reach of the jib. Out of the box, it is very smooth in all axes and feels solidly constructed. The included dolly and tripod are of similar quality, and the entire package goes together smoothly. One surprise, indicated in the directions, was that the jib isn't desinged to be built at the shorter length. As the pivot section has the requisite holes (but no end plate, as on the extension), I plan to try building it in the short configuration anyway. Our first shoot with the jib was liberating - we had it up and running quickly and were able to make use of it indoors and out. Instant production value! I had considered purchasing the more expensive jib from VariZoom, but am quite content with this one - an excellent value for the money. The supplied bags are nice but don't feel like they will stand up to a lot of abuse (one of the rubber feet has already detached).

[130°/sec] I purchased this time VZQUICKJIB is superior in cost performance. Were tested in ENG CAMERA, but its operation was smooth rigidity is also high Unfortunately the only one point because thinner than Japanese standard bar of the weight Processing that was necessary I'm happy with the other

[100 mm ball] This is a very well made product and well thought out as well. Every part looks precision made and fits beautifully together and breaks down easily as well. Smooth and stabile (no bounce as with cheaper jibs) this is old school and will out last the life of the owner and pass to another generation and I can't say that about many products made today. Do watch the videos available and visit the manufacturers site to see sections up close. I can tell you there are some jibs if you saw them up close you would run. Even the custom case is of very high quality with a very high quality material.

[130°/sec] We use the jib to expand the range of shots on a talk/variety show. It is well made, quick and easy to set up, and is highly portable for field use. Accessories like a 4' extension and a servo head expand its capabilities even more. This is the fourth piece of VariZoom gear we've gotten in the past 10 years, and I've always been very pleased with the durability, functionality, price, and responsive customer service.

[100 mm ball] I agree with all of the other reviews and ratings. Extremely well made and a bargain at the price. I looked at others and nothing really comes close to the quality build with very well made brake, and boom and super smooth heavy duty pivoting base.

[300' (91.4 m)] I have owned various lens controllers. My previous camera was LANC and I owned the LANC version of this Varizoom controller for it. When I moved to Sony's EX camera, there was no question I would get this Varizoom controller. Unlike other EX controllers, the VZ PG-Ex lets you control the zoom with a dial and not the rocker. This lets you have rock solid fixed speed zooms from slowest to highest speeds the camera supports. You can also modify the speed smoothing during a zoom because of the excellent ergonomics. If you don't want easy fixed speed zooms, there's the Pro-EX model that uses the rocker to control the speed. I have used both and prefer the PG-EX. Both units have excellent tactile feedback on buttons and rockers. There is an additional button that is programmed to review the previous clip. Other things that speak to the quality product is the heavy duty cord with a nice way to manage excess. And, the handle clamp design is rock solid AND does not require the wing nut to be completely removed. But, if you just want low cost, go buy other controllers. You won't appreciate this but you WILL get what you pay for with the cheap ones. The VZ PG-EX is worth every penny if production value, reliability, operational efficiency and build quality are important. The looks don't hurt either. It definitely says Pro.

[12 lb (5.4 kg)] super easy set-up and to balance. the movable weight bar is such an added bonus. allowing you to use the jib in tight spaces, and to fine-tune the balance. the need for no tools to set up is just the best. my jonyjib takes several different size wrenches and longer to set-up. I plan on getting the add on length now that I see just how fast and what a versitle jib this is. very smooth pan and tilt and love the break adjustment on it. really can't say enough. well made and very decent bag comes with it.
