The V67G HE from MXL is a cardioid, large-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for recording vocals in commercial and project studios. Compared to the original V67G, the HE (Heritage Edition) features a different finish and a variety of accessories.

The V67G HE utilizes the same transformer-coupled output and solid-state, Class-A FET circuitry as the original V67G. Its cardioid polar pattern maximizes sound rejection from the rear of the mic, providing a directional focus that reduces room reflections in the recording. Its 30 Hz - 20 kHz frequency response ensures full-range transduction of vocals in a variety of genres and styles. It features a 32mm capsule with a 6-micron, gold-sputtered diaphragm, and can handle a high maximum SPL of 130 dB. Phantom-power compliance and an XLR output make it ready for use in the studio.

The supplied shockmount decouples the mic from a stand, reducing the pickup of rumble. Also, included with the V67G HE is a metal mesh pop filter, ideal for minimizing plosives during vocal recording sessions. The provided aluminum flight case ensures the mic's safety during storage or transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How close do you have to be to the mic? How much noise does the mic isolate without additional isolation (foam, etc.)?

A: This is a condenser mic so it is very sensitive unlike a dynamic mic. If we a talking about recording a vocalist in the studio about 6 inches is the norm. If you are dealing with a pro they will already have good mic technique and the louder they sing they will step further back from the mic. The same is true in the other direction. If they want to get a more intimate sound to their voice they will move closer to the mic and sing much softer. By moving closer they will take advantage of what is called the Proximity Effect. Proximity Effect is the closer you are to the mic the more bass response you will get. The mic will not isolate anything for you. The mic will pick up things you will not be able to hear like air conditioning rumble, the singers shoes if they move around while singing etc. The most cost effective way of dealing with this is with an acoustic shield. Like the sE Electronics RF-X Reflection Filter which will stop the reflections in the room and give you a much more intimate sound to the vocal and help keep some of the air born noise in the room out of the mic B&H # SESEERFX. See attachment below.

Q: 2. Does this work on a Chromebook?

A: I contacted the manufacturer and confirmed that the Tempo SK mic is indeed compatible for use with a Chromebook.

Q: 3. Does this product come with a wire for it?

A: No, an XLR microphone cable is not included with the MXL 770.

Q: 4. Should I go for this or the MXL 990 for general studio use (vocals, instruments, ect.)?

A: Both mics will work well and specs are almost the same for the two models, but the MXL 990 is a bit more rugged and would be the better option for general studio use.

Q: 5. Is there a specific type of interface that must be purchased to work with this?

A: As the other respondents said it is an XLR connection, however not all USB interfaces can provide the phantom power that condenser microphones need. Make sure that your interface or whatever mixer you use make sure it has phantom power (48v)

Q: 6. Is it protected against accidental phantom power like the SE X1 R?

A: The MXL R144 HE Heritage Edition Ribbon Microphone is not protected against phantom power, and there is a warning in the user manual that phantom power may damage the microphone. If your equipment has a phantom power switch that is universal to multiple mic inputs, or if you want to be safe from accidental button presses, a blocker like this can protect your mic: https://bhpho.to/3L0h4CV. If you want a little bit more clean gain from the microphone, in-line preamps such as the Polsen XP-30D or the Cloudlifter CL-1 can protect the mic from phantom power while also providing you with a better level signal.

Q: 7. Should I go with this or the Studio Projects B1 for general studio use? I know I just asked a similar question a few days ago but I've narrowed it down to these 2 and need help choosing.

A: Without knowing anythigng about your projects and your needs I would lean to the MXl as an all purpose mic.

Q: 8. does it come with a stand for the mic so you don't have to hold it?

A: There is a shock mount included with the mic that will attach to any 5/8'' threaded mic stand. An actual mic stand is sold separately. Here's an option, BH #AUMS5230F.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with a MacBook ?

A: Yes it is. As a side note also the shock mount that is included doesn't fit the mic that you order. It's weird I know.

Q: 10. Is it capable of handling heavy guitar distortion?

A: Maximum Input Sound Level: 137dB

[Silver] To all my associates; I am a jazz player and singer and I have a home studio for my recording projects. After a few years with large capsule condenser microphones, 3 to be exact, I have found the ribbon microphone to be the best for my type of vocal. For the price of the MXL 144 it has a great natural sound and the highs are not rough. Just a little EQ for your personal taste. I ordered a pre amp but found I did not need it for my recording system. I run it directly into my Tascam US-1641. Eventual I will update to the more expensive models.

[Mono] I am currently in the process of converting analog tapes to digital that I recorded in the 1970s-1990s and wanted a suitable mic for a brief description of each session. This mic is perfect for this purpose as it compliments the analog sound of the recordings very well.

[Large Diaphragm] I use this for live recordings of trumpet, trumpet ensembles and brass groups. Ive used it in both live halls and in my home studio. Ribbon is the way to go for horns (and vocals of course). Very warm and complimentary to trumpets and deals very well with high SPLs. I use it with a Zoom H4-N and an M-Audio Audio Buddy. A preamp for some added gain is def needed as well as a GOOD mic cable. Tilt the mic back (or forward depending on acoustic environment) about 30 degs or so at about 8 feet back and 8 feet up in a nice hall or church. You will NOT be disappointed. Ordering a second one soon.

[Silver] Being an orchestral music composer, sound is everything and when using mics I try to not eq anything but keep the natural instrument and the microphone natural. For under 100 bucks these mics deliver a great sound on toms, vocals and nylon string guitar. That is what i have recorded so far. With this ribbon mic you do need a thick pop filter since the aluminum element is very pop sensitive, but well worth having in the collection. For vocals this mic set up with a Neuman 87 made a great pair, a bit more sizzle on the 87 and warmth and bottom with a clear mid range for the R144. I have two of these mics and will buy a another pair to try out on timpani, electric guitar cabinets, and the grand piano.I would reccomend these mics to anyone who needs a sensitive mic without spending 4k on a ribbon.Michael Schumann Smith - Composer@

[Cardioid] This is just the budget mic I was looking for to pair with a sm57 when mic'ing my guitar amp. The bass response really fattens up the recorded tone when paired with the mid forward sm57. Add an AT2020 for as a room mic for top end and ambience and you can record some pretty solid guitar tracks.

[Large Diaphragm] I picked up two of these to use as overheads for drums. I love the warm thick tone I'm able to get out of them. The price is unbeatable too considering how sturdy the build is. Highly recommend!

[Large Diaphragm] I have only had it for a week so I don't know about durability, but it is really smooth, warm, and Simon and Garfunkel sounding!!
